Ok, so here are some pictures of Tacoma, WA. I didn't take them, but they're of some of our more notable things.

Union Station, the terminus of the transcontinental railroad (now a federal courthouse):
http://truedungeonfans.com/alizee/unionstation.jpg

The Tacoma Dome, the world's largest wooden-roof dome, which also happens to be the best indoor musical venue within 1000 miles. All the big tours come here, instead of Seattle:
http://truedungeonfans.com/alizee/tacomadome.jpg

A small photo with Mount Rainier in the background explains the Tacoma Dome's paintjob:
http://truedungeonfans.com/alizee/tacomadome2.jpg

The Glass Museum, downtown - the cone is the top of the hotshop:
http://truedungeonfans.com/alizee/glassmuseum.jpg

The Tacoma Narrows Bridge, a suspension bridge a mile long, and many hundreds of feet above the water. Mount Rainier, at 14,411 feet, is in the background again.

Damm.. how can Alizee be so hot in one picture:

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/1627/alize6bz.jpg

and so un-hot in another? (Below)

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/6866/alize14gg.png

I swear, that woman is a chameleon. I've seen pix where it's obvious that it's Alizee and other pix where she doesn't look a thing like Alizee. I know her face as well as anyone but if I saw her looking like the pic directly above this paragraph, no way in hell would I believe it was her. Although I'm sure that makeup may have a little to do with it, she just keeps changing her face (her look) for some reason. Alizee... find a face and stick with it!

Blade, I like your signature! Speaking of faces (kind-of) I love those cheeks.

I agree. In fact, I can only think of one where she looks outright "bad", imo, and it was during pregnancy. I mean, I don't think she looks that different in those two pics. Just the hair. Of course she isn't always gonna be made up like a star, and has gotten older, but is still instantly recognizable from the most glamorous studio photo to the most candid paparazzi shot. One of the things I like about her.

Anyway, isn't this getting very off-topic? Better get back on track... I could post some generic pics of New York City, but everyone knows what it looks like. So here's a related post copied over from alizee-forum:

Anyone here watch the new Law and Order: Special Victims Unit this past week (Jan 9th)? It was the highest rated show Tuesday night, with 14.5 million viewers... and the funny thing is, one scene was shot across the street from me, and you can see my house in the background on the far left. The woods to the right is a small piece of property that we own as well. The yellow tape is up not for anything in the show, but because a tree had fallen there earlier that morning. Several other sequences in the episode (8x11 - Burned) were also filmed around my neighborhood in the north Bronx.

Nice sig Blade. Where did you find that pic Brett? I agree that it is sometimes hard to recognize her but certainly not in this pic.
I didn't say she was ugly in the pic just that she was un-hot. Out of the 1000's of pix I have of Alizee there are only about 4 or 5 that I don't care for. As far as her pregnant pix go, I think she looks good for a pregnant woman except for that one where she's a little pudgeball.:p I don't hate it but I don't like it either, but hey.. she's pregnant, what do you expect. But I saw one pic where she is pregnant that I think she looks extremely naturally beautiful. She had no babe make-up on but wow.. she's so very beautiful! Again, the changing face of Alizee.

To answer aditya's question.. Where did I find that pic? It's posted earlier in this thread. I just linked to it.

Now... continuing back to the subject of this thread...

Sorry son, where I come from it's not a mountain unless it's covered in snow... permanently. That's not a mountain; that's a hill (and from the looks of it, a pretty small one at that:p).

Now there's a mountain:D:

I didn't know about the movie, so I made some research...the beard is from 2002, and the movie you said is from 1994. And by the poster I saw, he has a very short beard there compared to this long one from 2002. I think that the beard was more of a change of look, not to make a movie. Hope it doesn't sound like if I was a smartass.

No prob, and thanks for the input. He does grow a longer beard in that movie that's not on the poster, though.

Anyway, your research made me want to do my own, and the beard was actually grown for the movie "The Fountain" which was supposed to be made in 2002, but then he dropped out to play in "Troy." "The Fountain" was finally made a few years later, but with Hugh Jackman instead.

"Looks like Brad Pitt spent all those months growing that long, scruffy beard for nothing. Variety reports that he's dropped out of the starring role in ''The Fountain,'' the sci-fi saga for which he grew the shaggy whiskers."

Right, here's a post about my local state and city. It's a long one, so I appreciate anyone who reads through the whole thing :hatsoff:

You all know about Australia I'm sure. The Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Great barrier Reef etc. so I'll make things more specific.

I've spent my whole life (so far) in the one house, in the regional city of Launceston in the North of Tasmania.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/proxy/aklELLtWFdHQ757kv1EkxLnZ3pp0AXmU2zTPMFOUhB7P5Mur_V tC2Few-HBj6wnbOph992BcjUPtU0j_Hl8KejTerqCGqBGkE4X2Wu7J5Lt MPi3zIC0kA0Y

The City's home to ~100,000 people, and acts as the regional centre for the North of the state, the State Capital is Hobart in the south (~250,000 people).
Launceston is situated right where two smaller rivers meet to create the Tamar river, which is more of an estuary. Anyway, I won't bore you guys with the geography of the place unless you want to hear more about it, if so let me know!

This picture below is an example of a view from the suburb I live in that's on the North-west end of the city, which overlooks the Tamar river and Tamar island, a relaxing walking trail. You can also see some of the local sport fields, and the sole school I've attended since 2007 is there too, though a bit hard to see from this view. So plenty of memories associated with what can be seen from here, most of which is within a 15-20 minute walk.
https://i3.au.reastatic.net/1051x811/4ebe4f6078e620c1bc745c0c0a10312470f7bed12f2443127c df81010a7d3e5e/image3.jpg

In terms of other things to see in and around Launceston...

There's Penny Royal, which is sort of an adventure site with a restaurant, inn, boat ride and other activities. Some of the buildings are made of bricks that were found and relocated from another site in Tassie, and the whole thing is built in an old quarry quite close to the city.
https://r-cf.bstatic.com/images/hotel/max1024x768/211/211321886.jpg

UTAS Stadium is the main place for sport, mainly hosting Aussie Rules Football and Cricket. It's not the greatest stadium ever but I enjoy going there when I have the chance.
https://static.wixstatic.com/media/ebc837_b193eb4bbe9d46139667a8e902ff94aef000.jpg/v1/fill/w_640,h_322,al_c,q_80,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01/ebc837_b193eb4bbe9d46139667a8e902ff94aef000.webp

Up one of the two smaller rivers I mentioned, just a short walk from the city is the Cataract George Basin. There's a chairlift, pool, walking trails, peacocks, food and more to discover. It's recently had some landscaping done so it looks slightly different now.
https://edge.alluremedia.com.au/uploads/businessinsider/2016/06/gorge-summer.jpg

Just make sure you don't plan to go if it's been flooding. The amount of water that comes down is insane! This is from the 2016 floods, largest in my lifetime here, school was cancelled for at least one day that week due to the floods.
https://edge.alluremedia.com.au/uploads/businessinsider/2016/06/gorge-now.jpg

Here's a view overlooking the city centre and some surrounding suburbs:
https://www.launceston.tas.gov.au/files/assets/public/planning-amp-building/city-of-launceston_1.png

I could be here all day, but here's one last thing about Launceston. In the City's open mall, there used to be a small books shop named Birchalls. You could buy books (duh) but also gifts, collectables, art tools, toys and what I would usually be most interested in, the Lego sets.
https://nnimgt-a.akamaihd.net/transform/v1/crop/frm/CxbpjMPM5L8ygs6kmC4Rey/d9465953-3353-4772-9127-27bd877e23d4.jpg/r0_201_6016_3704_w1200_h678_fmax.jpg

It was probably my favourite shop in the City, always busy but never overcrowded, and an iconic part of the Brisbane Street Mall. Unfortunately, the store shut down about three years ago after being open since 1844, which I believe made it the oldest running book store in the country until it closed :(
Just doesn't feel the same walking through the City when I can't have a peep at what's new in the store, they even held Lego building competitions where people would make models of things in Launceston and potentially win a prize. I can't find a picture of my entry right now, it was of a clock tower, anyway, onto the next thing...

Just outside of Launceston is a town named Lilydale. In hindsight they missed out on a great opportunity to call it Lillytown instead, maybe I should contact the council and ask for it to be changed, because, uh..."reasons' :giggle:
Anyway, just outside of that town is Bridestow Lavender farm, I'll let this image speak for itself...

There's way too much stuff to cover about Tasmania, so I'll just point out some of the most notable ones, all of which I've been to.

The most postcarded (is that a word?) place would probably be Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake. A fantastic walk around the lake, it's a taste of the mountainous climate and forests in the state.
https://vivid.travel/media/11374/dove-lake-in-cradle-mountain-lake-st-clair-national-park-tasmania-australia_1238014495.jpg

Here's Freycinet National Park and Wineglass Bay on the east coast:

This is a view of the Capital Hobart from Mount Wellington.

Towards the left you can see the Tasman Bridge, which actually partially collapsed in 1975 after a ship collided with one of it's pylons, but it's fixed now.
https://www.abc.net.au/cm/rimage/5782082-3x2-xlarge.jpg?v=2

And there's the Stanley Nut on the north coast, situated next to the historic town
https://s1.at.atcdn.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/099.-The-Nut-Stanley-Tourism-Tasmania-and-Scott-Sporleder.jpg

I've got it mentioned on my profile that Tasmania is the 'Corsica of Australia'. To further elaborate on it, both are islands off the south-east coast of the mainland, known for their natural beauty, mountainous landscape, and local cuisine. I assume the wine in Corsica has a good reputation, it certainly does in Tasmania, though I'm not an expert on that.
I mean, tell me there isn't atleast some resemblance between these two pictures:
https://3.cdnpt.com/Destinations/438/438/ajaccio-1778292770-L.jpg
https://img.delicious.com.au/abkPTuT4/del/2017/08/hobart-tasmania-50612-2.jpg

To end out on some other things I love about the state. The Winter months are amazing, the rain, snow, frost, basically anything except wind I'm a sucker for. And when combining that with all the small inland historic towns, rivers, lakes, walking trails, and mountains always surrounding you, it's brilliant! The West Coast of the state is very low populated and is just complete natural beauty with a few small towns sprinkled in, all with their own unique character, such as Queenstown:
https://www.abc.net.au/cm/rimage/8376494-3x2-xlarge.jpg?v=2

Those are really beautiful pictures of a beautiful place. It must be nice to be able to live somewhere that most would consider a dream vacation to visit. ;)

That lavender farm in really impressive. I have four lavender plants in my vegetable garden to attract bees, and at any time of the day many bees are on it or around it pollinating the garden. If there is a heaven for bees, I'm pretty sure it would look something like that picture. :)

How popular is cricket there? I associate the game more with India for some reason. It has similarities to baseball. Most people find baseball too slow and boring, but I am a big fan of the sport.

You had mentioned "local cuisine". Are there any foods or styles of cuisine that makes Tasmania unique?

Thanks for the response Cowboy!
As for Cricket, it's the joint most popular sport in the country alongside Aussie Rules Football, they're both played on a large round oval so most of our big stadiums are shaped as so, most famous of which being the MCG. The biggest, most historic, most iconic and greatest sports venue in the country which I've been lucky to go inside
https://www.austadiums.com/news/images/MCG-1.jpg

As you mentioned, India is the biggest cricketing nation in the world, there's about a dozen countries that play cricket seriously at the top level, most of which are former British colonies.
In terms of the pace of the game I believe it is very similar to baseball. Someone throws the ball, another tries to hit it, rinse and repeat hundreds of times for however many hours or days. Too many rules of course to explain here and now about Cricket, as there would be about baseball I'm sure :p

I do have a bit of a soft spot for baseball though, mainly because I'm a stadium fanatic and some of the ballparks over in the US are incredible! Off the top of my head, Yankee stadium, Wrigley field, Fenway park and Dodger Stadium all come to mind. There's a documentary on YouTube about their history somewhere that I found very engaging. The history, design, and character of many of these grounds is fascinating, and I'm sure it's amazing to experience up close! If I were to go to a sports event in America, it would probably be Baseball, or maybe an MLS game as that's the only sport of yours I'm overly familiar with so I'd know what's actually going on to begin with :))

You had mentioned "local cuisine". Are there any foods or styles of cuisine that makes Tasmania unique?

To be honest I'm not really a food buff but I could name a few things. My Mother would go on and on about all the nice food we have here as she so often says, so most of my knowledge is based on what other people say, but I'll try my best based on what I remember.

We have a pretty good Wine scene, there's some vineyards right here in the Tamar valley in fact, though I can't drink it so couldn't tell you from experience.
The state used to be known as the Apple Isle, and we still do grow plenty of fruit so there's that, but it's nothing special really. There used to be (might still be) a Cadbury chocolate factory in Hobart that's quite well known, not that a Cadbury chocolate bar would be considered 'local cuisine' but there are some good places make their own chocolate.
Seafood is another big one, from what I remember Oysters and Rock Lobsters are among what can be offered. Cheese I think is another one but again I'm not an expert on that sort of thing.
Sorry that wasn't much or very specific, I don't really have a particular interest in this sort of thing so you'd have to ask someone who's more keen on it to get a full answer.
Thanks for the question though, the engagement is greatly appreciated :)

It's truly a beautiful place. My older brother went to Australia when he was on leave in the military. My other brother went there twice on vacation and loved it. I'd go there in a heartbeat except that long flight time is very intimidating, especially for someone who isn't a spring chicken anymore.

I do have a bit of a soft spot for baseball though, mainly because I'm a stadium fanatic and some of the ballparks over in the US are incredible! Off the top of my head, Yankee stadium, Wrigley field, Fenway park and Dodger Stadium all come to mind.

Six years ago I made it part of my bucket list to visit all 30 baseball parks. So far I have gone to 18 of them. I live in central Ohio, so quite a few ballparks are within a day's drive. When I go visit one, I like to stay a few days in a hotel in the heart of the city to experience the city. We would mainly walk everywhere, but would Uber places if they are too far to walk.

I like to rate my ballpark experiences. Some cities are "baseball cities" where the crowd is very much engaged in the game and the stadiums draw large amounts of people. Having a beer and a hot dog is pretty much a baseball tradition. Each region of the country has their own unique selection of beer and the hot dogs can vary by region as well.

So far, the best time I have had was a Friday afternoon game at Wrigley Field. The stadium was sold out like it is most games. The Cubs fans are pretty die hard. I normally like to buy seats as close to home plate as affordable, but for Wrigley Field I bought tickets for the bleachers behind the center field wall. They call them "bleacher creatures" out there and found out why. It turned out to be one big party. :p Chicago is actually quite a fantastic city with so much to do, and for the most part the people are friendly. The metro area is huge and the south side has always been considered dangerous. Now the city is extremely dangerous. To give an example, this last Father's Day weekend, there were 104 shootings in the city. :fear: It's mainly drug related.

The first runner up is Fenway Park. Boston loves their Red Sox and the city is pretty fantastic. They have preserved a lot of historical buildings and you can walk down cobblestone roads like they did when the country was founded.

Those would be my two top picks. Yankee stadium is yet to come, but seats there are very expensive compared to the other parks. Dodger stadium will require more planning because while I am out in LA, I might as well catch an Angels game in Anaheim and take a road trip to San Diego to catch the Padres.

Sorry that wasn't much or very specific, I don't really have a particular interest in this sort of thing so you'd have to ask someone who's more keen on it to get a full answer.
Thanks for the question though, the engagement is greatly appreciated :)

That's OK. Maybe the question was too broad. Do you have many pizza joints there and what kind of toppings are the favorites? I'm pretty sure the love for pizza is universal! ;)

Fenway Park can’t be beat, in my opinion! It’s a terrific stadium in a wonderful town.

Edit:

Do you know if that's available on a service like Netflix? Haven't seen it but Sam Neill is a familiar face in the cast so might have to check it out.

“The Hunter” does not seem to be available on Netflix right now, but I think you can get it streaming on Amazon Prime. I see it available there to rent for $3.99 US.

Right, here's a post about my local state and city.

These places are beautiful.
I had never seen anything like that lavender farm. It doesn't even seem real. :O
Thank you for sharing! :D

I'll have a look but there may be regional restrictions, thanks for the tip!

It was a good question, I'm just not really the one to ask, anyone in my direct family would give a better answer probably. In terms of Pizza, hmm...it's not really a staple here, there's a few small businesses doing it outside of the nation-wide chains but to be honest I couldn't tell you much. There's a small place called WiseGuise in my suburb that's pretty good though I couldn't tell you anything more specific.

You live in a beautiful place. I often watch documentaries about various places in the world so it’s a real pleasure to discover something new. I really don’t know anything about Tasmania so I’m pleasantly surprised at how beautiful it looks. Thanks for sharing!

It's truly a beautiful place. My older brother went to Australia when he was on leave in the military. My other brother went there twice on vacation and loved it. I'd go there in a heartbeat except that long flight time is very intimidating, especially for someone who isn't a spring chicken anymore.

Cheers everyone for the responses! Whilst I'm replying to all of you I'll put up some more pictures of places I've been to or near, and tell a strange experience I had in one of these places for anyone curious...;)

Here's some more of the Lavender farm

They also offer Lavender flavoured ice-cream and sell these small Lavender coloured teddy bears. They're a bit expensive but are very popular with tourists.

You do have to plan a visit there well though, the plants are only blooming as such for a few months and it can get very busy. So if you want to get some good photos without any disturbance you'll have to go at a well thought out time of day.

Not sure how I forgot this on my first post, but there's also a historic site in the south of the state known as Port Arthur.
https://media-exp1.licdn.com/dms/image/C4D1BAQGSlRn1S0jKQQ/company-background_10000/0?e=2159024400&v=beta&t=SCOSnKoz13EA1Vq6hnuen1LlHZHL0YmZaC_3V26Ayd8

It's an old convict settlement, though there's heaps more to check out there as well. I went there on a school camp about 5 years back, I have a picture of it on my Instagram which I'll put up later, can't do so right now on School Wifi.
Unfortunately if you are familiar with this place already it may be for the wrong reasons. There was a mass-shooting at one of the cafe's on the site a few decades back that I believe remains the largest of it's kind in the country's history. I don't want to go on about it in too much detail, I know that it had a big impact on gun laws here.

Anyway, onto something a bit more upbeat...

On the West Coast is the Gordon river which you can take a cruise on.
https://media.tacdn.com/media/attractions-splice-spp-674x446/06/71/45/69.jpg

There's the Bruny Island Neck which is like an isthmus in the middle of the island on the south-east coast.

And an example of the Tarkine forest in the state's west
https://development.savethetarkine.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Arthur-River-rainforests-Ted-Mead.jpg

Now, this is an interesting one, and one of the more under-rated spots even for people who live here.
https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/15/1b/ad/84/settlement-of-darlington.jpg

It's Maria Island, on the south-east coast, a bit smaller than Bruny Island. It has a fascinating history, I can't remember the exact details but from what I recall it was first used by settlers for Whaling, then as a convict settlement, then a Limestone quarry, then a cement producer I think, and now a conservation site as well as tourist destination.

Here's a picture of what the factory used to look like
https://stors.tas.gov.au/fetch/PH30-1-6983

And a picture from the point Bishop and Clerk, at the top of the island. When I was up there I sat on the edge of part of the cliff (just off camera here) which was apparently "dangerous" :p  In hindsight it was a bit risky but fun none the less!

There's also the 'painted cliffs' on the island

When I was on Maria Island it was on a school camp last year. Everyone had to bring their own food, tents etc. One group unsuccessfully tried to prevent a Tassie Devil from breaking into their food at night :giggle:

On the second-last day of the trip something rather bizarre happened. The teachers had organised a game of capture the flag, an absolute classic, which was made interesting with the geography of the playing surface. I get very passionate about these sort of games when playing them and ended up grazing my elbow when trying to free the jail, and I believe that left a scar which is still there.
Anyway, at one point in the game a teacher on the opposition team was running out of our half with one of our flags, one of my teammates and I then both race towards him from either side to try and capture him before escaping, but he gets past us, and then...BAM.
I collide heads with this girl and it momentarily knocks me out. Some of my mates described the loud 'bonk' sound made on the collision, though of course I wasn't able to remember it as I'd had a concussion. The girl wasn't affected as bad, I think she spent the rest of the night a bit grumpy with a headache and minor symptoms, but I'd just lost it completely
I spent the rest of the night sat down in a state of confusion, asking the same questions over and over again, if you've had a similar experience you'll know what I'm talking about, there's probably a more technical term for it.
I can't vividly remember anything after or directly before the knock that night. So when I woke up in the tent in the morning it all sort of felt like a dream, so I asked my friend if what had happened was legit, it was a strange experience.
Luckily there was medical assistance and people to make sure I didn't do anything too stupid in this state of confusion. It had happened to me before when falling off a swing as well.
Anyway, it was a great trip with bush-walking, learning about the history of the island, climbing up the mountain, running around at night admittedly annoying people in their tents who were trying to sleep :giggle: But that head knock just makes the whole memory of it feel surreal.

Another long post, cheers everyone for taking the time to read the first one, I hope this reply is equally interesting :)

On the topic of this thread, if you went on the front page of reddit today you may have seen this:

The post title:
This magical little tarn only appears after extended rainfall and melting of snow. The last time it appeared before now was in 2018. The vibrant colour of the water is said to be caused by the sediments from the rocks below. Tasmania, Australia. 3815x5576 (OC)

This is something I hadn't seen before, supposedly quite a rare thing. That shade of blue though.....incredible :)(:

Whilst on the topic, In case you guys missed it because it kinda got buried amongst the conversation, I made a reply the other day showing some more pictures of the state if you're curious to have a look and perhaps didn't see it:

I've been there. Not playing capture the flag, but football (American). The opposing team's running back lowered his helmet right before colliding with me at full speed. Caught me right on the crown of my head. Luckily we had helmets, but this was 40 years ago and the construction of them was not the same as today. I saw stars, similar to what you might see in a cartoon, then lost consciousness for a few moments and my teammates were standing around me asking if I was OK, then helped me up.

The safety aspect of the game has changed for the better. If that happened today, I would be taken out of the game immediately and undergo concussion testing. The running back would be penalized for "targeting" and thrown out the game. But that is now, and this was 40 years ago. So nothing happened. No penalties, and I just sucked it up and played the rest of the game. I am certain I sustained a concussion, and it sounds like you did too.

Sounds rough, luckily safety has improved but from what I've heard concussions are still a problem, and former players who've grown old can be in big danger of developing things such as Dementia at an earlier age than others.
In Australia we also developed our own version of football, Aussie Rules Football, and it is a very physical game. I'll just call it AFL for now as that's the name of the main league, basically the same as how you may sometimes refer to your sport as 'NFL' though that's not technically its name.
Anyway, the sport has its own very unique rules I won't go over now, but in terms of the physical aspect of the game, well I'll just leave this video here if you're curious:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPIQ7vLJYIA

Luckily this is a reel of the worst hits rather than exactly what happens every single game, it's in an incredibly physically demanding sport. The overall stamina of the players is unreal, you need to be really good with basically every aspect of athleticism; running, jumping, throwing, kicking, tackling, all parts of the game.
The sport if huge here, has been around for about 150 years, packs out the MCG (100,000 capacity) for the final every season, has the 5th highest average attendance of any sport league on the planet, you get the idea.

Yeah not the greatest looking ground.
Though I will say fans on the subcontinent generally create much more lively atmospheres at games, the culture we have in Australia surrounding the spectating of cricket is much more relaxed, which brings its own charm, but sometimes I think I'd prefer the noise and ruckus.

What about that new Sardar Patel stadium? I believe it's overtaken the MCG as the largest cricket stadium in the world. Looking at pictures and videos of it, the structure is massive, though maybe the size of the ground itself makes it look a bit bigger, still a huge stadium regardless. I think I heard of some controversy behind it's construction, could be remembering that wrong.
Have you been to visit the ground?

I have never been to Ahmedabad. I go to stadium to watch IPL every year. I have seen lot of matches (IPL, World T20 2016, one test match) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, amazing experience during my 4 years (2012-2016) stay there. I went to Bangalore and watched one IPL match there. IPL matches and Ind-Aus ODI match at Hyderabad where I have been living since 2016. Few domestic FC matches at Ranchi (my hometown) and one Champions trophy 2017 match at Edgbaston England, where I went as journalist. I am not a jurnoulist, but got invitation for that match.

MCG is one the places I want to watch cricket match. Stadium at Ranchi looks beautiful.

Dharmsala, Lords are other ones where I have to go sometime.

I had completely missed your post here. It was the day I left on vacation for a week.

I am familiar with AFL, but not enough to know the rules of the game. I have seen some video highlights like the one you posted out of curiosity. My first impression was that you must be ready, willing and able to sacrifice your body for that ball! :fear: No protective gear. Just like people who watch NASCAR races for the possibility of an impressive car crash, the crowd watching the AFL matches are waiting for the next crash of bodies. ;)

One thing that is obvious of the players is that unlike American football players, it looks advantageous to be quick and lean with the ability to jump well.

The stamina of the players is incredible. It's a bit unfortunate that we're the only country who plays it, if it were as popular world wide as some other sports who knows what the best athletes from around the globe could accomplish :13:

It's a very hard sport to play casually though. People generally just enjoy kicking the ball to back and forth to each other, maybe shooting at goals, getting a game organised is usually too impractical.

One popular mini-game people play is called 'Markers up', basically one person kicks the ball into a group of people who try and be the one to catch (mark) it. If you catch it on the full you become the person kicking it into the group, pretty simple game. It's fun trying to predict where the ball will be kicked and running towards it, or grappling with other participants to catch it, the taller people playing generally do quite well for obvious reasons, but even for someone on the shorter side like myself it's still fun to play. Maybe there's an American equivalent of the game with an NFL ball?
