I know we are from all over, I am talking about artists who sing primarily in a language you do not understand. we al speak English here so I am not really talking about British, Australian, or American singers. You don't have to like them like we all like Alizée either. Just name some other cool artists that most of us probably do not know so we can expand our horizons further.

I am fond of a couple Korean goups from when i lived there (rcs may know some of them).

1. S.E.S - I do not know if they are still around but it is a female pop trio. Some very good voices and good beats to their music. Click here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nl8CCgN3QU&mode=related&search=)

2. Jaorimm - Korean rock band with female vocalist. I like them very mcuh and saw them in concert in 2003. They are not particularly famous even in Korea as rock is not very popular over there (or wasn't I've been away for almost 2 years now). Sorry, no link at this time.

3. Lee Jung Hyun - Very talented femal singer I have all her albums. She really performs live, costume and very artistic dancing. Her voice is almost scratchy (which I like sometimes) and her music is usually slightly angry. Her first albm was very techno-like but she has evolved to feature almost Spanish music on her 5th album. Yes, she has a microphone on her finger. I like Roine Stolt, a great guitar player from Sweden. His band is called the Flower Kings.

As far as foreign artists are concerned, I like a lot of Shakira's (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=shakira&search=Search) Spanish stuff, and I actually just stumbled across Najoua Belyzel (http://www.najouabelyzel.com/), who seems great, through a link someone posted here yesterday actually :)

LOL that video of Lee Jung Hyun reminded me of Dr. Evil because of the way she was holding the mic to her mouth xD.

Just chatting with my Korean friend. Update: SES no longer exists, one of the girls is solo now, another is now an actress, and the 3rd is AWOL. Jaorim is still around, the female lead singer is recently married to a VJ. Lee Jung Hyun is still putting out stuffbut has apparenty put on some weight.

For all you Anime nerds: Origa, she sings the intro to Ghost in the Shell (both gigs) Mostly sings in Russian, but has a few in Japaneese and I think 3 in english.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Origa

Also, another russian group: t.A.T.u though most of their songs are in english, their accents are beautiful. Funny side note, I first saw/heard them on MTV while in France (strausburg... think that's spelt right)

Hope you enjoy.

Laura Pausini (Italian)

Probably many guys knew her already. Her voice is amazing!
I love Scrivimi, Cinque Giorni, La Solitudine, Incancellabile... just many many of them.

and, Juanes (Columbian)

I believe Juanes is very famous already. But I have to name him, because he is really great... If you don't know him yet, try these: Para Tu Amor, Lo Que Me Gusta A Mí...

I believe those songs of both singers are easy to find in YouTube~ Hope it pleases you!

Laura Pausini (Italian)

Probably many guys knew her already. Her voice is amazing!
I love Scrivimi, Cinque Giorni, La Solitudine, Incancellabile... just many many of them.

Indeed, she's amazing artist ! She's without doubt in top 3 of all the singers ! (the other two being Alizée and Natasha)

So, yes... My second favorite is Natasha St-Pier. Here's clip of her concert in Paris. Slow and very beautiful song (notice the silence, not a voice is made by audience during this song ! Everyone just shut up and concentrate to listen to it. Amazing moment as is... ). Recorded by me, of course. :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNkUs6hUF2A

Her voice is simply amazing... The record doesn't do justice for her, you have to hear it live !! I have been to 4 concerts of her and in and everyone of them were amazing. Her control of voice is so perfect.

And she's funny, too. :)

And she has soft hand, it was pleasure to hold it. :p

And like said, Laura Pausini takes the third place. :) I hope I will get to hear her, too, in concert someday. She's excellent performer, too, and I love her live DVDs.

Laura live in Le Zénith, Paris:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lE2jUcF1uuk

Again, the crappy youtube video doesn't do justice for her voice. :)

But of course there's many others I do like too. Most are French currently, since Lili made me to fall into French music scene. But there's some Italian artist, too. Other favorites I could mention are Pascal Obispo which I kinda found through Natasha. Lara Fabian is also one of my all time favorites. Not to forget Jérémy, which music I just love. He may not be the most perfect singer, but his music is simple great. And I don't mind his voice either, even if it's not so perfect. It kinda fits to his songs.

And many others. :)

Many of the 'foreign language' type of singers that I've come to appreciate, though I'am striving to utilize the songs to help me to learn the languages they're singing in, would be:

Eva Amaral of Amaral, a Spanish singer is very impressive; along with Soraya Arnelas and Shakira.
Gergana, a Bulgarian singer amongst many many others; like Rosava.
Chimene Badi and Najoua Belyzel; along with Tina Arena and Isabelle Boulay.
Sheila Chandra from India.
Ishtar, the voice of Alabina; a couple Turkish singers like Sebnem Ferah, Sertab Erener and Zezem Aksu.
Ofra Haza from Israel.
Eleftheria Arvanitaki, a Greek singer.
Sevara Nazarkhan.
Ani Lorak and Ruslana from the Ukraine.
Jane Birkin/Serge Gainsbourg.
Enya and Loreena McKennitt, as in some are in an old Scottish-Gaelic and/or Keltic language, if not mistaken.
Vicki Carr is probably one of the best singers I've ever heard; she sings a lot of Spanish so that is why she is listed here.
Christine Guldbrandsen of Norway.
From the Far East there would be Boa, Lee Jung Hyun, Ayumi Hamasaki (Ayu) and Hikaru Utada (Hikki).
Also like Nawal Al-Zoughbi.

I need to really update my CD and DVD collection. Probably the favorites from the above list would be Amaral, Ruslana, Sebnem Ferah and Chimene Badi in my level of appreciation along with Alizee.

yeah... if u like Nelly Furtado , there is a compilation series you should check out called "Euro Club Hits" --

it's pretty clear that dance music is coming back around the world -- just check the recent big American hip-hop and R&B

hits which are clear rip-offs of the european dance style.....

here's the direct iTunes link to the "Euro Club Hits" series.....
