you know the old story they nail into our heads as little kids that we should not give out our personal information online because the worst of the worst varmints are out there looking for u  but i am curious to know if any of you have had problems with online safety after giving out your picture, real name, or whatever. i am contemplating whether to give out my picture and name like some of you have on alizeeforum, here and the alliance. :)

thanks for your feedback.

Well I've only posted pictures of myself on this forum, but I haven't had any problem with that, or posting my name.

I'm not sure if I would post my name....in this day and age with a name you can pretty much find anything, once you have a full name its quite simple to go about getting an address, phone number, even criminal records! But a picture? I think you'd be ok...

Then again, this is coming from a guy who still puts in a false DOB when I register for forums! :D

It`s not so bad. I don`t think that your name or DOB would be very usefull for someone. What would someone do with that info? Only thing that i could imagine is putting a curse on you.. Another thing if you post in public places something really specific like home address, mobile phone number, personal info(like diary), access codes to your bank account and so on..just don`t give too much info in places where it isn`t needed and it would be ok.(:

Why would it be any unsafer than giving them out in outside internet ?

My name, phone number, address, photos and everything has been on the net 15 years.

So far I have not been murdered or anything else. But then again, anyone could get those from other medias, too...

I never have....given out my real name or picture, or whatever. However, even without doing it overt, you can easily get roped in via other channels. I became well known by one of my other pseudonyms in a forum where I eventually was selected by a company to help write rules, which resulted in my becoming somewhat famous (in the forum). When the rules were published, my contribution was acknowledged along with my forum "handle". I also participated in conventions with my nametag reflecting my online name.

Although I use different pseudonyms for each forum, someone who really wanted to find me out could probably do so if they so desired.

I'm guessing a large majority of the pervs and crazies go for the easy pickings, so my basic rule is to not make it easy if I don't have to.

Well, if she really wanted to know, she just use Whois.net and get all your info! ;)

My step-daughter had a problem with a guy in Florida about 7 years ago. Got her name, address, phone # - tried to pose as a 15 yr. old - Secret Service and Florida investigators got him. We thought we might have gotten called to testify, but never did.

We found out later he was 68 yrs. old, and ended up pulling down a 15 yr. sentence for e-mailing porn to kids.

Having said all that, i would post my pic here, but not any other ID'ing data that i didn't have to.

I don't have any problems with putting my name and picture on the internet, or the fact that i live in washington. Am I going to post my address here? No. I want the stalker to at least have the smarts to find out where exactly I am, even though it's not hard to find me. I just want to make sure I rid the world of somebody who is actually a threat to others. If they ever do get bright enough to find me, that is.

I try not to give any clues. It's just something I have always done.
