I finished these two signatures this afternoon. The first one was for a competition and I made the second one because a friend suggested that I make one of her in that outfit. After I finished the second one I decided to get some input from as many people as I could so that I could decide whether to enter the blue one in the competition or enter the black and white one. Since I can't choose my favourite, I'll probably enter one signature and start sporting the other.

I made this thread to get your input and because I wanted a better place to post signatures than in the Alizee Defined thread. If any of you have signatures to show, I would love to see them.

I remembered that I don't have to choose which signature to enter. The competitions that I enter in are from Socom3.com. Socom 3 is a first-person shooter that I play on Playstation 2. Socom3.com has a number of people who like to make signatures on a regular basis so there is a section for graphics challenges. There is a weekly competition called Sig of the Week (SOTW) and there are often other challenges made with rules and themes that are decided upon by whoever makes the challenge. I made the blue signature for one of those separate challenges that had a 'girls' theme. I forgot about the SOTW, which is why I was asking which signature to enter. I'll enter one signature in the SOTW and one in the girls themed competition (this competition has two other entries. SOTW has seven other entries right now and more will likely enter soon) and one in the SOTW. I haven't seen the other entries for the girls competition, but I have seen the seven other entries for SOTW. While I really like both of my signatures, I doubt that I'll get more than a few votes (votes will be cast all day Saturday and Sunday with the winner chosen Sunday night). I haven't seen the signatures that I'll be competing against in the girls challenge, but I feel more confident of a victory in this competition. I'm using the blue one for this competition and I think that it's the better of the two. Either opponent could have a very good signature, but I expect to get my share of the votes regardless of how they do. Voting for this competition starts tomorrow night, but voting continues until one signature has seven votes so there might not be a winner for a while. I'll let you all know how I place.

I'm making a wallpaper now because I convinced someone to let me make one for him. I'll post it when I finish.

I won the first challenge five votes to three and you can see it here (http://socom3.com/showthread.php?t=52699) if you're interested. Voting for the second challenge begins this morning and ends tomorrow night. I don't have any new pictures to show you, but I might make one by the time I post the results in my other challenge. Most of the people on socom3.com told me that they liked the black and white signature more than the blue one, but there are more signatures in this challenge (see here (http://socom3.com/showthread.php?t=52590)) so I don't expect another victory.

In the first link, Zero2000 says that if he loses the challenge he would never post in the graphics section of socom3.com again. I plan on holding him to that if I can. :p

I don't have any other pictures to show you right now, but I'll try and make one to show off when I post the results of the second challenge. I have a picture of Alizee ready to go so all that I need to do is spend a bit of time on Photoshop and I'll have another signature.

I got the Alizée Army logo to look nice so here it is even if it's not a signature. I think that I'll try to incorporate it into my future Alizée signatures. I modeled it after a Kiss Army logo that I saw. I tried to make it resemble this (http://www.indstate.edu/iq/Geek_Issue/Images/Kiss-army.jpg) Kiss Army logo as well but it looks much better without the shield that I made (see the shield version here (http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/9307/alizeearmyjk2.jpg). I like the lines on the shield but not the shield itself).

I finished another Alizée sig a few days ago. I had spent ages working on it but the going was slow because it took a long time to get it to look as good as it does now. As it is, I still wouldn't call it finished because I think that it needs something more. I'm going to get a start on another Alizée signature or two today but I doubt that I'll finish any time real soon.

Oo, that's awesome. The other day my clan got a war and the other clan wanted a friend to play with them. I had just found out that HibyPrime has Socom 3 so I got him to war with us. My clan mates were surprised when I brought one Alizée fan, but I couldn't imagine what they'd think if I found another to play with us. :p

I didn't have anything to do tonight and I was going to make another signature but I never decided on a picture to use. If anyone suggests a picture I'll see about making a signature with it in the next couple of days. Tomorrow is potentially a busy day for me because I have some things to take care of, but I still have a week until I need to worry about school work.

It's the first one that I put my name on because normally I think that it makes the signature look worse, but in this case I don't think that there is a big difference.

Mibir asked for one so I should have another sig to post tomorrow too.

I don't like how plain the background is, but every time I tried to spruce it up it ended up looking worse because the filters would affect the dark blue thingy more than the light blue area so I figured that it was time to give up. I altered the text by making it vertical and curved so now the background doesn't look quite as sparse.

The text is from the tagline of the 1962 version of Lolita, which is "How did they ever make a movie of Lolita?"
I made the signature for another battle on video-game-forums.com. The head of the little graphics staff there asked for a win to put him at the top of the graphics battles ladder and I answered the call. I entered the .png version in the battle because I thought that the transparency was kinda cool.
I don't expect to win because Unwritten Law, my opponent, always makes really cool signatures.
I was talking to the guy on AIM, though, and he said that we should do an Alizée-themed battle sometime and I'm excited for that.

Looks like I'm losing the competition. It's 5 votes to 2 for the other guy and most of his votes are based on the fact that his signature has cleavage and mine doesn't. I'm a little bit disappointed by that but they're allowed to vote for whichever reasons they want so it's not a big deal.

More importantly, lucky me got challenged to another competition. This guy also wanted to do an Alizée themed competition with me. For a picture I had wanted to do Alizée in the yellow outfit from the concerts but I'm going to make several signatures and choose the best one to enter. I'll post what I have from the first one.

I'll do work on the background to make it more interesting and less flat-looking but I like how it is going so far. I made the text myself with a calligraphic brush. I was fooling around when I wrote it, but I think that it looks very good so I kept it. I have the other signatures (four of them) ready to be started on and I'll be working on all of them over the next couple of days.

To help me pick the best one to enter, I'd like as much input as you can offer. Tell me what parts of the signature you like, which parts you dislike, and what you think that I should change if you can as I would appreciate it greatly.

Edit: Made most of another one. My comments are much the same: like how the background is going but I'm not finished. I like the border on this one and the text.

What do you think of the changes? The changes on the flower one are pretty minor but I think them. The change on the other one is obviously more drastic but that it's okay. Looks better than before I think. I didn't really start the other two that I had but I'm thinking of doing that this afternoon.

Sure I like Mylène, she has a beautiful voice and she has written great songs. But I like Alizée more. She is more beautiful and she sings even better than Mylène :D

If your using windows in another forum they talked about getting around the 60 sec recording limit by leaving your mike off letting it record silence for 60 sec, then hitting record again adding another 60 sec of silence. When you have the lenth of time you need you move the bar back to the start turn on the mic and record. Have no idea if it works, but even if it doesn't a minute of singing would still be nice. :)

Maybe it's not your mic but your application that's crap, if the unique record quality is low. Try Goldwave (has a trial version) or search for a good free program. I think Audacity should do well.

The text is supposed to be like that, I spent a good 20 mins deciding were to put it. The reason it's hard to find is that once you do find it, it's the first thing you see from then on.

BTW your current sig is amazing, it looks like she is almost walking into a storm. Remember what her name means, and you have an amazing sig. That was what you were going for, right? :D

She probably means that you make her look different than in other signatures, not so colorybrighttoohappyish. Just compare your sig(s) to say, the one Amelie has now.
Btw the sig's great. You know, if i was you i'd use this one instead of the one you are using ATM :)

Both texts. But bit different reasons.

Your name is absolutely impossible to read ( I even tried to resize and change brightness). It's too small for that font/style. It makes it unreadable. If I didn't know what it says, I couldn't ever tell.

The Alizée text is bit too dark. Especially the last letter is very hard to figure out. The style is nice but it's simply too dark. Also L is bit hard to see.

Like you said, you may have brightness bit too high. Try to calibrate your monitor. Here's couple links:

Especially TFT monitors are pain in the ass because of their bad dynamics. But with careful calibration, you can archieve acceptable image quality. Never as good dynamics as in CRT but one could possibly live with it.

Thanks, Neoteny. I updated it slightly by changing the blending on Alizée. She's no longer extremely faded at the edges.

Amelie, that signature is nice. I like the new brightness/contrast that Mozaik pointed out as well. However, I thought that the text would have been better back on the left but a little smaller instead of moving it where it's over top of the flowers.

After viewing the smudge signature (the one re-posted below) the text really is much too dark. I'll fix it up tonight or tomorrow night.

Edit: I also like the three-frame signatures that you posted, Amelie. I think that they're good but the one that you're currently using is hard to read. The text is fine but I think that it could use a small outer glow or a stroke to make it easier to see.

The high quality gallery has a lot of the ones that I pick from. Brad got like a hundred of them from a high-quality gallery but I don't remember the URL and they're just as big and have just the same quality in the moi-alizee.us gallery. All of my pictures from the concerts are from the ilovealizee.com gallery. Generally I don't save any Alizée pictures except the ones that I think would go well in a signature. I keep those and when I want to make a signature I look through and pick one of them.

what you are talking about here is the 'third-person indefinite pronoun'. The correct way to write this, at least traditionally would have been:

An artist is never satisfied with one's work.

For whatever reason, the use of the pronoun 'one' is very frowned upon in the United States. At least it was when I was going through school. It has basically been beat out of existance, and children are explicitly told not to use it.

Technically speaking the use of 'their' here is incorrect. But it is so common place that it is accepted (at least in the USA), and even taught this way. For example, it is very common to say ..

person 1: 'My friend called me on the telephone'
person 2: 'what did they say?'

again, the technically correct thing to say would be...

person 2: 'what did your friend say'

bottom line .. there is a lot of debate on this issue. Whenever I am writing something important I struggle over this sometimes. I usually opt for using his or her without the slash. that said, the use of 'their' in informal writing is 100% acceptable (at least in the USA)

yeah, English is full of crazy exceptions. In this case, you could probably just think of it as slang and not worry about it.

But, yeah, "their" shouldn't refer to "an artist" b'cuz the first is plural while the second is singular. In earlier times, the tendency was to use a masculine form in the singular (i.e. his) as a sort of generic, default form, but nowadays that's considered sexist. As a result, we often get the awkward "his/her" or the grammatically incorrect "their." It's a bit of a mess because grammar hasn't caught up with political correctness!


And, aFrenchie, you're right about correct grammar being largely a matter of logic. My own English grammar was immensely improved by studying Latin, which is very logical in its grammar. English grammar was always kind of confusing to me in school. I tend to apply Latin grammar rules to English and it generally works pretty well.

More experience = better sigs, it really does not have anything to do with skill (ok, some people are just really dumb and cant figure it out after years and years of trying, but there isn't anyone like that here). A contest would be a really bad idea - the same people would win over and over.

Too many people would be insulted if a contest of that sort were to be made - there are just too many different levels of experience here.

exoload.net works, I think. It allows you to host 5 mb files or 10 mb files if you register. It's easy to register, too. It asks for a name, password, email, and I don't remember having to verify the email account either.

^^You can buy an educational version legally for half of that while a student, saves the headaches of using warez versions. You just can't use the educational version to start a business when you graduate. And the complete Adobe Creative Suite costs a lot more.

My dad has Photoshop, it takes him an hour to do simple things that can be done in MS Paint. I use Fireworks :)

I use 2 or 3 yeard old Paint Shop Pro 9.

Tho, sometimes I use also GIMP (on Mac and Linux/Unix mostly) and also rarely PS (on Mac and Win).

PSP lacks some (rarely used) features but it simply has the best user interface. PS and GIMP can't compete with it.
