I am releasing this remix first only to the fans at this site. I hope you all enjoy it. I had fun incorporating the Moi Lolita strings in a Gourmandises remix.

Let me know what you all think.

I'm really excited to hear a Gourmandises remix, but I can't seem to play the file. Maybe your hosting site is doing something, try a more standard one.

Thanks for letting me know it wasn't downloading there. Try the new file on MediaFire.

I can tell that it was time stretched, but then again Im in a studio :P

Dont really like the conflicting keys. I would have just transposed the vocals into the right key.

NYMedStudent

actually everything was transposed... it's the fact that on the 3rd lolita string chord there is some clashing in the original version as well with the piano's and with its own reverb... not sure if it's possible to take out

anyway i took your comments into account and here's a new version...

I recommend anyone that listens to this remix listen on decent speakers with some bass. The groove of the remix I feel is better than the original.

Can you do that with Gourmandises strings + L'alize?

Do you mean the Gourmandises piano riff, Zack?

Anyway, NYMedStudent, there's a lot to like in this remix (and I mean a lot. There's a ton of really cool and creative stuff you've done), but I have a few rather big criticisms. First, I don't really like the crunching sound. Sencondly, I don't like the siren sort of thing. Thirdly, and I know this is a big one, I think it's too slow. I know it's a big thing, but I love how Gourmandises has a fast, upbeat, dancy tempo to it. I like playing it really fast :D

I've always loved listening to the beginning of the Fun TV interview with that part.

I don't really like remixes. I don't feel they add anything to the music and, merely, reduce my enjoyment of it.

I like the 2nd revision a lot more except its a bad mix.

What program did you make this in? Its a really unlevel mix and the fix is pretty simple. Also the vocals are just completely stepped over.

With the synth lead id add more attack time and remove the howl at 1:25:5 just because its out of place I think.

I dont like the extro from the bridge, its sudden and rough. Try incorporating some of the synth through the whole bridge and thatll be sort of a gray area.

The whole transition at 3:12 is cool, but the second transition is weird at 3:17. The bass part of the piano is sudden and rough.

The phaser at the end is a lil excessive, too long I think.

Try changing from 110 to 130 or so BPM, it feels a lot more natural to dance to.

Don't take my stuff as a tight ass PLEASE, we all have our opinions and when it comes to music I vent it all; its my job. I'm just recommending to you what I personally would do if it were my own mix, it definitely is original and I'd never think of doing some of what you did. Then again I mainly deal with crap rap.

Im guessing the remix at the beginning of the Funtv interview is an Official remix.

I thought is was ok...the beginning part of the song really didn't mesh. Maybe some cleaner mixing in the beginning...the stop/go made it seem like it was skipping. The Melodies of ML and Gourmandise clashed alot and didn't sound right...kinda like a run-on sentence. The there's the issue w/the Wolf howl  what's up with that? That threw everything outta wack.

If its a Gour remix, stick w/gourmadies as the main melody. You have about 30 sec of just the ML tune; had a hard time deciding if its a ML or gour mix

that's my 50cents worth....

OK, I'll see what can be done...

as for the wolf thing, isn't she likening the subject of the song to a wolf? a steppenwolf?

as to why there wasn't more of either ML or Gourmandises, it's because I wanted to make a blend not a strict remix of gourmandises

Maybe this is the wrong thread, but I'm curious what kind of software/equipment you guys are using for remixing and what kinds of techniques you are using for sample editing/etc. Thanks!

right now i'm using crap because no software works on vista and i really dont have a sound card to speak of...

the software i just stumbled upon is called mixcraft... not as good as steinberg wavelab in my opinion

That's cool. I've been trying out REAPER, and Luna before that (mainly as VST hosts for doing MIDI work though).

excellent critique... i actually agreed with most of what you said, so i changed some things around and i think everyone will like the final result...

a sped up version, altered synth, rearranged order (no more jumping around), lowered master levels, no more clashing because the lolita strings were taken out of the blend and yes, i took out the wolf...

but i put in DMX.

I like the muted bass hits you added to the intro. I also like the new tempo.

I dont like the fact that you shortened the string thing at 0:15, that was one of my most memorable parts.

The synth at the begining is too watery I think, but I also think that its about 2db too loud. If you pull the volume back it wont sound as watery. **add: the volume of the synth is PERFECT in the middle of the song. Exactly what Im trying to say you need on the intro**

Idk about the "GO" or whatever thats yelled at 1:19, first its not even on tempo, second if you remove that I think the inclusion of the drums would be enough of a surprise transition.

Next part makes no sense. Moi Lolita starts with it saying "un fou rire". Now lets backtrack to the last lyric from Gourmandises, "mais les baisers d'alizee sont de vraies gourmandises".

Strung together, that is "but the kisses of alizee are true candy ... a insane laugh"

Idk thats just being picky though, stood out to me ;P

I LOVE the Lolita part after that. Hate the tape rewind at 2:38. Just insert dead air, you had the right idea but bad implementation :P

Once again the next GO or whatever is offbeat and for that reason stands out a lot, if you were to just move it forward itd be atleast acceptable :P

At around 4:02 if you're going to have an instrumental part go all for it. Use the phaser to fade out in a unique way, but don't leave the lyrics lingering back there like it is.

Thats all I have. The next 3 minutes are dead.

Maybe Im playing this up to be more then you want, i dont know what you're going for. I'm attacking this from the viewpoint of a professional, maybe thats not what you're going for.

You're definitely making improvements.

Btw try Cubase Studio 4 Student edition. Not too bad. Not bad at all.

I'm no expert and I hope you don't take this too negatively, as I admire your attempt, but IMHO the mix seems just too busy. There seems to be a lack of a consistant beat to tie everything together. Though I may be bias in my assessment because I do enjoy Xelakad's mixes. I've not had the chance to listen to your 3rd edit (w/ DMX mix?) because I've reached the free download limit for today.

Is Xelakad the one who slammed the Alice Deejay "Better Off Alone" lead line underneath L'Alizé?

Neoific, so you do professional music work? That's pretty cool. How did you get into it? Did you say you're doing mainly rap music?

It would appear so, but if credit was given (I don't know) then I see no problem. Just remember LB used a sampling of Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock - "It Takes Two" in the same song L'Alizé. Besides, I enjoy the Mr. Teaser remix of L'Alizé better. I think it's because the En Concert cover was used. :D

Thanks again for the input. I really didn't mean this particular remix to be professional level since I don't have any of my equipment. I was aiming more at youtube level haha

Nevertheless the more I listen to it the more I like it and quite frankly seem to prefer it now to the original. (Not to the original Lolita though)

The "GO" in the song is really DMX yelling c'mon. And the reason it's offbeat is because that's how he does it. Check out some of DMX tracks and you'll see.

As to the lyrics strung together I found that pretty funny what it translated to, but then again since when do song lyrics make any sense?
