Hey all - I found a French download site that allows Americans to pay for and download Mademoiselle Juliette!. I followed a link from nidalizee to the site www.starzik.com, and discovered I could buy the song without it reacting to where I'm from.

Now then, what I did was I bought a 10 Euro credit for my account, and then used the credit to download the song. I did not try putting my credit card in directly to buy it, though in retrospect I'm thinking that may be possible. Either way, here's the process I used:

1) Go to www.starzik.com (zik is French slang for "music")

2) In the box on the top left, click "Créer un compte gratuitement" and do the normal process for making an account.

3) It will email you your password. Go get it and log in.

4) In the box on the top left, click "Acheter un forfait (10€=11 crédits, ...)"

5) Keep the radio button on "Forfait MINI" and click one of the credit-card icons below.

6) Fill out your credit card info and hit "Valider"

7) When the transaction resolves, head back to the home page, where the top left box should now show "Votre compte : 11.00€" right under your login name.

8) Scroll down the page to where you'll see Mademoiselle Juliette - it's on the front page - and click the three arrows pointing downward next to it (it will say "télécharges cette musique" when you mouseover it).

9) Click "Cliquez sur ce lien pour utiliser votre compte STARZIK" in the first section

10) On the next page, click the link, and it will start downloading!

Note: It may be possible to skip almost all those steps, and simply download the song by clicking the three arrows next to it on the front page, and selecting the credit card option directly from there. I haven't tried it.

Note: There is still DRM on this song, just as from all the other legal sites. Be prepared to either strip it, or run it on licensed machines only.

I tried to buy MJ from www.starzik.com and I got the account set up with no problems. I decided to see if I could just purchase the download, but when I entered my credit card info and clicked "Valider", it told me that MY bank would not make the payment. I wonder what's up with that.

I already got MJ, I just wanted to test buying the download.

Never used a Zune myself so I can't say for sure. But I would assume the Zune Marketplace would be in the same situation as the Itunes Store.

Itunes also has the first 2 albums, and MJ is available on the French Itunes Store, but not on US Itunes. Sadly it won't let you just switch nationalities and download, you can browse but thats about it.

Edit: Also Welcome to the forums! :)

How do you strip a DRM? I'm not going to share the song with anyone, I just want to manipulate it with some audio software, and it won't let me with the DRM on there.

The programs that are easiest to use, such as FreeUse4WM, require you to first obtain the license legitimately. You then simply run the song through the program, and it will be converted so that it never needs that license again. It's something you have to download. The fact that they require a legit license in the first place is how they manage to stay legal, despite the whining and gnashing of teeth from Microsoft et al.

does Freeuse or Fairuse work with WMP 11? i tried and it didn't work and later found out that the latest WMP update cripples DRM ripping. it advised i downgrade to older WMP, but i haven't tried yet.

FU4WM is listed as working with WMP 9, 10, and 11, though Microsoft continously tries to disable it. It's a battle back and forth between the two, trying to keep on top of eachother's techniques.

Geez, how did we go from simply buying a 45, making a personal cassette copy for the car....and playing the music? Now we have to navigate DRM, WMA, MP3, and download players and patches and worrying about regions and all sorts of other shit...and that's after going through electronic gymnast hell to download the song in the first place, begging (pleading) the record company to accept a credit card that 99% of the free world willingly accepts. And it take a collective fan-based community to bring it together.

WHY MAKE IT SO HARD FOR CONSUMERS TO PART WITH THEIR MONEY AND BUY THE PRODUCT IN A MANNER THEY CAN ACTUALLY ENJOY IT?

I've given up. I'll wait for the CD....assuming I can actually buy it before I die of old age.

How long do you folks think it will take amazon.fr to put the new album on the site for pre-order ? I know that on amazon.com, it's not unusual ro see CDs and DVDs up for pre-orders more than a month or so before the release date.
