In the past few days I have spend considerable time researching Alizee's life and career. As a result, I'm concerned about her future.
I haven't confirmed this but my suspicions are that everyone involved is getting rich except for Alizee who is the key to the entire thing. I wonder if she ended up with anything more than an expensive education and battle scars.
After watching her first public appearance, it was obvious that it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out she had serious potential as a performer. As far as her "discovery" it was a matter of who got to her first.
I seriously doubt that a kid, with her trust and generosity would possess the knowledge to enter into a fair contract. If she did, it was nothing less than a miracle.
Exploited or not, she did her part of making it to the top. If she is careful, she can do even better.
Other concerns are that I have this gut feeling that she may try to fix something that isn't broken. Her style works! It is extremely uncommon for a single artist to have her awesome looks, dancing ability, voice and of course personality. Change any one of those factors and we no longer have Alizee.
This is a poor comparison but let's use Britney Spears as an example. The only thing she had going for her was looks. And they weren't that great. She couldn't sing and her dance steps looks like one of Jerry's kids learning to walk. My point is this... good or bad, these careers don't last forever. If she screws it up, it's over.
I hope she does even better this time around but I'm keeping my fingers crossed just in case.
Honestly I believe she has more talent and potential than I have ever seen. (I have seen a lot!) She deserves a fair chance to prove it.

There has been a great deal of discussion over this, and no solid answers can be reached, as her personal financial transactions aren't exactly public record, nor should they be. Suffice it to say, she's got enough money that she'd never have to work again, if she didn't want to, but she wants to :-)
On this most recent album, I think the concensus has been that her new upcoming stuff is actually more her style (preference-wise) than her old things. Previously, she was working for others, and was always described as being the "singer of Mylene/Laurant's songs." This time around, others are working for her, and it's described as her "choosing excellent people to write her songs" and such. She has, for years, expressed an enjoyment of rock, and a desire for more electric guitars and rock-type sounds in her music.
While I understand concern, obviously, I wouldn't lose sleep over her future. She has all the potential you describe, and is out there kicking butt and taking names as we speak, using her potential to its maximum now.

EXCELLENT! I needed some positive news like that! Granted it is none of my business but I've been stressing out over it.
If she truly has control this time around we are in for a wild ride.
I've been thinking it is time for a vacation. It would be great to go on a trip that includes one of her concerts!
Maybe I can talk my wife into cutting her hair and dressing like Alizee... maybe we can sneak in for free. My wife is always interested in a good prank.

Yes, Cooney's words are sage; I don't really think there is much need for concern. The truth of the matter is (despite how much we would like to think it isn't true) that what we don't know about Alizée, the particulars of her relationships, finances, and her future career will always far outweigh what we do know about her. What is obvious is that Alizée is a talent and beauty beyond comparison. But what may not be quite so obvious, but seems to be rather consistent based on the comments of lucky individuals who have actually met her, and by "reading between the lines" of her interviews and public appearances, is that Alizée is an intellegent, genuinely good-natured, and strong-willed individual. Can she or her advisors/creative team still make mistakes?...sure. Can her domestic (French) and international audience fail her?...sure, it's possible. But what is certain about this point in her career more than at any other is that Alizée is much more in the driver's seat. And given her integrity as an individual, I believe that it is safe and prudent to trust Alizée to do what is best for her future, not only her career, but her family, and in pursuing a life which will ultimately serve her best interest and happiness. Alizée isn't the little Lolita any more, nor the care-free young adult teenager; she's a grown woman now who's integrity, talent, past successes, and web of support have prepared her to enter a new chapter in her life and career. There are some "fans" which have bemoaned the loss of Alizée's childhood youth. But I strongly believe that this is an exciting time in which we will see much more of the "real" Alizée (at least what glimpses she is willing to show us). Sure there are uncertainties that you can dwell on if you choose, but I trust that the best is yet come; I trust Alizée ;)
PS - If you keep claiming your wife looks so much like Alizée, there will come a point where you're gonna have to put your money where your mouth is a show us a pic. :p

No worries. She seems to be doing fine (inferred from what little we know). Both as entertainer and as just an all around person (and mom!)

Don't underestimate the power, influence, talent, and vision of Farmer and Boutonnat. It was a powerful triad.
After watching her first public appearance, it was obvious that it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out she had serious potential as a performer. As far as her "discovery" it was a matter of who got to her first.
There are many talented people out there who are never found or who are only found at mediocre level. Again, the power of Moi Lolita wasn't just Alizée. The lyrics and composition, and presentation were critical to the success.
I seriously doubt that a kid, with her trust and generosity would possess the knowledge to enter into a fair contract.
I'm not too keen on French law, but I'm not sure she could enter a contract at her intro point. I trust she had adult (probably her parents) who had enough of life's wisdom to keep things straight.
Exploited or not, she did her part of making it to the top. If she is careful, she can do even better.
Yes!

Change is inevitable. It doesn't need to be a big change, and it can move gradually. But change is all part of growing up. Nothing wrong with cherishing memories past, but hang on too tight and you will be disappointed. Learn to (expect to) enjoy the changes. [Aside: This is a good philosophy for marriage].

Watch the interviews from years past. Alizée displayed a lot of wisdom for someone so young. Something tells me she would be fine and enjoy just growing up living a normal life. By not living her life through her career, but instead having her career along with her life, there really is nothing to screw up "career wise". That's the wisdom in living one's life first.
Honestly I believe she has more talent and potential than I have ever seen. (I have seen a lot!) She deserves a fair chance to prove it.
I agree on the talent. As for the rest, I don't think she has anything to prove. She just "is". And a wonderful magnificant "is" is she.

That was a main portion of my point. It would be very easy for such a group to exploit a child. Her parents may not have seen it coming.

Agreed but without the solid foundation she started with, her dedication, and effort there wouldn't be anything to work with.

I don't know anything about French law but assume her parents played a role. Even so, could they have had the knowledge and experience to look out for Alizee's best interests? I have no doubt they did their best but question their ability in the beginning. I'm willing to bet that if they could go back in time there would be changes.

I think we all agree that Alizee is definitely improving with age. She must evolve to survive but the bottom line is that her fans love her as herself. Someone mentioned that they trust her. I do too. She isn't stupid by any means. If she has any control this time around she will do well.

There is plenty to screw up career wise. Not that she will, but there is a very long list of others who followed a path to self-destruction.

Without question she has it all. Someone her child can be VERY proud of. Of all her accomplishments I think being a mother will top them all.

Funny story about the dangers of posting her picture on the www.
My wife and I were looking at houses one day. I found her standing in the shower (inspecting a stain from the window). While she was standing in there I took her picture.
A short time later I bet a friend that I would post a photo of my wife, in the shower, on the Internet. I neglected to mention the fact that she was completely dressed.
I won the bet, but when my wife found out she was furious!
That is why I hesitate to share another picture. But at least I'll ask this time. Maybe she got over it by now. If you see mine end up on a milk carton you know things didn't go well.

Make your wife your avatar. If she really does bear a resemlance to Alizée, no one has to know.
Edit: Oh, about being mad. Was she mad because you posted the pic, or mad because posted one with her clothes on?
:)

Well, I don't know his wife, I'm sorry to say (heh, j/k), but if I had to guess I'd guess that she was mad because he made her into a rather vulgar joke. It's not that he posted a picture of her in the shower (clothed or not), but that he made doing so his stake in a bet, as if he had the right to, as if she were a possession to be offered sexually (even if only to the eyes) to his friends without any volition on her part.
This is not generally appreciated by women. Take my word for it. ;)
And this means that she might have no problem with having her pictures posted here -- if you ask her first.

Good idea about the Avatar but out of respect (and my personal safety) I'll ask her first.
As for the story of the bet, it was merely a case of poor taste in a joke. No disrespect was intended.
The possession thing is difficult to describe. While I don't feel I own her as a slave or object, she is a part of me. So in a sense I guess I do own her. If I keep talking it will end up as a lease so I better shut-up.
Nice goin' now I'm in big trouble!

Forget the lease.
Put her on Ebay!

What kind of reputation are we going to have if we give such bad advice to new people?

I'm so hoping she can pick up steam in the states. She really has it in her to do so. That would also help fulfill her dream of singing with Madonna and are dreams of being in the same venue as her!

In some sense that's somehow sort of the "opposite" of counting for the purposes of this discussion, it seems....:)

Only a little. If I really wanted to get 'em in trouble I would have suggested a "buy now" price.:p
