When/if Alizée starts performing again, how will she sing "J'ai pas vingt ans"? She's not "not 20" anymore.

What's "I'm not 23 years old" in French?

Yeah yeah...I'm bored. :D

i have a feeling she wont sing that song again, she might but she will probably sing her new songs and maybe moi...lolita

brad

i thought about that .. lol.

it will prolly be even harder for her to sing moi lolita in the future. just wont be the same coming from a 35 year old (assuming she is still singing then)

Bob

wait...isnt she 22?

DJ_Greg

Right. Which would make her...not 23. ;)

Yeah, by that point she won't be singing that song regularly anymore, and when she does, it'll just be for nostalgia.

I dunno...does Madonna sing "Material Girl" anymore?

Why wouldn't she? You can sing anything you want in a concert.

Umm, lets hope she can sing again some of her older songs, it will be a shame if she wont sing them again :( . Do you guys know how it works this? i mean with the rupture with mylene? rights or smtg like that -.-?

yeah thats what i was talking about because of the rumors about her old record label owninig the rights to songs and not her

I don't think that would stop her from singing her old songs. I couldn't see Polydor or whoever trying to stop her either since they would have nothing to lose if she did.

Well, lots of artists have songs written by other people. And people cover other artists in concert all the time. Isn't there some sort of "public domain" laws that protect that?

True...they're making all the money from us buying Alizée's old albums anyway.

You guys remember the band Nine Days? The had that "Story of a Girl" song a while back. They recorded a follow-up album and were ready to release it (even the single came out on radio), but then got dropped by their label. The label won't let them release the album because they own the rights to those songs.

BUT... I was at this fair in NJ a few years ago, and Nine Days happened to be playing. Despite all the crap with their label, they were playing lots of the songs from that album that won't ever get released.

So I think the rules are different for concerts. Maybe C-4 knows better?

Maybe C-4 knows better?According to what I've heard, most of the recording contracts are written in a way that performers can sing their songs live all they want. Labels, however, hold exclusive distribution rights to their artists' work, so they are the ones who decide when, where, how and for how much it is sold. So unless Alizee had some special provisions in her contract with Polydor/Universal, she should have no problem singing her older songs.

Going to concerts is actually the best way to financially support your favorite artists. Record sales actually benefit record labels and mainly their executives the most (artists usually get 5% of the profits or less). On the other hand, during the tours and live performances, most of the profits go back directly to the artists.

BTW, it's probably not the cost of a ticket for Alizee's concert that you can't afford, it's probably the cost of plane tickets to France and back as well as other expenses that come as a part of the trip. Am I right or am I right?

Right. That's why it's "I'm Not Twenty"...because she was 18 and 19 when she sang it. Now she's 22, so that's why I said "I'm not 23"...because she's not 23...she's 22.

Means nothing in French without "ans" (years) right after the number ;)
"J'ai pas vingt-trois ans"

Well now that's too many syllables...

riva2model64

and imagine in the English version of the song,
in stead of she singing "I'm not twenty",
it would be "I'm not twenty-three"

that wouldn't fit either

DJ_Greg
08-24-2006, 12:12 PM
Hm...ok. "I'm Not 30"?

riva2model64
08-24-2006, 12:25 PM
ha, that's what i was thinking

according to some online translator thirty is trente

"J'ai pas Trente ans"?

DJ_Greg

Oh well, "vingt" it is. JPVA is one of my favorite Alizée songs...she can't stop performing it!
