View Full Version : An Opportunity to Promote Alizée: Yelle's US Tour

NarutoSoul

The French artist Yelle has a US tour coming up this fall. These shows are a great opportunity for the US fans to get more people interested in Alizée, and to have fun while doing it! Wear something Lili-related, drop Alizée materials, have fun! The tour's success would also be something to show Sony/BMG that promoting a French artist in the US is a viable business venture.

See if she'll be performing near you!

Thanks for the sticky!

I wasn't bragging. I wanted to promote her at the concert. Now I can't do both.

Dammit, they're going to Vancouver, but not coming to Toronto? What the hell?

If either the Chicago or Milwaukee shows were on a weekend, I could swing it--I actually have family in Milwaukee--but going in the middle of the week is gonna be a no-no.

This is a great idea. Not that I particularly like Yelle, but it's an absolutely perfect target audience! LTNY will definitely be present at the New York date (October 14th). Setting it up now and will post details soon.

Thanks for the info. I've never heard of this artist, but I noticed she will be performing in Denver at the Odgen Theatre (http://www.ogdentheater.net/) on Oct. 24 (unfortunately I will be in Paris). I did check out the venue's official site and noticed that they had a "Contact Us" link. So, I went ahead and sent them a message about getting Alizée here and what I need to do to make it happen. :D I hope they respond with some good information.

I also read in the "Alizée and America" posts (wow, talk about catching up on my reading) about how Ciara dreamt that Alizée performed in Denver and things didn't turn out so well, and some folks may think that to be a bad omen or Denver is not a good spot, just think it's fairly centralized and if it's good enough for the DNC why not Lili? Heck, even Madonna will finally be performing here in November. So all you Denver haters can just sit at your computer desk in awe if/when I manage to get her here! :p

BTW, maybe some of you folks can help with this promotion initiative and message their MySpace:

Yelle already came to Toronto during her Québec tour. A shame, too, because I missed the performance, and I'm a fan.

Bleah, the 14th is a Tuesday...again, the middle of the week. If it had been on a weekend, I was seriously thinking of making my way out to help. Oh, well...let me know if I can assist with material costs, or whatnot.

The Operation Disque Drop (http://disquedrop.blogspot.com/2008/08/op-drop-and-alize-shine-batsignal.html) guy is also paying attention:

So this is where you come in, folks--if you're an Alizée fan who'd be interested in being a remote operative for Op Drop at one of these shows, please leave me a comment here on the blog, or email me at disquedrop@gmail.com. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to distribute as many disques as possible in and around your venue, in the method of your choosing. I'll supply the disques you need to do the job, and ship them to you absolutely free of charge, if you can supply the manpower and legwork to get it done.

It's worth going to see Yelle just to see Yelle, not just to promote Alizée. Either is a good reason, though :)

Y'know, I've been streaming the songs from her MySpace in the background as I've been doing other stuff, and actually quite enjoyed them. Now I'm doubly ticked I missed her when she was here. :(

I've heard Yelle on a local radio station here, so I started requesting Alizée on Saturday nights which is "all request night". The station is part of Minnesota Public radio, its programming is done locally and generally has a reputation for being open minded. I had no luck so I sent the station the Psychédélices CD and continued requesting, but still they haven't played her. It sure is frustrating.

Yelle isn't coming anywhere near my neck of the woods, which isn't surprising. Not many big acts visit Louisiana anymore. Anyhow I have Yelle's "Pop Up" album and like it quite a bit. Has an 80's dance vibe to it and some pretty explicit lyrics at times (didn't know til I read translations):)

I was in photography class today, and to my great surprise, someone started blasting one of her songs (the "talk to the hand" one)! It would have been a great moment to introduce my compatriots to Lili...had nearly all of them not immediately protested and requested that "French sh*t" to be turned off :(. Damned xenophobic American ego.

To swing back on topic, here's an article I found in the Dallas Morning News today:

"Yell for Yelle"

French electro-pop songstress Julie Budet, whose stage name Yelle is a feminized version of the acronym YEL ("You Enjoy Life!"), first made her claim to fame on MySpace. She'll point her cupid's arrow at Dallas hearts tonight at 8 (doors at 7) at House of Blues' White Swan Building, 2200 N. Lamar St. $15-$35...

Wish I could have gone.

Not only promoting at this concert. But even if Alizée websites don't have a store to buy shirts from...there are a dozen places by me that create shirts. Cheap prices too. You should make shirts and maybe banners for homes or even lawn signs(so long as the copyright laws are taken into consideration before making any). I would put decals on my car but I am getting rid of my car now and getting a dodge charger. So there are various ways to promote her also. Whynot when your at this concert open a table with information about Alizée. Little booklets and brochures. But yeah I think it's a great idea trying to promote her there while listening to other music artists. Also. Make sure you promote Alizée America aswell so we can all give out information to the new comers if we didn't go. I am sure we would always love to see new faces here.

Tell them also she is a Jedi...Look at my signature...she leads the clones fearlessly into battle against the separatists and there allies.

On her myspace, there's a little mask you can print, cut out, and construct. Supposedly, anyone who makes one gets a kiss from Yelle after the show!

As awesome as it would be, Lili should not do something of this sort. Because without a doubt, everyone in the audience would be wearing one, riots would break loose, sharp objects would fly, etc., etc., etc. ;)

Thanks for posting that video, Jung. I'm happy for Yelle and I am glad she had the courage to be the one to "break the ice" so to speak. I hope it pays off for her and that she goes on to prove that people in the USA can be accepting of French music. The audience sure seemed to enjoy it.

But I can't help but to think that Alizée could have been the one to do it, if only she had the will or desire. I hope Alizée is aware of what Yelle is accomplishing here and comes to realize that she may have possibilities here as well. As always, I guess it's up to her.

Thanks for posting that video, Jung. I'm happy for Yelle and I am glad she had the courage to be the one to "break the ice" so to speak. I hope it pays off for her and that she goes on to prove that people in the USA can be accepting of French music. The audience sure seemed to enjoy it.

no problem she did amazing and the fact that she has had sold out concerts in the US is a huge accomplishment

and the fact she was on a major US TV channel is huge

I am positive that she will be back in the near future and I greatly anticipate it

But I can't help but to think that Alizée could have been the one to do it, if only she had the will or desire. I hope Alizée is aware of what Yelle is accomplishing here and comes to realize that she may have possibilities here as well. As always, I guess it's up to her.

heh heh that would be nice

and I believe that Alizée is aware of Yelle's accomplishments here hopefully it rings a bell and she can do some venues around here or maybe a just a late night show anything would be very helpful

well for all of you who missed Carson Daily last night here is Yelle's performance (this is her US TV debut:eek::wub:

Cool I was waiting to see it. The crowd surprised me, seems they really liked it, was a lot of cheering before he even announced her. Good to see a group of open minded people, hopefully paves the wave for not only french artist but international artist in general to have more of a market here. Anyway thanks for posting up the video here Jung, love Julie's high energy performances. Also thanks to those who recorded it, AC Mix, I'm guessing. Wish Carson or someone would have interviewed Yelle while they are here.

A Cause Des Garcons-Yelle

You're mad we're not gonna make you up
Another story like that
What story you talking about
You dare you started it all
I quit
You're really too crazy
You mess up at small things
You see, him, he thinks I'm really smashing

Refrain :
Because of boys
We put nylon stockings
We fight between girls
Because of boys
And of what others think
We go flirting any which way
Because of boys
We salute all right
Because of boys

Rifle is the word that springs to my mind
When I think about my (girl)friends
And I'm sick of it
Without being part of your dose
Of daydreaming
I'm hallucinating
We must pester you
All this for a show off of a guy
You've got the blues I leave him to you
He's your style

REFRAIN (a second time)

It's because of mags
Magazines
The Marie, the Claire
The Marie-Claire
The Figues, the Macdo outer Claire
The women of today and of yesterday
It's because of mags
Magazines
The Marie, the France
The Marie-France
Practical women that have had enough
Of Cosmo Vogue and all the bazar

Because of boy
We squeeze our lemon
We melt like icecubes
Because of boys
I lie you lie we lie
We glide like soap

Because of boys
We push each other all right
Because of boys

Because of boys

Also, if you check out her wiki, the song was remixed and used in EA's "Need for Speed: ProStreet" video game. ;)

Its a big thing for her...a FRENCH performer/band...to play on US TV. Too bad Moi Lolita didn't debut in 2001 or so. Alizee would HUGE here in the USA w/Moi Lolita..or even JEAM and JPVA. For her current album, 50/60 is perfect!!!

Thats said...although this is a milestone...the song did kinda suck!...didn't really care for it. But i hope Alizee is watching...and know that YES, it is possible to perform in the USA. :):)

Yelle seems to be getting attention.

No kidding. And she's becoming rather popular with kids my age particularly; there have been five or six instances over the past few months where I've heard people talking about her and her music. Almost everyone who is in a French club/class at school has heard of Yelle, but almost no one has heard of Alizée (no use being sad about it, it's to be expected considering the latter's lack of exposure/promotion/interest in the American market). But the popularity is well-deserved, her style is definitely unique and, if I may add, is really starting to grow on me :).

I would be very very amazed if anybody around me ever talked about Yelle or her music, or if I would ever hear it in public. Not here in Iowa. My two best friends hate the French, one hates them because of their military history, the other just hates them because the first one hates them...but if anyone ever speaks French in a game server he will tell them off very forcefully. But perhaps Yelle's and Alizee's futures are very bright for the US market. It seems to be the direction we're headed, and Yelle could change the entire view on foreign music in this country. (There could possibly be some other foreign artists that are similar and are breaking through, I just don't know about them)

Your friends make me angry. Military lackluster shouldn't be a reason to hate on a beautiful national identity that has shaped the American identity so much.
But for breaking music markets, I would love that indeed, I would love to see more Americans hear a lot more Finnish musics, amongst others!
Oh, and other artists growing a more popular American fanbase is this:

^well ND is basically the same but I do tend to blast both of them while driving my car

as far as other foreign bands the only one I can think of that is main stream in the US is Rammstien

there are others who have made appearances that I know of, but I can't think of any that have had major tours with as much success as Rammstien has you can even find there albums in many stores around here which says something

Yelle on the other hand is very unheard of around here and when I asked the guy at a local Music shop (the one that would be the only one that would possibly order anything) if he could get Alizée in he checked his suppliers and none of them even sold her stuff in the US so in short I have to either order online or get it from Barnes and Noble (as they can probably get it only at an insane price)

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but it's my understanding that the song "À Cause Des Garçons" was written by Alain Chamfort and Pierre Grillet. The same Alain Chamfort that wrote "Adélaïde" which he, as you all know, performed with Alizée a while back.

I like how they split it into two parts, girls vs guys... Guess they couldn't do that with Yelle. Also like the ending where it sort of builds up with everyone singing and finish off with a guitar solo.

And yeah, I really miss the old MTV aswell. Althou I only remember it from the 90s they still were tons better and had much more 'music' in thier playlist. Now days I just watch VH1 or ZTV, MTV is just a bunch of bs...
