Cren starts in a little more than 3hours. Expect many new discoveries in physics and chemistry to come out of this experiment in the coming months. For those who don't know CERN is a particle accelerator located in Switzerland. It is the largest machine ever built by man kind and it will simulate the forces that occurred during the big bang.

I love all you guys...just wanted to get it out there since in 3 hours, a massive black hole will rend the very fabric that holds the world together and destroy all life. (Don't worry, that's just what the crackpots are saying :D:D ). What would the scientists of the past say if they could bear witness to the world-changing display in a couple of hours. I can't wait to hear the findings  .

No its not a crackpot theory. I herd that there is just an extremely low percentage of this happening.

I think Newton would literally sh*t his pants if he saw this. But scientists of the past don't care abut science pshhhhhhhhhhh they care about Alizee and the study of how her perfect genetics came to be:D

Yea I cant wait for the results either, who knows what they will find out in just a couple days time.

This has been talked about on the other alizée forums, about time it showed up here :p

I'm on the next rocket to mars  Didn't they already find water there? :p

maybe I'll finally discover life on mars

....Alizee videos on this website go down about the same time the Large Hadron Collider in Europe goes online. I wonder!? Hmm..:p

CERN is the name of the organisation that built the machine (Organisation Européenne pour la Recherche Nucléaire (renamed from Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire, but acronym was retained). The accelerator itself is named LHC (Large Hadron Collider). Also this is not about chemistry but particle physics.

The accelerator has to be fine-tuned in the coming months, it is operating at a small percentage of its full capacity right now. And no, the world won't end because of this.

Gosh, I came in to class this morning, and everyone was like "WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!".
Then our mathsteacher set us straight...

And I, had no idea about anything, I thought it was some kind of late joke.
I didn't feel exactly smart though, when I found out what everyone was on about... xD

Well, it's true, we are all going to die. :)
It'll be more or less for some people. :D

Except Brad of course, he's an immortal (and some other forum members)

My dad was telling me the other day that a supercollider was slated to be built in Texas in 1993. Oh, and it was supposed to be three times the size of the LHC .
However, after hiring over 2000 people and drawing scientists from all over the world, congress cut funding, supposedly skeptical about the $9 billion price tag. The U.S. lost a huge opportunity to advance scientific knowledge, and the government will be kicking itself soon enough ;).

Oh, and what exactly happened when they turned the thing on? I haven't really heard any news so I take it that the first-test results were underwhelming?

The first test passed w/flying colors! So far so good...The particle beams that were activated won't hit full power until about one year from now.

When that happens, they will be redirected at each other....then the "Big Bang" the scientists were hoping for happens. This is where many actvists & scientists think the world ending events could occur...black holes, stranglets, etc. Its gonna be interesting next yr..

Pardon me.
But what is the point of this machine?
To simulate the events of the Universe's creation?

I just have to ask, what's the bloody point. You're here, you're living, you've got friends (or not, never know with Scientists), and it's a pretty world, what's so "interesting" about the universe's creation, it doesn't make a difference in the end anyway.

Ah well i'm just ranting, i'm sure they have their purposes, but in case any weird occurences do happen, I hope they go to Hell, but most likely, nothing is going to happen and it will be just a Big bang on a big TV.

I'm so glad you asked that, Barret. By way of explanation, allow me to present the undoubtedly single geekiest thing you will see this week:

I think I either died of laughter or the sheer fact that they used rap music to portray scientific points. :)

I still don't see the point. From the non-scientific, spiritual life-loving point of view of my brain, I don't see the point, but obviously the elaborative, analytical, atom-studying mind of these, arousing group of rapper-scientists, they contradict mine otherwise.
