TV5 Monde sometimes show things from other French channels, like France2. I don't think ever Canal+, but had to make sure. I got a letter the other week inviting TV5 subscribers in New York to be in the studio audience of their election night coverage.

Alizée did once say that the USA did not interest her, but she was talking about the music industry here, not the USA itself. She obviously likes many things related to the USA, but at the time she did not want to extend her career to the US for fear of the "sharks".

Maybe RMJ will enlighten us on why she was here. If I understood correctly, he said something about she was told to be in NYC last weekend. Maybe it was for business. As far as why they were at the TV show, I think Bigdan explained it. Alizée and Jérémy are friends with Mouloud who took part in the broadcast. They must have known they were all going to be in NYC at the same time so Alizée and Jérémy decided to attend the broadcast to see and meet up with their friend. I assume they are also on a little vacation. Isn't Nov. 6 their wedding anniversary?

Dude, she was in my TIME ZONE! She was only a few miles from an exit to I-95 that would have taken her within a mile of my house (if she drove south for three hours). In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if her plane flew OVER my house on her way to NYC! :)

Actually what I think is nice is she probably had the luxury of wandering the streets in complete anonymity, without a single request for an autograph or photo. Nice to think she can use the US as a place to maybe get away, I guess. Of course that means she has no career here. But personally I'd rather have her be relaxed and happy as a normal tourist here, than as just another celeb dealing with the public.

Um no you speak American technically. Do you call the hood of your car a bonnet? Do you call the trunk the boot? Many other English words are very different than what we speak here in the states. So technically we speak American. Very different languages.

Who ever said anything about hating Americans anyway? She didn't want to try to go into the American market when she was young supposedly because she was intimidated by it. And now she's just not willing to come unless there's a certain level of fan power already here (apparently). She's done the same number of her own concerts here in the USA in 2008 as she has in France. She definitely would like to do concerts in France.

This thing about Alizée not liking the USA has popped up before. There is no evidence that Alizée dislikes the USA. In fact, she seems to love many things about the USA. She really likes some of the artists, actors, music and TV shows. She seems to love New York. She’s been here 3 times that we know of and got married here. I wouldn’t say that that sounds like someone who hates the USA.

I don’t think Alizée is the type of person who would hate a whole group of people simply based on their geographic location in the world. I think she is much more intelligent than that.

Alizée likes America just fine, but we are foreigners. Think about that. She may not feel particularly comfortable trying to jump out and promote herself in the biggest playing field in the world which happens to be a foreign country where people speak a language she does not know very well at all. People have talked about having conversations with her in English; so, we know there's a certain level there, but we've also seen how limited it is in other circumstances. And now having studied French for two years I know how hard it is to learn a foriegn language. I don't really see her ever having the time to learn English very well. Still, that doesn't have to be a barrier any more than it was going to Mexico or Korea or whatever, but I'd find that pretty intimidating, especially when she's no longer a big star in her own country. It's one thing to have a country crazy about her and welcome her by demand. It's another to go in fairly unknown and try to make something happen. I can't see her ever choosing that road, but yes some of the suggestions in the getting Alizée to the US threads have been good or at least show that with some imagination there are possibilities.

In any case, Alizée while not seeming to be especially shy is certainly not that kind of extrovert. She was a diamond in the rough plucked out and polished to a shine.

We could do that with general lessons. She has never posted to a fan site as herself, though, and to do it in disguise might be a bit too much of a giveaway. Still, there's nothing to stop her from browsing.

Actually, I doubt that her limited English is the reason why she doesn't try to break into the U.S. market. Her Spanish is no better, but she went to Mexico. She has almost no Russian at all, but she went to Moscow. She's been to Italy and Germany, but she doesn't know Italian or German except a few words. She went to Japan, and AFAIK she knows no Japanese.

There is probably another reason, and the best suggestion I have seen is that she wants to preserve the U.S. as a place she can come and visit and have fun without being deluged by huge numbers of fans, papparazzi, etc. Success here would be enormously lucrative, but perhaps not worth that price.

But mastering a foreign language is worthwhile for its own sake. I see nothing wrong with people whose command of English is excellent offering to help her out, as a friendly gesture.

Let me modify that. She probably wouldn't give herself away if she posted in English. I doubt any of us would recognize the style. If she posted too much in French, though, it's possible that she would write the same way she talks in interviews.

Be that as it may -- I think that a section for learning or improving English would be a great idea, and not just for Her Grace's benefit. There are many members who don't speak English as a first language.

I would be happy to contribute to such a section if some moderator wants to create it. Anyone else agree?

Yeah, I was gonna say...I was wondering about that when I read your post initially. If Alizée identified herself as, say, Jojobell from Botswana, I doubt anyone would see through the fiction (or even suspect there was one to begin with). Even if she did reveal an obsessive love for Tinkerbell, or started posting detailed synopses of Sailor Moon episodes, most of us would just think "Awwww, just like her idol Alizée, how sweet!" and leave it at that. :p

Possible, but almost as unlikely. Very few of us have the linguistic ability to notice subtle similarities--it's all just French to most of us. (And I tend to trust the discretion of those who might, anyway--I've always been very proud of how many good eggs there are, here. Lili seems to bring out the 'white knight' in most of us, anyway.)

You know, sometimes I wonder what's dvtq's real identity... ¬¬. An 8 years old boy posting so frequently (well he used to), and his posts didn't reflect his age... lol Im just kidding I guess :p. Matrix had that doubt too, and he couldn't figure out :p

Hmm, that's a good idea. There are plenty of guys here who don't speak english at all. I know it would not be just for Alizee's benefit, but if she doesn't even visit the french forums so frequently, (that's what I guess since she hasn't even noticed the message posted by Julien) I think she will barely try to learn french in an American forum :blink:. But it would be a good help for many of us though :D.

Didn´t know where to post this, but anyways, a mod on Alizee-Mexico said that he watched the video of 50/60 on VH1, I dunno if that VH1 is the special one for Mexico or if it was the same VH1 that is transmited on the US, but these are good news :)
Finally a vid of her is played on VH1 :cool:

I can't imagine that being the case Edgar, but I guess anything is possible. :blink: When we were in Mexico for the concert tour, Alizee was on MTV. I don't recall the other music channels, but it was very apparent that the channels we watched were not the same MTV-like channels as the US. Something to stay vigilent about on this side of the border though...;)

Hey, I'd take a job from Alizée. It's not like I have a whole going on over here at the moment! :rolleyes: And I do still think about moving to France to learn French. Ah, who knows? Maybe someday.

Wow, it's gotten pretty thick in this thread.

I'll just say, as has been said before, even if Alizée came on this forum swearing it was her, without some more incontrovertable proof probably not many would admit to believing it. I don't think she has anything to fear of being recognized if she didn't want to.

joining this thread late.. but what are the chances that she'll have a concert at, say, Chicago?

I can't imagine what it'll be like to walk around downtown and know that Alizee had walked those very streets.. :wub:

I mean, it is a major city, nothing like New York, but still a major tourist city. And much closer to me than New York!
