View Full Version : Alizée zeitgeist

Google has for some time now produced their zeitgeist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeitgeist)to indicate what people are searching for (http://www.google.com/press/zeitgeist.html). Recently, they introduced their "trends" site to allow more specific queries. Here is the entry for Alizée (http://www.google.com/trends?q=alizee%2C+Aliz%C3%A9e+&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all).... Seems we need to be doing more, since the search trends are not going up :( .... Alizée does seem to be incredibly popular in Mexico however :)

http://www.google.com/trends?q=Alizee%2C+alizée&ctab=0&geo=CA&date=all - this lists scarborough (where I lived most of my life) as a city, but it hasn't been a city for almost 7 years.. wtf? Same with Etobicoke.. They both became part of Toronto in 1999

Anyway, putting those two together puts Toronto at #1 in canada

Listing of US, UK, France, and Canada.. Alizee - blue, Alizée - red

lol good idea. the numbers will sky rocket if that actually happened

i could see this site being so popular, the whole country is covered in those dots and being just as big as jacksonville, LA, and mexico city that they cover the whole country. just how many visitors do you get from those cities?

Not bad response from areas around Seattle! I think when her third album releases we will get more visitors and hopefully more members too.

The big dot in Canada is Calgary, my hometown. I'm surprised so many hits came from here. Nobody I've introduced to her to has ever heard of her, but it's really good to hear there is an Alizee following here. Guess I'll just keep on spreadin' the good word.:D

I think it's interesting that the "Alizée" searches are so vastly underrepresented everywhere but France. [Alt+0233]! It's not that bad to type :D (Unless you have a laptop without a numberpad, in which case... uhm... good luck!)

What's that chart based on? is it just hits or specifically the amount of users?

also my mom's modern dell laptop has no numpad, but can stll get the e with accent. you use "Fn" key and press alt+jlm (j=1, l=3, m=0)

I'm in Fort Myers, Florida and tell everyone I know. It's not that we are not necessarily not telling enough people. It's more like they hear about who everyone likes and just play who they like anyway.

When the movie comes out and Moi-Lolita is heard, if enough people like the song, then they might start listening and searching for Alizée on their own, as now they will have discovered it on their own.

Most people I speak with mention who they are listening too to me and I overlook it unless they have the CD playing right then while talking with me. Even then, if I don't get into their taste in music, thats as far as it goes.

Would they not use a french keyboard layout in france? Meaning they only have to make one keystroke for the é rather than an alt-code.

aditya8617

I think they use similar keyborads like ours but with extra keys for their unique language sounds as well. Imagine trying to remember all the key combinations for each sound on our keyboard.

Yes of course. Here's the French keyboard (http://www.sew-lexicon.com/AZERTY%20keyboard.htm).

Note also the two highlighted keys on the pics (left to the "$" and the "£"). They are "^" and "¨" accents. For those ones, you have to type them first (nothing happens), then the vowel you want with one of these accents and you're done. For example: ô, ë.
Note 2: they forgot the euro sign (€) on these pics. It's on the "e" key, to be typed with Right-Alt.

You can also a buy French Canadian keyboard that has accents that work like the French keyboards but have all the other keys where they are on the US keyboard if you really hate using the Alt-Numpad...

[Alt+0233]? I use [Alt+130] saves a keystroke...

Hmm, I just did a search on Blogpulse for the trends, and there seems to have been a really big increase of searches (http://www.blogpulse.com/trend?query1=alizee&label1=&query2=Aliz%C3%A9e+&label2=&query3=&label3=&days=60&x=47&y=6) for Alizée in early November. Anyone know what that was about?

Hmm, maybe it's just a glitch, since Technorati shows no such trend:

Posts that contain <a href="http://technorati.com/search/Alizee">Alizee</a> per day for the last 30 days.<br /><a href="http://technorati.com/search/Alizee"><img src="http://technorati.com/chartimg/%28Alizee%29?totalHits=17298&size=s&days=30" style="border:0" alt="Technorati Chart" /></a>

Dunno for sure... But there sure has been some increase recently.

October 22nd, my site's traffic increased 30% in one day. And it has stayed on that new level since then (well, growing slowly, but I mean that the never was fall back to original trend). I still have no idea what caused such huge jump. Suddenly I just had 30% more visitors than normally.

The increase for my site has been stable since the beginning, so that jump in one day is very weird. Something obviously happened that bring us hundreds of new fans in one day.
