ORIGINAL POST HERE: http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/showpost.php?p=156271&postcount=259

Well I left for the airport Saturday around 3pm. It felt like I was driving above the road, not on it. A very surreal feeling. Couldn't believe I was on my way to Paris for a private meeting with Alizee. As you know, I'm an airline employee. When we travel, it's on a standby basis. If the planes full you dont fly. Well Air France has a way of checking how full their flights are that I didn't really trust. It showed the flight as being green, which is a good thing. Well I walked up to their ticket counter and the ticket agent said the flight was full. My heart sank. Couldn't believe it but I should have expected it because saturday is one of the worst days to fly on a standby basis. I was worried sick. I still had another day to get over there, but if a plane the next day had to cancel at the last moment, I'd be screwed because most trips for Paris leave around the same time. So you have to sit and wait in a case like this, wait and hope someone doesn't show up and as luck turns out, I made it. What an enormous sense of relief.

I arrived in Paris and reached my hotel a little after 9am. I headed for the Arc de triomphe, because I had never been to the top before. I went right past the Virgin record store around 9:45 and they were still closed, so I did some touring. Arc de triomphe, Hotel de Ville (city hall) where Alizee performed J'ai pas vingt ans during the 100th running of the Tour de France, Notre Dame, the Latin quarter where the University of Paris is, and a few other places. I stopped by a small record store near the Pompidou center which Roman introduced me to a couple of years ago that usually stocks some Alizee stuff, but they were closed as is the case with several businesses here on Sunday. They had a copy of an Alizee 50 60 rimex record in the window which means I'm sure they'll have some more of her stuff when I go back tomorrow.

The day here has been overcast with several periods of drizzle. Hopefully tomorrow it will be better, but it really doesn't matter. All that's going to matter is what's going on inside the Virgin record store.

I think I mentioned if not in the forum, at least to Ben, that my co-worker who cancelled out, before he found out about this private session and then re-instated himself afterwards, is trying to make it over. I probably should have told this guy to take a hike, but the thing is, having him there will mean an awful lot to me. It will give me a feeling of security, of confidence that otherwise I wouldn't have. A lot of the younger members here might think something like Alizee comes along on a regualar basis, but I can assure you that is not the case. She is something that happens only once in a lifetime if even that often, and to meet someone who has brought so much happiness, so much enjoyment on such a close basis is going to very tough emotionally. My co-workers, my family, I'm sure think there's something wrong with me, They see the skimpy outfits of the early years and think that's the big attraction. They don't have a clue. They cant understand that I love her for her voice, for the way she dances, for her physical beauty and for something that which anyone else has found out about her that has given her a chance and that is her tremendous inner beauty. So I hope he can make it. It will be a very emotional moment. I just hope nothing and no one else screws it up

I tried to upload some picture to image shack so I could post them here but they keep timing out.

P. s. Please let Jalen know he's in.

I made a new thread... Pretty important stuff if you ask me... Just thought it deserved its own thread - MODS - if not, please move/erase or do whatever you think is appropriate!

Alizée may be as nervous about this meeting as you are Scruffy. I think you're both going to do just fine. :) And anyways, she is a pro at this kind of thing. I think she'll know just what to do to put you more at ease. You're in good hands. Enjoy it !

Scruffy put his finger on it. Many of you younger members probably wonder why us older guys are so into Alizée? She is something very special that most people will never realize what they are missing out on.

The very first time I saw her in La Isla Bonita, with in 60 or so seconds I was saying to myself OMG "Who is this Girl". This is probably why 98% of all the people on her fan boards are guys. Women don't get Alizée, and they don't get why some guys are so absolutely nuts over her.

That is because Alizée is not the type of women they are lead to believe is the type of woman men are supposedly attracted to.

Whoa! Great news for y'all. I am actually living (studying) in Paris right now, so if Mr Scruffydog needs help (with touring, eating, travelling, finding souvenirs, speaking French, etc) lemme know. Otherwise I will be going to the signing, waiting the old-fashioned way I guess, so if you can grace me with the time, I'd like to say bonsoir to you.
In any case, bon courage!

Well, I am 23 and I still feel the same about her. Had I only been attracted to her physical beauty, I would not have waited eagerly for her comeback. But there is something more, something special about her that I can not explain :wub::wub:

Yes I invited this young man to join us though I don't know yet if Virgin will allow it.

My co-worker wont be able to make it due to flight availability. I wont let that bother me. This is the opportunity of a lifetme and I"m determined to make the best of it.

It's been a very long day, after a couple of very long weeks. Tomorrow is show time. I stopped in a church earlier. Notre Dame had a long line in front of it so I didn't go there, but I stopped in at the church of Saint Genevieve, the patron saint of Paris who saved the city from the barbarians, and asked the man above that things would go well tomorrow. I've done everything I can do. Hopefully things will go well for us.

Being an old warhorse myself i agree with most of what you said, but i disagree with the part "Women don't get Alizée".
This is not true, i know some very Lili addicted girls, and in fact half of the french forums consist of women.
Ofc, her being a beautiful woman will always attract mostly men, but i think her magic works for females too.
It's for the same reason that many guys fall for her, she has some kind of inner beauty that is more than just being "sexy".
I guess it can be felt on a general human level, regardless of gender.

Good luck scruffy! Were all with you. Have the time of your life. I can't wait to hear what happens. She is so talented and such an amazing human being, would leave me probally speechless to be in her presence. I first saw her on youtube an immediately bought Alizee en concert. It may sound strange but I found her through the advice of my doctor who was helping me get off depression medication. I no longer take the medication and If I'm not feeling right I just put on the DVD or come on this site and I feel like life is worth living. Good luck buddy!

You're probably right, I don't hang out on the European forums. I have only the English speaking Forums to go by, and those forums are 95 percent plus male.

Scruffy she is just another women who just happens to be famous.

This is what it looks like...so if someone doesn't pay their end of the deal, then we shall go find them and hogtie them in a dark room and put Lilly's Abracadabra on repeat. but I thought the CD's were going to be more like 10-15 euros...hmmm

Heheheheheheheh.... I *know*, one part of me would be very nervous... Another part of me would be:

1. Meet/Greet...
2. Present "Letter"
3. Get disks signed
4. 5 mins small talk
5. photo op
6. good bye...

I would be aware of what I had to do, and that this person I'm meeting is just another human being, about to go out and sign her name for 4 hours...

Yeah, I'de be nervous, but I would hope I would have my head on enough to not make her afternoon longer! :D

Can't wait to hear your experiences Scruff

Make sure you bring the money, a form of identification for no reason, any information that came in the mail from them, don't forget to leave at least 30mins before the signing, don't forget the list! So yah although you will be focused on not being nervous and focusing on how much you will enjoy yourself, you will need to come back down to earth for a bit before you head over to the signing. He'll become the new Roman! :D (Just kidding. :P)

I can not wait to get word on how this went. This a perfect example of a dream come true for any fan of any artist. xD

Scruffydog is a big boy. I'm sure he has a credit card. :P
Buying the albums will not be a problem. We all had them well ahead of time since they were on sale as soon as we got into the store if I recall. But also while we were waiting in line, they came around to make sure everyone had "something" (ie. had purchased the new album) to have signed. They won't let you forget! :) Of course, yeah, he won't be in line; so, I'm sure he has something figured out.

That's an interesting thought. The security will surely meet with him long before the event if he's to meet her a half hour before... Dang! It's like now I want to be there more than I otherwise would because Scruffy got this chance that I had wanted so many times before. TOO JEALOUS of that!

It's totally not about worrying that Alizée might not be nice. It's just about emotionally handling something so strange as meeting an idol. He will be so happy to be there and have such a rare chance. But, I'm sure he'll be fine even if a little tongue tied. My fear is that if I were to meet Alizée, even if I can sort of talk a little French, that I would forget how or otherwise have nothing to say. What an imbecile. Then I'd make Alizée nervous. But believe me, Alizée is not going to be nervous about it. I can't see why she'd be nervous about meeting one of us. She has so many times dealt with so much more.

That's gonna be pretty darn cool to stand there and watch her sign 50 albums in any case. Have her write "Pour Roman Thanks you biz Alizée" again. :D Nah, something new. How about "Pour Roman Mille Cours Alizée"? Ah no! Have that too. :P

It's about 10 am local time. I do know about the time change, thanks to those who reminded me.

I plan on getting to the store at 4 pm. Not a minute later. I wll first try to meet up with the Virgin representative to make sure all is as planned. Once I do this, I will then purchase the cd's. I don't want to buy them first, then walk up to the manager and have him say "Who the hell are you?". I imagine I will have go to the regualar sales line unless they have something already set up. I called my credit card company to inform them that a large charge was going to be put on my credit card today to make sure they don't block it as is the case sometimes with foreign transactions.

I will get everything together this morning and finalize my preparations such as making sure my camera and camcorder batteries are fully charged. Then I will go out and do a little bit of sight seeing though I'm sure I wont be able to focus on what ever I'm looking at. I'll probably make one last post before I go. The butterflies are already gathering in my stomach.

One thing I wanted to mention about the open letter. I thought that second page with the signatures might give her the impression that this is all the members we have. I will point out to who ever is there that this forum has over 2,000 members. How many are active, I don't know but that doesn't really matter. Maybe I'll say that these were the ones who helped put the letter together. That takes credit away from the people who did such a great job with it and deserve credit, but in this case I think, I'll have to make best use of the time at hand with out going into a whole lot of detail.

You might also want to nonchalantly slip in that there are MANY more people who simply do not register. I came by this site and took advantage of the video and gallery pages, and didn't register until many months later (I believe for the sole purpose of asking one, measly question :) )

This is a VERY good point. It's not unusual for the number of unregistered guests browsing the forums to outnumber registered users by 5 or 6 to 1 at any given time. A lot more people are browsing the site on a regular basis than our membership numbers indicate.

Well, they're not necessarily ALL from the States, but yeah...if you look at it in concert (heh) with the surprising number of views the Les Collines video received on YouTube from the USA and Canada, it certainly does appear as though there's a "silent majority" thing going on. At the very least, there's an awful lot of people curious about Alizée, even if they aren't "hardcore" enough to sign up...

The forecast for today wasn't good but the overcast is starting to break and the sun is shining through, a good omen.

I don't know if they might have the cd's ready for me or not. I will check with the manager beforehand.

A lot more people are browsing the site on a regular basis than our membership numbers indicate.

It does not hurt to be succinctly redundant, and cheer the Corsican girl with good news. But also remember that Alizée's label is Jive Epic/Sony Music.

Parent company Sony is one of the most sophisticated engineering companies in the world. Last year, on average, it was awarded almost 5 US patents per day (barely edged out of 6th place), which is more than either US-founded Intel or Hewlett-Packard managed to rack up. The very form which the Compact Disc uses was defined by Sony and Philips.

So it sure would be ironic if Sony Music were clueless about stuff like Web auditing data, including the traffic estimates published for Alizée America, like the free matter below from Alexa.

Heh. Not to burst anyone's bubble, but if you genuinely believe that Sony Music keeps their artists regularly apprised of web traffic stats for fan sites based in countries they're not even marketing to, I'd like to know what colour the sky is in your world. While I certainly don't doubt they have the ability, I tend to think they have bigger fish to fry. ;)

So no, I don't think it would hurt to risk a little "succinct redundancy" and fill Alizée in. Your mileage may vary, of course. :p

I can't ever dig make-up, whether on Her Grace and Beauty or Boy George or anybody.

To me, true sexy is when you can look blood-boilingly sexy in the face you woke up in.

Edit:

P.S.

I find it ironic that my school's computer network thing blocks any and all pictures of Alizée, but presents Plaz's avatar nice and clear on this 20 inch screen.

two buzzkill observations

1. Why is that guy using a flash mount for his Nikon SB-600 and a sync cord when his camera (as well as all others) quite obviously sports a hotshoe? it's just more weight!

2. I wonder why Papa Jo hasn't popped up in any of the photos yet as he has the previous album release.

Scruffy is probably out sightseeing like he said he was going to do after the signing. Let him enjoy his visit to Paris. Most likely there isn't anything momentous to report (he went there, he exchanged a few words with Alizée as best he could, she signed 50 albums in a blur of motion, he said thanks and left). As long as we hear from him by tomorrow, there's no reason to look for explanations.

Well the autographs session went well but there were a few small problems.
I arrived right around 4 pm. I thought there might be a problem once I looked around. I said I'd be wearing black slacks, black shirt and maybe a black coat. Well this described about 90% of the guys who were there. But not to worry, Aron found me first, followed soon after by the others. These were 3 great guys, very well mannered, I was very happy that they were there representing different age groups.

I went to talk to an employee to ask for one of the managers mentioned in our e-mail. Neither one of them were there. We finally talked to someone who some what knew what was going on and he told us to go down stairs to reception. We went downstairs and I talked to the guy behind the counter and he didn't seem to have a clue as to what I was talking about. This is where Mark being there was really a god send. He explained in French what was going on and soon afterwards we had someone with us connected with what was going on back stage.

He told us to give him a call at 5:15 and then he'd meet back up with us. We went upstairs, where I bought my discs. We then went downstairs to unwrap them. 5:15 arrived and I saw Mark making several attempts to call the gentleman we met before but with no success. I thought this will truely s*** if we lose out on this opportunity because we cant reach him by phone. But a couple of minutes later, this gentleman came walking around the corner and scooped us up. We went up stairs and he asked me if I had the receipt for all the cd's I had. To my horror, I couldn't find it. When were unpacking all the cd's I had, we threw out the original bags they came in. I searched franticly for the bags I had thrown out. Could only find one of them. Several minutes went by, with thoughts of this going to cost us this great opportunity, but in the end, he said forget about it.

So we went for a long walk, through several doors, up an elevator, down a long corridor and we finally entered a room and there she was. I wasn't expecting her to be there already she was right there in front of us. With all the people that were in there, she stood out like a beacon in the night. She shook hands with all of us and then we took up positions around the table.

This was unexpected, at least by me. I thought we'd all be in a room and suddenly she would enter, but such was not the case. It caught me way off guard. We asked if we could take pictures and they said okay. There was a film crew there from M6 who pretty much filmed everything.

I had problems with the camcorder I borrowed from my brother. I would set it up on a mini tripod and when left un-attended, would start zooming in by itself to a point where the image was unviewable. That wasn't too great a problem. We were there for numerous minutes and I did get in several good video clips. I just wont have the video of her signing every cd as some people hoped.

I presented her with the open letter and she looked carefully at it but didn't read it fully. A comment was made about the signatures which I mistakenly said yes to in which I wasn't sure of but thought afterwards they might be asking how many fans were in the forum and I quickly said something to the affect that we have 2000 members.

I thought this was going to be a tough time for me. But because she was there when we got there. Because I was having problems with my camcorder, I really didn't have time to think about the whole thing. Well then the people from M6 started interviewing me. Which had an affect on my video efforts, but also got me to thinking about the subject at hand, Alizee. It was a tough moment to get through. Maybe you will all get to see it on an M6 video, though I could do with out it.

I presented Alizee with a couple of small gifts. A t shirt that says Boston loves ya, and an Alizee America hat. I asked her twice to put it on, but she checked I guess with her make up artist and they said no, said they'd do it later, but I kind of doubt it because so many other fans give her gifts.

After all the cd's were signed, we each took a picture with her and then we had to leave.
We went downstairs and filmed and photographed her at several times during this.

We all went out for a couple of drinks afterwards. Met Marks wife. She's as wonderful a person as Mark is. We Toasted Alizee at one point then went our seperate ways. It would be nice to meet up with all of them again.

I tried transferring the movies from my brothers camera to my laptop tonight so I could up load them, but I had no success. I even tried downloading a couple of programs that should have helped out but with no luck. So these videos will probably have to wait until I get home.
As for the cd's. I will be treating them like egg sheells when I fly home tomorrow

Great story Scruffy ! Thank you for your efforts and I'm glad you got to meet her and everything worked out OK.

Your video is already posted on Lillytown France. The poster informed everyone that the American fans sent a delegation to the autograph session and got fifty albums signed. He also said that the staff of Alizée has wisely chosen this opportunity to film the operation by the TV! And he also said there was no better demonstration of credibility than dozens of albums being signed for her American fans."

Scruffy, I just have to say you are a great man for taking on this great responsibility. It seems you had some problems and started to worry about it, but don't worry about all that in the end. It seems you had a great time and it is definitely a moment you will remember for the rest of your life. Remember, nothing would have really gone as you had planned(Alizée being in the room already, her not being able to put on the hat, etc.) But the point is is that you had the greatest and enjoyable time of your life with the good company you were in. You did a great job and all of us thank you so much for prevailing through the tough times you had to go through by having to get there. You did a great job and rest up man, don't think about what you should have and shouldn't have done, it will just tear you apart. So enjoy the memory while it is very vivid. Thanks Scruff for going through all this and we hope to see you back in the states safe and sound:)

Would that be Mark and Amber, or am I thinking of someone else? If so, how are they? I didn't know he'd be there, and haven't seen them in ages! So glad to hear that everything worked out for you Scruffy, after those few days of chaos when we first heard about this! Wish I could have been there too, but it was just too short notice this time! :)

Just a small side note. There were 2 people there during the regular signing interviewing different people. Well I'm usually a very camera shy type of person, but I jumped right out in front of these 2 with my bag of 50 autographed cd's and went after them, because I thought this would be another great opportunity to spread the word of AA. Well they intereviewed me and afterwards interviewed Mark. Later on, at the end of the autograph session, they inteviewed Alizee. They said what they decide to post will be available on the net wednesday on konbini.com.

Edit:

Yes, he knows you well. They are doing great and speak highly of you.

AMAZING. Way to go Scruff! You're the man!

Great story and thanks for all your efforts. You've spent a lot of time and effort in this epic adventure. You completed an amazing and important task and did a great job. I'm glad you got to meet one of the most amazing people the world has to offer. This epic journey had to have taken some bravery and so much more to complete. Just reading your post fills me with all kinds of emotions as I place myself in your shoes. I can only imagine how you felt (and feel) at the time. I can only hope to experience what you have today. This has most likely been a physically and emotionally draining day for you. So I wish you good nights rest. And get back here safe! :D

Once again, thanks for all your efforts on this very important day.

Oh. My. I don't even freaking know. Scruff, I have been waiting all day to post, because I wanted to save my 200th as a thank you to you. Finally, I can. Your description was amazing. Alizée is probably going to read this at some point, and I think she would love it! Your problems were miniscule, compared to the feeling I got from reading this. I feel so elated! Beyond anything, including my first time hearing her voice, which was during the refrain of J'en Ai Marre ! The video on youtube was great! I have wathced it already 5 or 6 timed! You deserved this! You must treasure this moment the rest of youf life! I actually feel as though I was there, it was vicarious in the coolest way! I could see every moment playing through my head, more realisticallythan any book! I felt as though Alizée were in my own living room! Thanks are in order, more than I have ever thanked anyone! To you! To Ben! To Docdtv! To Virgin! To Institubes! To everyone who joined you! To the epic, amazing, captivating, mindblowing, talented, beautiful, super, masterful, hypnotizing, heartstopping, magically perfect ALIZÉE! But most of all, thanks go to all the members of this forum who truely support Alizée, that keep this place from falling dead, that actually care for her, that love her music, that feel meeting her would be the best and worst minute of their life, best for the obvous reasons; worst because you know it's going to end! But the best part so outways the worst part! That you were even able to shake her hand is amazing! If I did have that chance, I would refuse, because I know that I could never deserve it! But you do! And you should remember this anytime you are unhappy! I feel so bad that there is no way I could donate to this site anytime soon... I would love to help, but it's not in the cards for me now. But I hope eventually to actually become some sort of staff for the site. Anyways, thanks, congrats, and this, my 200th post is dedicated to you, Ben, Doc, Alizée Jacotey, but most of all, to AlizéeAmerica! Let's keep going!

Also, totally. That time when we met with Mark at the Japanese restaurant and he told us some stories of the old days... that was the kind of thing we wish for too--the ability to share the experience.

I must also congratulate Scruffy. I missed the part about who exactly and how they found out about Scruff and made the meeting, but I'm under the impression that it is just because Scruffy made such a big deal of this, prepared the letter, tried to accommodate getting so many people's signatures, etc. that this meeting even came into existence. So, whatever you did or didn't do Scruffy, it seems you were integral in making this happen at all.

I think to only way to describe the way I felt for a few seconds reading Scruffy's post is

FUCKIN HEAD 'SPLOSION

Scruff, did you happen to make physical contact with her earthly shell? If so, that means you're a candidate. ;)

I gotta say, I had quite a feeling of relief seeing that she was signing the booklets.

----

I think an interesting challenge just arose for we lucky 50 (move over Oceanic 6, watch out for Alizée America 50!).

If any of the 50 so happened to pre-order the box set, and just so happens to get a signed polaroid.... They will instantly become cooler than Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee, and Keyboard Cat combined!

(which is still 9.13x10-4135612 times less cooler than Alizée for doing this whole thing in the first place)

It's really nice to see all the enthusiasm from you guys.
You know, we were planning to be silent about the entire thing until April 1, then tell you the whole thing was cancelled as an April Fool's joke. But that would have been very mean.
It truly was a very special moment. I confirm the young guy with short hair from the video and pictures is me. I still can't believe my luck of being at the right place at the right time. I am pleased to have met David, Mark, and Fernando. And most of all, I am ecstatic to have met Alizee! I confess I was trembling through the entire 30 minutes.
Somebody (Fernando) please post the private pictures we took with Alizee. I will post my own pictures as soon as possible.
I sincerely thank everyone who made this unforgettable event possible.

Anyways, you were damn lucky my friend. I am too happy and envious of you :)

We sincerely thank YOU, Aron! Great job! Most of us would have just passed out.

Let me also add that we're all dying to hear anything else you have to say about your visit!

But for now, most of America is sound asleep, and I'm about to go there too.

I'm glad you guys had an awesome time, I also want to say that I'm forever indebted to you. Reading your posts, and the other posts, I got such a good feeling, I can't seem to be able to describe it. All I know is that I'm honored to be part of such a wonderful group of fans such as yourselves. Now all we need is to have that AAm barbecue party Jalen dreamed of, to celebrate and open all our packages :D After that, well, we'll see how we can top that...

Again, and again, and a million times more, thank you guys so much, everybody.

Oh the joys of being an airline employee and flying standby. I wasn't able to make the 1:30pm local time flight out of Paris. It was a long wait after that just to get my bag back so I could go check on other flights. I'm now going to catch a 7:30 flight to jfk. I might not make back in time to get to Boston where I'm supposed to work tonight. Work isn't a problem, I usually give them a good nights work so there pretty forgiving when something like this comes up. The loss of pay will hurt, but it will be well worht it for what went on here. They have an employee lounge at jfk where I can spend the night if I have to.

I'm keeping the bag of cd's close by. Anyone who comes near them, I start barking at them.

I just kind want to rehash about something during the interview. Like I said, I thought we'd be all set up beforehand with our cameras and stuff before Lilly came in. Because of it, I was pre-occupied with the so many other things. Having problems with the camcorder, couldn't find my tripod, I had problems with my camear too. Switching back and forth between the two. Waiting for the right moment to give Alizee the open letter.

Then the camera crew came over to me to start interviewing me. I kind of wish they hadn't because I could hardly think straight. I hate that type of limelight. But then they started asking q uestions, asking questions like why do you like Alizee so much. Which made me start thinking about her and all she's meant to me. I started looking across the table and looking at her in the way I should be looking at her. Looking at her knowing how finding out about her meant to me. Like I said it was a tough moment but if they hadn't come over, I would have just been pre-occupied with taking pictures, presenting gifts and what have you, getting the other members in the video. I wouldn't have really appreciated the moment of why I was there in the first place. It would hav been over before I knew it. So there interviewing me, as much as I didn't like it was a blessing in disguise.

Another bit of your amazing experience, I enjoyed all those you told and one again it was like that. Although it's hard to imagine about such experiences unless you have them, but still reading it thrills me. Sir, you have a great job and congratulations for your successful meeting. You achieved more than what was expected.

It's good that being an aircraft mechanic helps you a lot in travels.

Well why do like Alizée is, I guess, a very difficult thing to answer. I can understand it because I have been asked the same question many times. Is she the best singer or most beautiful woman? Well the question cannot be answered with that. She's more than just a singer or a beauty. Interview made you think about it and that too in front of her. I don't what I have felt at that moment. Maybe her whole life that I know would have come into my mind. Did anything like that happen to you?

The reason she is so special is that she would do something like this half-hour thing just for her fans from the U.S. It's not that she's a beautiful woman (beautiful women are not in short supply). It's not that she has a lovely voice -- it's good, but there are more impressive voices out there. It's who she is. It's making a connection to a splendid heart.

I totally agree with your view. When a person discovers her, it is because of her beauty and voice, but when someone becomes a fan of her, it's because of knowing that who she is. Her personality, that is so strong, that no one can remain unaffected by it.

Yes, I try to point this out to everyone! What other singer sets up a private meeting with a handful of fans to sign 50 discs for fans in a country where her music is not even released? Who, I ask you? NO ONE, I SAY, NO ONE! How could anybody not respect that! That is pureness of heart, character, and no other celebrity has that! This is ahh... I get shivers just thinking about it! Let's all thank Alizée, for being (and this is where I disagree with the mystical deepwaters) the most amazingly voiced, talented, and perfectly charactered person on EARTH!

<center><big><big>Digital Business Intelligence Today</big></big></center>

My friend Ruroshen <a href="http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/showpost.php?p=156413&postcount=64">expressed</a> skepticism that the Alizée staff knew about the <a href="http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/showpost.php?p=156393&postcount=59">traffic volume</a> at our Web site prior to our recent approach to them, and will explain below why I disagree with him. I begin by explaining how routinely data about consumers is now used to sell the most banal, low-margin items.

There has been a revolution in predicting consumer behavior as the cost of computing has plummeted in recent decades. The economic advantage of doing just that has driven it. And it hardly required the arrival of the mass-market Internet to get going. Learn more by reading a 2003 <a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/04/25/60II/main551177.shtml">report</a> by US <i>CBS News</i>, which includes a profile of consumer demographics firm InfoUSA, founded way back in 1972. It reports in part:
<blockquote><i>Here’s how it works. The nation’s big banks no longer just do banking... once you’ve done business with any of [their subsidiary] firms, your financial information is distributed to the rest of their affiliates... Citigroup, for instance, owns more than 1,500 different companies, all of which can use your financial information to market their products.</i></blockquote>
The ease of profiling you is exemplified by similar government activities. Long before we were told there was some security crisis that necessitated massive abrogations of privacy, the very ability to cheaply aggregate personal information led to such activity - even by nations which are not historically inclined to imagine they are anointed guardians of virtue whose mission is to subdue the world.

In early 2000, the office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada <a href="http://www.priv.gc.ca/media/nr-c/archive/02_05_b_000516_e.cfm">said</a>:

<blockquote><i>Canadians should be concerned about the existence of a de facto citizen profile containing as many as 2,000 pieces of information about each of more than 30 million Canadians... Successive Privacy Commissioners have assured Canadians that there was no single federal government file, or profile about them. We were wrong...</i></blockquote>
But don't think every use of such information is sinister. Once you know where people are and what they want or like, you get a much better idea of what they MIGHT want or like. This helps you reduce the expensive errors you hazard in siting a new highway, store or other speculative project.

And of course retailers use their own sales records all the time to decide what new merchandise to put on their shelves, how much space it should have and how it should be priced. For example, Wal-Mart reported in 2004 that it maintains 460 terabytes of data. That's about 80 kilobytes for every person on this planet, or about 1.5 megabytes for every person in the United States. A typical lengthy textual e-mail note might be 2 kilobytes in size. You can read how such data is exploited in a New York Times article <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/14/business/yourmoney/14wal.html?_r=1">here</a>.

In doing fund-raising for small-town backwoods philanthropy, I've purchased customized mailing lists of local people from the types of massive databases discussed above, specifying particular germane demographics. One address costs about as much as the stamp on the solicitation letter you post to it. Doing this lets you raise as much money with a tiny fraction of the letters you'd need if you mailed to everyone in your target area.

Now on to the Corsican girl.

<center><big><big>Team Alizée Business Intelligence</big></big></center>

Alizée's fans are skewed young, which means they are avid Internet users. In the old days it was very hard to divine what your fans were thinking, because you could not read minds. Fan clubs existed, but fan newsletters were expensive to produce and distribute and so they were rare things. Even fan letters were much tougher to knock out than e-mail. Now it seems every other person has a MySpace page or a blog and they blab away the most intimate things at will. Because of automation, it is also incredibly cheap to audit all this stuff with machines. Google makes a fortune doing it.

There is not the slightest doubt in my mind that the Alizée staff watches the response to the stuff like Web pages, photos, videos, tweets and the like she publishes on the Internet. This includes demographic analysis of all sorts.

I also cannot believe they do not follow the major trends of third-party online publications which are about the Corsican girl, like the view counts of pirated videos on YouTube, and the traffic on all nontrivial fan sites. No doubt this was especially true during the early stages of the comeback.

That's not to say they see every sparrow fall, or even many. But when they recently offered the <i>coffret deluxe</i> product, don't you think they took the time to stick the string:

+"coffret deluxe" +Alizée

into the Google search engine to try to anticipate demand? When I do that now, I get a measly 590 hits. You may recognize the fifth search hit, a Web page at Alizée America titled <a href="http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/showthread.php?p=152308"><i>Poll: Are you preordering Une Enfant Du Siècle?</i></a>

So even if you stipulate there was no knowledge of Alizée America before then, the metered response of fans to this high-priced product offer, related to a few thousand dollars of purchases during the Great Recession, surely got some attention.

Of course fans are not the only people who purchase goods, but they are probably the best caged canaries you can measure. And modern pollsters are interested in more than just raw numbers. The "focus group" exists for just that reason, to examine anecdotally the "why" behind preference patterns. Fan site postings provide an inexpensive source of such data to mine for these ends.

Again, I am not a marketing professional, so I cannot tell you what role fan response plays in sustaining an artistic career. But even the pros are on new ground now because of the MANY changes being made to the business because of the widespread use of digital technology. A few years ago people would laugh at how the promise of the Internet was supposed to have threatened traditional publishing. But now, all of a sudden, these same people are not laughing, and some are crying. And this is only the beginning of potential changes.

Okay, that's enough about Internet marketing. Now I'd like to say a few things about the run-up to Scruffy's Paris trip.

<center><big><big>Coordination at Alizée America</big></big></center>

While I have been an enraptured Alizée fan since encountering her work in early 2006, I have only followed the Alizée America Web site for a few months, starting not long before I registered as a member, for the purpose of posting a link to some fan art I created in spring 2009. I have limited my participation to (asynchronous) forum posts and the Ventrillo live-blogging conference only, until very recent days, when at last I enabled private messaging because of the urgency of events.

One thing I noticed soon enough was that Ben was thinking about selling the site. I got the impression it was becoming too much of a burden to run, and in recent weeks his postings seem to allude to preoccupation with things like Real Life! He has always responded to my postings in some thread in a kind way, so in no way do I feel snubbed by him, which I wanted to note before saying more.

I missed the part about who exactly and how they
found out about Scruff and made the meeting...
Thanks Ben for your part in all of this. Did
you know that doc had contacted Virgin before you got this notice?
No, I didn't! So you can bet I had quite the
double-take when I got that first email! As I'm sure Scruffy did too
when I told him! The past five days have been quite surreal. I can
only imagine what it must be like for Scruff!
...To the best of my knowledge, here's the short version of how it went down:

-Docdtv contacts the Virgin Megastore about an ambassador from Alizée America coming to the autograph session.
-Virgin staff thinks this is a a great idea, contacts Sony.
-Sony/Alizée/her team think it would be good to meet this ambassador and sign 50 CDs. They tell Virgin.
-Virgin writes back to Docdtv with the good news.
-When he doesn't respond for a few days, they also contact me (last Thursday).
-I pass it on to Scruffy, and the three of us scramble to finalize the arrangements. ;)

Yes, that is my brief account as well. You should know that my original note provided Virgin with my telephone number, as dialed from France. I checked the relevant e-mail account for their reply for two days and then relented for a week, knowing they could phone me in an emergency. My answering machine never recorded a call from them. I picked up their e-mail late last Thursday.

Please note, as simple fact, that of the <a href="http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/converse.php?u=17&u2=2861">four Visitor Messages</a> I have sent Ben to date, he has responded only to the last one. I did not expect him to reply to my messages, based on this experience. That's why both when I <a href="http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/showpost.php?p=154745&postcount=81">reported</a> e-mailing Virgin on the 15th, and when I finally <a href="http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/showpost.php?p=155926&postcount=164">read</a> their delayed reply, I posted full notice of what was going on directly into the FORUM thread called <a href="http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5447"><i>[2010-03-29] Alizée autograph signing at Virgin Champs-Elysées</i></a> in the hope that Scruffy, as well as whomever in authority was auditing the thread (like Ruroshen or Brad or even Ben) would read about what I was doing. I didn't think I was being clandestine about anything!

Again, here was the <a href="http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/showpost.php?p=155938&postcount=203">strategy</a> driving my original inquiry:

1. I gave the Virgin store an INCENTIVE (many more sales) to be interested.
2. I gave Jive Epic/Sony Music an INCENTIVE to cooperate by documenting the NEW importance (10% Web hits) of the potentially HUGE American market.
3. I was COURTEOUS by writing in the best French I could manage.
4. I wrote EARLY enough for them to act. (Although my reply monitoring...)
5. I documented our SINCERITY by pointing at the germane discussion thread.
6. I made a SPECIFIC request, viz. What is the quota on disk signing?
7. I SPUN the PR-angle by saying we're sending an Ambassador, not a 'dog.

<center><big><big>Translator and "Honorary Consul"</big></big></center>

Early Saturday morning I Private Messaged Scruffy, Ben and Ruroshen for the third time about the signing on Monday evening, suggesting that it would be useful if Scruffy could recruit a Parisian member of Alizée America to serve as his translator, given his limited command of French. I further noted that should the Alizée team find some use for us, it would be most helpful if one of our French national members served as a liason there, with this event being a good time to introduce such a person.

It turned out this wasn't bad advice, even if my particular nominee was not tapped:

We went downstairs and I talked to the guy behind the counter and he didn't seem to have a clue as to what I was talking about. This is where Mark being there was really a god send. He explained in French what was going on and soon afterwards we had someone with us connected with what was going on back stage.

<center><big><big>Television & Video</big></big></center>

The other week I had <a href="http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/showpost.php?p=154896&postcount=103">anticipated</a> that French TV might be there, and encouraged Scruffy to try to leverage it, writing this:<blockquote><i>Thanks for the applause for the 'ambassador' idea, guys. Scruff, I don't think it would be THAT weird if you DID put on a tux with tails and a sash... Should French TV shoot there, they might even feature you in any short clip they produce and air. In any case, were I Alizée, I suspect I would not be so jaded yet that I would not react with some kindly amusement at the gesture. And as a visual mnemonic, it would also make it harder for her to forget the Open Letter which will get stashed in a bag with a bunch of other stuff.</i></blockquote>
...Well then the people from M6 started interviewing me ...Maybe you will all get to see it on an M6 video, though I could do with out it.

...There were 2 people there during the regular signing interviewing different people. Well I'm usually a very camera shy type of person, but I jumped right out in front of these 2 with my bag of 50 autographed cd's and went after them, because I thought this would be another great opportunity to spread the word of AA. Well they intereviewed me and afterwards interviewed Mark. Later on, at the end of the autograph session, they interviewed Alizee. They said what they decide to post will be available on the net wednesday on konbini.com...

Did anyone get the Corsican girl on video to say what I had suggested, <a href="http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/showpost.php?p=154212&postcount=10">
"Un millier de baisers, Alizée America!"</a>?

<center><big><big>Health Issues</big></big></center>

...I wasn't expecting [Alizée] to be there
already she was right there in front of us. With all the people that were in there, she stood out like a beacon in the night. She shook hands with all of us and then we took up positions around the table...

I have never been a celebrity accosted by crowds of fans. But some years ago I ran a street fair which required that I touch the hand of a couple hundred people strange to me three times. I had never done anything like that before. Immediately after the fair I became sicker than I had been in decades and stayed that way for an extended spell. Lack of certain causative proof notwithstanding, I vowed never again to touch so many strange hands! Every time I watch <i>En Concert</i> and see Alizée high-fiving so many of her fans I want to say: "No, don't..."

I suppose she has a better constitution than I do, perhaps on account of age, and could tolerate the risks of such intimacy. (Or maybe performers who touch so many fans get penicillin shots right after the show!) All the same, it is very nice when someone is willing to risk touching hands with you, and I hope Scruffy and his fortunate companions are grateful for the chance to shake hands with the Corsican girl and her crew! Jalen, don't be envious! Remember, that's the same hand Alizée uses to touch Jérémy, and I won't say how! :p

<center><big><big>Thanks to Our Founder, Brad</big></big></center>

THIS IS SO AWESOME GUYS!

way back when i started this website, this was my ultimate goal all
along. seeing her sitting there with an 'alizee america' hat is so
satisfying to me i can't even put it into words :D

Thank you for your vision, hard work and faith, Brad. As they say, chance favors those who are prepared!

<center><big><big>Thanks to Scruffy</big></big></center>

Needless to say, we wouldn't be talking about ANY of this had Scruffy not made the effort to go to Paris and tell us about his plans in advance! I am a bit surprised none of our European members expressed interest in showing the early initiative he did, especially with regard to aggregating disk orders, without which the private session could NEVER have taken place. But I suppose it was the best thing for the potential PR effect that an American national crossed the ocean to pay homage to Alizée's American-themed album in Paris.

There were even some tense moments ahead of time, because Scruffy didn't know if the US government could give him a new passport in time. I recall it only arrived about 11 March, a mere four days before I got the idea to write the Virgin Megastore. I am delighted with the success Scruffy has made of the trip, despite all the opportunities for mishap. He is truly our Neil Armstrong! The only thing that could make us happier is if the moon maiden and her crew found a way for Alizée America to fulfill the promise made in the Open Letter Chuck led us to create. Time will tell.

What do you think?
The pics look great Aron, thanks for sharing them. The antlers one made me laugh, and the one with her incredible smile behind you is great. That was a lot of albums you guys bought, they must have thought you were crazy, or maybe trying to rob them lol

One thing I noticed soon enough was that Ben was thinking about selling the site. I got the impression it was becoming too much of a burden to run, and in recent weeks his postings seem to allude to preoccupation with things like Real Life!

Please note, as simple fact, that of the <a href="http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/converse.php?u=17&u2=2861">four Visitor Messages</a> I have sent Ben to date, he has responded only to the last one. I did not expect him to reply to my messages, based on this experience.
I don't intend to run this site for the rest of my (or its) life, but have no plans of selling in the immediate future, Docdtv. And while I haven't had time to respond to all of your messages, we have been considering each of them. There's a whole thread in the staff section discussing a "best-of" thread, for example, and I do need to update our twitter graphics. So please keep sending and suggesting, I hope to add more staff soon to take care of such things! But in the meantime, today was spent updating the homepage (http://alizeeamerica.com). ;)

As others also suggested, I think you should also add Lilly's "hello" video when Scruffy and the others upload it. You've been doing an awesome job! :)

Great Job keeping up on updating Ben:D

And Aron I loved your pictures with her!!!
But did anyone notice how (maybe it is just the location of this particular Virgin Store), but it seemed like there wasn't as much media and fans this time. Although there was still a very healthy amount:D It can be seen on Aron's pic:
http://i44.tinypic.com/2b65fs.jpg

Deepwaters: The reason she is so special is that she would do something like this half-hour thing just for her fans from the U.S. It's not that she's a beautiful woman (beautiful women are not in short supply). It's not that she has a lovely voice -- it's good, but there are more impressive voices out there. It's who she is. It's making a connection to a splendid heart.

I know! but when I say that to people t they think that I am a stalker/obsessed person to know that she is a great person, but you can actually start to know Alizee since she doesn't have all the annoying media around her like stars in the U.S. have...She is a great person over all and I wish people that say I'm obsessed took the time to actually figure out the their favorite stars'/celebrities' personalities. And they wont find Alizee's amazingness, thats for sure:D

And Scruff, keep those eggs safe!!!haha

This signing wasn't occurring after she'd been away for four years, so it didn't have the same hysteria to it. If you think about it, the gap between Psychédélices-related activities and UEDS-related activities has been only a few months. That's from the press conference in April '09 to the first UEDS teasers in the fall of that year. So the feel has been of something continuous.

And yet, as I've said before, UEDS is a HUGE break with the past, the recent past as well as the Mylène past. I have a lot of hopes on a professional level for this album. But that will make the task of juggling public and personal life all the more difficult. The coming year will be a challenge for Her Grace one way or another. I think she knows that.

Yes, I try to point this out to everyone! What other singer sets up a private meeting with a handful of fans to sign 50 discs for fans in a country where her music is not even released?

This is why Alizée is so special. Women like her are so few and far between that a person in their life might meet maybe four of five. I have only met four that come across as one of those very special women. I met one in high school, one in college, one in my thirties and one in my forties.

I very first time I saw Alizée, I saw that very special quality that makes her so unique.

I became a fan late december 2009, and joined here early februaury 2010. I was never even a lurker! As soon as johnsons34 told me about this site (we were friends on youtube since mid-january), I signed up immediately! So I have never had a break with little to no news. Those 3 years must have been torture. But I almost feel bad for having missed it. But the people in France, even those that are not truely fans, did have those three years. So seeing the girl they once thought the real name of was 'Lolita' coming back after nothing must have been a hugely gratifying day. Seeing how Psychédélices did commercialy, it comes as no surprise that there are less people in attendance this time. Most people there were probably just semifans who had never heard anyting from UEdS except Les Collines. Not a bad thing, but that is how autograph sessions like this typically go. If the singer has been gone a while, then they have the advantage of people having missed them. But if the singer's previous album was a commercial semifailure, then there will be less fans in attendance. It's human nature. But on this having been a better session, that may be because the album people went away with was better this time. Once again, I wasn't around for the Psych one. But I doubt Alizée herself was any less friendly that time than she was yesterday. She was just signing a better album this time. That's it.

docdtv- First I love reading your posts. They are so eloquent and so well composed. :)

I'm wondering if one of the pieces of information we are not looking at is those Enfant du Siècle Deluxe Edition Box sets. I made a point, that I hoped that they were tracking where these Deluxe Sets were being shipped to.

Someone may have pulled up that information and realized that there is a market in the U.S. that has never really been exploited. We have no idea how many of those Deluxe Edition Box Set are being shipped over here. If that number is large enough at $140 a piece, it shows her record company that there is an untapped potential market for her music.

We may have hit the lottery with this signing because of our web traffic as well as those Box sets.

I just got done reading all of the recent posts, especially those from Scruffydog and co. All I can say is that this is literally unreal. Would anyone have ever thought that Alizée would welcome American fans to a private autographing session to sign 50+ CDs? :D

I can't wait for the TV coverage of this event. :) Well done, everyone.

Docdtv, you are the only user here, whose posts make me having to look over English dictionary. There are so many users here, but only you make troubles:p even that my level of understating written English is way ahead of my writting skills.

I said it already, but say it once more: I love your posts, as you seem to be very inteligent person, who have the knowledge on many fields, literature, history, economy and more. And you just know the world and the people. And I agree with you, but you are always saying what I would write if only my limited english command let me do this in reasonable time:)

What could I say about Scruffy visit. I highly doubt that a lot of people gained a chance to meet Alizée vis-á-vis for 30 minutes, only few had this honour and lucky Scruffy could place him among them. "At least" - to our consolation, but a pity for him, he doesn't know French. However AAm marked its presence in contemporary Alizée fanbase.
And... next time I'll be there also, I wish and believe in it.

Btw. Check the UEDS translations thread:)

Let's all thank Alizée, for being (and this is where I disagree with the mystical deepwaters) the most amazingly voiced, talented, and perfectly charactered person on EARTH!

Not to be bursting bubbles but this was more or less set up by the higher ups not Alizee herself.

Most artists do signings after every show. Many actually mingle with the fans after their concerts. Now I do realize one does have to have concerts to do such but I don't see it happening at the few that do happen. Sorry that with all the infatuated time most of you spend here that you have not ever had the chance to witness what other artists actually do.

Umm, you seem to have missed my point. Maybe Alizée doesn't do signings after every show, but that is not really relevent to my point. I was just stating that no matter who set it up (obviously it wasn't her), she still did it. My point is that this one act for fans she does not even need to aknowledge, due to the fact we make her so little money, was the most incredibly nice thing she could ever do. Beyond stars à domicile. Or any other type thing. We should mean absolutely nothing to her. France, typically, does not think very highly of America at all. But she let Scruffy meet her more privately than all but maybe two French fans. She could have said 'Why meet with the Americans? They aren't going to help the disc sell any better than maybe 200 copies more. And they were obsessing over my knees [lol you know who you are!] last month. They are a bunch of creepy obsessed pigs who need to do something constructive with their lives!' But she didn't. She took to the idea. She spent half an hour of her life thinking about us. Talking (through scruff and others present) to us. Signing copies just for us! Think of it as a compliment. We have (as brad pointed out) achieved a primary goal of this site: get Alizée and whatever her current label is to notice us, once and for all. Why can't people just be happy with that!? No, we don't know that there will ever be a concert, or even a mass release album here, but she knows we exist. She knows we are numerous. And she knows that some of us care. We're here! USA!

And besides that, we don't actually know who set it up, so any thoughts along those lines are pure speculation - regardless of how some people may pretend to knowledge they don't actually possess. What we do know is that Alizée wasn't under any obligation to cooperate.

My belief is that if someone else in the organization thought of the idea, Alizée heard of it and said "Ouai !" with great enthusiasm. Or she might have thought of it herself. But we certainly owe her a note of thanks for this tribute regardless of who initiated the plan.

In the past, when a relationship hasn't worked out, I've sometimes gone from head-over-heels passion for a woman to serious dislike. It's normal and to be expected. However, one must always recognize the impulse for the irrational thing it is, and try not to express it in public.
