Looking forward to seeing Alizée finally performing on a prime time musical program (Wednesday, May 12th) ! Probably some 90's cover?

Here's what NidAlizee's Anthony has to say:

A suivre...

I think the assumption that people will be singing their most famous songs is not necessarily correct -- in fact, I'm sure it's not correct. They'll be singing the songs they WANT to be famous. And in Alizée's case, that means something from UEDS, most likely Les Collines since it's the only single released so far.

Well, let's be logic. "Generation 90" is not only a title, its' a promise.
Every singer of 90's will perform one of his famous song of those times.
The problème is... Alizée is not from the 90's... :o

So... i would say , the most likely is that she will sing a 90's foreign hit.

Generally 2 or 3 singles (with music video) are released for an album during its release, separated by a fair amount of time. Often the first single is released before the album itself and then one or two more singles released after the album, spaced out.

Exactly, this show is undoubtedly very much like other shows that TF1 has done before (and that Alizée has participated in before). Alizée will probably not be performing one of her songs, rather another big hit from the 90s. This in analogous to when Alizée performed Hung Up in TF1's Génération Disco in 2008. Come on people, get it together

Good sir, "some" is quite an understatement :p
But yes, if I could I would talk to her all day and all night saying how it would be perfect for her to sing this, then that, and that and this and so on :D
UniCom and I were talking on the chatbox about what started off as "a few" MJ songs she could sing, and it turned out to be plenty for two concerts :o

Hey y'all. I'm in Paris, and once I heard Alizée would be here, I decided I wanted to go. The website (with the lineup on it) says you can reserve a place, but it's all booked. So I went over to the Palais de Sports to make a plea, and the secretary there said that they were never selling tickets, and instead tickets were being distributed by the producers. All in all I gather that the purpose of the event is to produce TF1's television program, not to have a spectacle.

So, I wouldn't worry about Alizée not performing. It sounds like it's not entirely up to her.

And I really wanted to see the Plastiscines too :(

To clarify what I know, Nini (http://psychalizee.forum-actif.net/mademoiselle-alizee-f3/tv-generation-90-t1719-45.htm) says that the big list with Alizée on it seems to be the list of those invited, but the list she received via email from TF1
- Tribal Jam
- Manau
- Organiz
- Dr Alban
- Ophélie Winter
- Hélène Segara
- Princess Erika
- Worlds Apart
- Moos
- Yannick
seems to be those who confirmed their presence. That's what she says 'according to my understanding'.

It makes sense that she would choose not to accept the invitation. She is trying to put the Mylene days behind her, and fully establish her own identiy as an artist. Why would she then reverse this trend by jumping back into Moi Lolita land? :)

Of course, we don't really know what the circumstances are, if this is even what happened, if she was going to get paid, if she thought it's not worth it if she can't sing her new songs. Who knows. But yeah, it sure doesn't help her rep to pass on any opportunities if that is what happened. How does someone in her position get paid and is that enough to encourage her to do a performance? You'll have to ask Alizée.

According to Fernando, Alizee sang Moi...Lolita 3 times. One was the original version, and the other was a duo with a parody version of Moi...Lolita, but apparently they messed up and did that version again. Pics and video coming soon.

 wooow.... so... is this the "Let'be-sexy-again-and-give-people-what-they-want" last chance strategy ?? :)

(We seems far from Les collines, here ...)

My thoughts exactly. I don't see what performing ML on french TV is going to do for her.
All these interviews about how hard it is to grow up in france and blabla.

Now, the french public sees her in a big show and she is what? LOLITA.
She is fortifying the image she wanted to get rid of.

I don't understand this strategy, but oh well, understanding is not required i guess..

@Fenris

it's a show about the 90's and she didn't choose the song... it's her big song from the 90's (exactly from 2000 but who cares) so why she shouldn't perform it? 2008 she performed in shows like Génération Disco, CloClo and this other Génération show where she sung Adelaide with Alain Chamfort (I don't remember the name of the show right now... wasn't it Generation 80?) and that wasn't a performance of MJ or FS either...

And she would have been foolish not to go there. She has enough trouble to find a show to perform anything right now...

I don't get it... first you are asking for a TV performance and then you aren't satisfied....

(don't be mad at me my friend. it's nothing against you personally)

Agreed, 2000 is not a stretch. Keep in mind centuries run from the year 01 to the year 100, i.e. the 20th century is 1901-2000.

I'm not mad, Jenny. We should be able to discuss different point of views without taking it personally. ;)
Ofc i am happy to see her on french TV, BUT as i stated, i'm asking myself if this may not be counterproductive in her quest being recognized as a grown up artist.
She is trying to sell UEDS, not GMD. A whole different baby. A different Alizée.

I'm not attacking her, i know she is in a difficult situation. Once she has established her new image in the public, then she can go back and sing ML again like this. As it is now, the typical frenchie only sees Lolita again and it will be even more difficult to break out of the old prejudice about her in France.
Maybe i'm wrong, who knows. Time will tell.

Karin

Yes! Awesome! That's what I'm talking about. Ok, outfits a little strange, but she's still looking really great and they did a great job. I think her backup dancers did a really good job.
I think Jenny is right and what the heck, it was fun right?
Boy I'm glad the rumors were wrong this time (that she wouldn't be there). Now do that 100 more times with different songs. :D
Of course, what the heck was up with that second version? I know a joke or whatever. Hey, at least we got more Alizée and very nice that was. Too bad they screwed up though.

Absolutely! These are GREAT of Alizée. Thanks very much. I really enjoyed all of them.

By the way, I have to give Alizée's co-singer a LOT of credit to go out on stage and do what he did.

Note: You could see (if you look closely enough) that she was not especially happy with some of what the dancers did in HER Moi Lolita version (I'm guessing she thought it was a little over the top), but she was a trooper about it - very professional.

... Her dresses were funky but I got used to it once she started swinging the Lolita hips:D Sorry(teenage guy stuff):D ...Uh, not just teenage guy stuff. I assure you of that. And what the heck is wrong with that?
And I think the dancers did a pretty good job. If you mix sexy with skill of dance, it's quite nice and adds a lot. Alizée's dances in her 2003 concerts were all really fun to watch too.

Well she isn't slipping back into it. This was just for a show and it was because it was a big song in the late 90s. She can be Lolita again if she wants, I wouldn't mind:rolleyes:. But yah if she does do some other songs in the future like JEAM, she definitely needs to do an nice electro version like she did with this ML version. What I meant was that this version of ML is far more faithful to the original in terms of look and sound than the Psychédélices version. If she performs any other Gourmandises or MCE songs it would be GREAT if she did something similar to this (ie different but not too different :D) Similar electro versions of songs like L'Alizé or JPVA would be unbelievably amazing :p

The choreagrapher watched too many 80's Robert Palmer videos. IMHO the background dancers distract from Alizee. The constanct bouncing around and almost grabbing their crotches could have been left out.

Of course she looked absolutely beautiful.

I really like the arrangement on the song too. It was better than the Psych era version with the DJ.

I do have to question if doing this show was a good decision. She needs to be performing her new songs. Maybe I missed it somewhere but I haven't seen anything from the new album except for the Les Collines video. The last two official live performances I've seen from her are this one and the 2008 Generation Disco performance of Hung Up. That's just reinforcing the dance style of music that she seems to be trying to distance herself from.

Alizée performed a few songs live off of UEdS at the release party. See This Thread (http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5481)
It's my understanding that there not many shows left on French TV that one can perform their songs on and so one has to take what one can get.

Well I noticed the same here. I can hardly bring to mind any program strictly devoted to music, where singer could perform his own song. Of course there is a lot of different shows where singers sing something, but it's often just covering someone's song made by popular at particular time stars, nobody new, still the same faces, even if they sing their songs, it's nothing new. I think there's a lack of good music programmes here. How do you find it in America? Supposing that Alizée is American, would she have a good chance to perform live in prime time:p?

In the USA there are not a lot of opportunities in prime time on TV for singers either. We mainly see them on the "Tonight Shows" that come on later like Leno, Letterman, Kimmel, and SNL, to name a few. But at least they get to sing a song of their own. I had always hoped Alizée would try to get on one of these shows just to see what kind of response she would get from a US audience. Yelle was on the Carson Daly show and sang in French and seemed to get a very good response.

Sad to know that there are so few opportunities for her to sing her new songs. Artists infact use these shows as a medium of promoting their new work.

True True, that would be awesome but she doesn't let the press into her life...The press wouldn't have to be involved in a video for uploading to the net. Also if she did it in her house no one would know it was her house unless they were invited guests. She may have to get creative and this might be a medium for her. I don't know how you felt about how she was dressed, but I thought the red top was very classy and she looked great. The dress wasn't bad either. I think that even if she came out in her birthday suit someone would whine about that lol. The dancers on the other hand were a bit over the top pole dancing without the pole, but that's the choreographers problem. The whole show seemed to lack professionality, but I think Alizee gave it some class that it otherwise wouldn't have had and she made the best of a bad situation. It also appeared that she was having some fun with it. Alizee is a real trooper.

I mean that looks like "I want to look sexy but I have no idea how"... and that's pretty sad... she is such a beautiful girl and choose so weird clothes...Well, and that second outfit looked different at first, like it depends on the distance. I don't know. It doesn't really bother me, but... it is rather different. I just wonder what the circumstances are in which she picked out this stuff. Maybe they had some clothes and said, how about you pick out something that will stand out. Or even someone suggested it to her.

And however much I may like or not any particular choreography, I think the performances where she has a bunch of backup dancers are cool. I like when they make a big production out of it and put Alizée in the center, not that she hasn't also done some very simple and adorable performances even just sitting down (La Javanaise par exemple).

True. For several years now, there is no more popular show about music, in which singers could perform...It seems strange to me that one would rather have Alizée on their show and do a half hour interview rather than have a performance and quick interview like she did so many of years ago. Ok, on tv I guess it's been more like 5 or 10 minutes. Maybe it's because it would cost them a lot to have equipment and all the people and so forth and tv is really not making much money anymore. ?? In which case, I wish Alizée had been more pioneering and created her own shows and then put them on the web or tried to license them to tv stations or something. But I guess that's the problem, everyone's attention is now diverted from somewhat large relatively spectacular or glamorous presentations such as "tv" and onto guys in their bedroom doing YouTube videos. So, those for whom it doesn't make sense to do that are having difficulty figuring out how to get attention and make it pay off. So many people are doing "little" things and getting paid little or nothing for it. How does one run a serious promotion anymore? How much time and money is Alizée supposed to spend just for the scraps left of what people are willing to pay for CDs? Is it true that only small time performers doing long tours where they play just anywhere they can or huge stars like Mylène Farmer are being "successful", or is all that just b.s.?

Supposedly, it is at concerts where musicians make their money, yet everyone who worked with Alizée is touring around and she's at home waiting for them to return. If she can't be a performing artist who will tour, what's left for her to do? I think the album is largely just an advertisement for concerts and concerts an opportunity to sell the album, but that's not how it has been for Alizée. Last time she released an album, remixes, music videos, special editions of singles, and did several tv shows... but no concert in France and sales were ok, but far from great.

I think there should be more professional looking dance/music shows with elaborate choreography. I'm not really into ballet much, but big performances like in some movies or some dance shows are really cool. But again, only the best would survive in modern television I guess. At Les Enfoirés, they approach the type of thing I'm talking about, but while that show is a lot of fun, it's far from the awesomeness that a professional dance troupe could pull off. If Alizée was a part of such a thing, that would be the best. I thought her 2003 concerts were of that sort, especially since she was actually singing at the same time. She did 42 of those. Anyway... past is past.

Perhaps everyone is distracted from supporting the best of the "classical arts" because everyone is becoming a content creator now, not to mention the whole worldwide "economic depression" thing. But, let's get real, if a beautiful and sexy woman like Alizée gets on stage and shakes her hips a bit to a nice beat while seeming to sound good singing a song... you can't go wrong. That's why Moi... Lolita is so simple and so obviously works. It's chemistry. You heard the crowd. They like it.

sumi1

Personally, I feel that Alizee is not among the greatest singers of our times. She is, however, one of the greatest performers I have ever seen. Her singing, dancing skills, her persona, her awesomeness, her class make an irresistible combination. Remove any one thing and as Roman said, the whole chemistry is lost.

I think the reason there aren't any variety shows anymore is simply because they get bad ratings nowadays. Few people want to watch that kind of thing. Then add to that the high ratings of "reality" shows that are much cheaper to produce. Just look at what happened with Jay Leno's attempt to put his show in prime time - total failure.

Yeah that whole Leno ordeal was dumb, I can't believe they kicked him off of it.

But Yah I think there aren't any shows like that cause too many people are Fed Up with no-name people that become stars everyday. It is no longer rare to have some random kid become a superstar in hours and be singing for the President the next day....

But Yah I think there aren't any shows like that cause too many people are Fed Up with no-name people that become stars everyday. It is no longer rare to have some random kid become a superstar in hours and be singing for the President the next day....
That's interesting. That suggests that contrary to this YouTube culture of anyone and everyone being able to get famous, people are sort of over it? It's like newspapers and magazines have gone out of business to be replaced by poor quality blogs, wikipedia and pseudo journalism. Think of some of the crappy and inaccurate web articles that there have been about Alizée. They mostly just copy each other and some have gross errors that look like they just made something up from memory and didn't even take the time to do any research.
But here's the thing too, before a few years ago, I never or hardly ever came online to places like this. If I wasn't here typing away, I'd probably be watching tv (or maybe working :p ). Though, I actually stopped watching tv when I moved here in 2002 (long before I found Alizée) because the overabundance of commercials is brain rotting. And, I found Alizée on YouTube; so... now I want her to be on tv a lot, something I really try to resist watching in general. What can you say?

Well if you look at TV fifty years ago you had shows like the Ed Sullivan Show that offered comedy, music, and a whole variety of acts in a one hour show. Not only did they have people get their start on the show, but it offered a place for well established performers to get exposure as well. It's where bands like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones got their first real exposure in the US. Over the years the variety format slowly died out because people quit watching. Now we mostly have dramas, sitcoms and "reality" shows in prime time. Music has been relegated mostly to late night programming.

YouTube can be a wonderful thing, but there is a lot of junk to sift through. Even Alizée with all her exposure on the internet is having trouble promoting her new album. If a person has forgotten Alizée or is no longer interested in her or doesn't know who she is, they are not likely to go looking for her or to click on a link that will expose them to her newest work. But when you happen to see her on prime time TV singing her latest single, that creates a huge opportunity to win people over. Just think, most of the video performances of Alizée that we all cherish came from TV broadcasts. I doubt we would have ever seen the JEAM dance if all they relied on back then was YouTube. It sure would be nice if we still had TV shows like that and people were still willing to watch them.

Everyone seems to have a sad story now to make people feel bad for them and start to like them because they have been through things....everyone goes through bad things, just not as much as others...It's funny, one of the things I liked about Alizée is she seemed to have good luck and a great life. It was sort of inspiring in that way to think that at least someone could just have a nice life.

And lefty, yeah, totally. It's all the great tv performances that really solidified so many fans' interest. That's actually why we were starting to groan even like December 2007. One had the feeling that in the past she did little interviewing and lots of performances. Then it switched. Her appeal was primal and didn't really need explanation, though it was then still really cool every time she would do an interview.

By the way, Britney Spears is now working on a new album that will be much different than her previous ones and much more electro. LOL Like Orion said, she'll probably make millions on this "unpopular" type of music. Well, one can wait and see how different it is though. Who knows when that will come out. In a year?

Alizee has the AA member created letter of support and encouragement to come here as you all know. I guess we will be the first to know if she gets serious about coming to USA. I think her French trudge through the mud to promote Ueds is taking all of her attention @ the moment. I agree with Lefty and Roman that I miss variety shows and musical artists performances. Anybody remember the Midnight Special or Don Kirshner's rock concert late night music shows? A long time before vh-1 or mtv and was live. Music video's had not been invented yet. Also great venues for established and up and comming music artists. Damn I'm old!

And yeah, pepelepew, I was listening to the soundtrack to Grease on a record player when I was like 8, and my totally favorite song, which I heard on the radio, was Tears for Fears - Shout, but you are old! :p

You know, it's funny, when I was young, I didn't even know bands for the most part. I just knew songs that I liked. Actually, even now, I happened to remember this and through the magic of Google, I start typing in the lyrics and get the title and the band. Otherwise, I wouldn't even be able to tell you the band or know the name for sure. I wonder what that tells about how people relate to music. It's like there's someone out there who's favorite song is Moi... Lolita from when they were a kid, but they don't even know who sang the song. Actually, that's not likely considering Alizée was also very young and there was all the tv and internet and stuff even then. Surely any kid would have a better connection with the music than I did. I never used to own music, just listen to the radio. I guess I should admit, I taped some stuff off the radio eventually though, when I had that capability. Though, I don't remember ever making much use of that really.

They were a good pop band. I have never been a large collector of music either. I primarily listen to many different genre's of music on the radio.
I really hope the French and more Americans develop a taste for key lime pie.

See, now you just had to take it to the next level. That's the difference.

And I don't know about key lime pie, but I have developed a real taste for this album. Maybe it's partly because I really like singing along with songs and now I've learned some of them from this album and thus can engage with it more. Maybe a way to promote the album would be to develop a lesson plan around the songs to teach American (or other non-native) French students to sing the songs. I have had fantasies before of getting together child choirs at some local school and teaching them to sing some Alizée song or other (not Moi... Lolita! :o ) She has some really good songs that I'm sure would be really wonderful in choirs. Imagine sending a video of that to Alizée. How would that make her feel I wonder?

Well, in Mexico there are kids in school playing JEAM on violin and they did a full-on professional looking Mexican version music video of JEAM. There are lots of people (women) trying (however poorly) to imitate her dance. Some girl played JEAM while doing a sort of ball room looking dance for her quinceñera, etc.. Alizée, or 'son œuvre' in any case, has been honored in lots of ways there. I wonder how she really feels about that, or if she even realizes. Still, a bunch of kids singing one of her songs--I don't know, how about l'Effet just to be extra cute about it :D...

Oh and @pepelpew, I was being sarcastic because of stuff people say about the style of the music not being mainstream. I.e. as soon Britney Spears does it, it's mainstream.

I thought the same thing as i read her interview concerning the preparation of her concerts...one the one hand she said they will be "très bientôt", very soon, but a few lines later she said that she waits for Rob and CM to tour with her, and Rob is on his own tour until October and i higly doubt that he will immediatly start a new tour with Lili after this.
So, i found this very contradictory.

Imho she should not sit around waiting for others, there are enough good musicians out there to hire.
And about the state of TV, yeah it's pathetic. I can't even remember when i switched my TV on the last time. Reality shows for the braindead and nothing else.

Oh... I thought that you knew all that... otherwise I would have post it before!

So, just like you can read on Lili's nest, we are talking of 2 different shows, absolutely. "Génération 90", hosted by Nikos et Liane Foly, will be broadcast at the end of Juin on TF1. Alizée is the sequence n.26, so in the middle of the show. The welcome of the public for her was one of the 3 biggest one!

"La grande soirée du rire" (c'est le titre correct) will be hosted by Jean-Pierre Foucault on the meme channel, TF1. Broadcast date is uncertain.

Found on AF. So pretty much in the end of June it will air on TF1....can't wait:D

Well, if you saw the interview that I translated, she said she is ready to do concerts, but seems to be waiting until she can get together other producers of the album and they are off doing their own thing (Rob until October was it?); so, maybe around October, November, December??? it's really hard to tell. I feel that delaying concerts might be harmful for her. Now is the right time for concerts and they will provide the much needed publicity for UEDS as well. She can hire some other musicians as well and may be the musicians that worked on the album can join in later. If they are busy until October, they will need some time for rehearsals after that. So, actual concert dates, if they do happen, may be next year also. That is too late.

Well, frankly, coming out with her album last summer or fall even and having already done the tour would have been more timely and allowed her to catch a buzz that existed especially with her Mexican fans. Her third album came out at the end of 2007. It would have been better a year before so that it did not seem like she was gone for a particularly extended period of time way past when people expected it. When the remix videos for 50/60 were announced, they were expected within the next few weeks, but it was more like two or three months. Stuff happens. It will come when it comes or not at all. Alizée is ready, but that doesn't mean she can make it happen. Check back if it's convenient for you, but you also may not get more notice than two or three months. Yes, it may not happen until next year. That's the way it is.

Yes, I think smaller venues would better suit her current style of music. And the tickets for such concerts tend to be cheaper, so I'm all for it. AND I can think of at least 2 friends who are big enough fans to allow me to bring them... might have a lot of persuading on my hands but the chance of seeing Alizée is worth it, even if it comes to offering bribes. :p Wow... this might actually happen :D:D:D

Indie/Electronica music including Psych - smaller venues. word travels fast in that setting. people will wise up to the album.

I agree with Manni, the smaller venues might work better. I just found out that one of my indie-type friends knows and likes Alizée and so in the event of a show here in DC that makes 4-5 people that will go with me.

Ahh if I can't persuade my Alizée-tolerating friends to come with (they love her really!), then I may be driven to hijacking the family holiday.

So, Feraunger did have the 2nd version of the parody version too. I didn't see that before. If you missed it, you can get a link here: http://alizee-uneenfantdusiecle.over-blog.com/article-interview-tv-51088253.html Elie Semoun, Alizée "Moi...kevina"

Hey does anyone know the day this show's going out on yet? I know it's sometime this month but I'm just wondering if there's any more precise info on when we can expect it.
Thanks. :)
