You know what? For the first time , Mylène is going to release her live DVD in Mexico. According to Mylène.net :
"Mexicans fans of Mylène are growing. Most of them have discovered Mylène with Alizee who had a lot of succes in this country, lately."
Can you believe this? Alizee is helping Mylène finding new markets...

That's not so surprising. Most of us also came to know about Mylene only through Alizee. But to be frank, I never liked Mylene's work. Not sure about Mexican fans though. Mylene is, in many ways, so different than Alizee.
Merci Alizée

Well, popularity of one French artist in a part of world will certainly help other artists.
I always thought that Mylene is a good performer and good singer.

I have always hated Mylene because her own music is just creepy and she is SUPER PROVOCATIVE!!! I remember seeing one of her vids on YT(only one i have ever seen haha) and she was wearing fishnet leggings with a thong, and i don't dig readheads too haha.

That's good news, Dan. I hope a lot of Mexicans discover Mylène that way. It will say nice things about Alizée if they do, plus Mylène is just awesome in general. (Obviously, I disagree with her detractors on this thread.)

I must disagree too...:p Mylène is awesome. But I think it's ironical that she could be known in some country as the "Redhead who discovered Alizée" :D

Wow that's really cool! I discovered Mylène through Alizée and have come to love her music *almost* as much as Alizée's. :p I'm glad others will have the same experience, especially since her new DVD is nothing short of breathtaking.

Haha I can kinda understand that, I find her rather creepy as a person on occasion, though with her latest album I think she's tried to tone down that side of herself. But by no means all her music reflects her slightly bizarre and creepy side, I think you just had a bad introductory experience haha. :p Try this live performance- it's what I believe to be the best version of her best song. :) (as well as being the first of her videos I ever saw :D:D)

If you're still not sold then I promise I'll stop being a nag. :D
She's not everyone's cup of tea though.
Having said that, personally I love her! :D

What's bad in being super provocative ? :p

Good question! Having provocativity is far better then being one of those generic female pop stars whose music and videos sound and look exactly like each other. I could understand people's aversion from Mylène as a result of it though- on occasion she has taken it too far for a mainstream audience (in my opinion anyway). :)

Doc (as always) serves us a quote perfectly describing situation:) Greece as...? I find it an interesting idea, but you'd better explain it to other, as, very likely, most of people here don't know Latin:p (but English and French should help a lot in understanding)
Staying on topic. It's good that French music still manages it in the world, nowadays strongly influenced by English language music. Personally I listen to Mylené from time to time, but I'm not a fan, just a listener.

I've seen some of Mylene's performances being described as raunchy, but I think she is a greatly talented artist. Of course we know the one area she was lacking in was rewriting not only Alizée's but her own songs into English. Will she now try and rewrite any of her songs into Spanish?

"Some people call me sexy, and some even think I'm provocative, but I don't think so" -Alizée
Mylene wishes she could say that people call her sexy:p
Maybe Mylene thinks she can fulfill that provocative vacancy the mexicans thought Alizee would deliver MCE like.

How can you completely hate someone who was one of the major architects of Alizée's early career? I think it's fair to say that without Mylène there would have been no Gourmandises or MCÉ! Either that or they would have taken a completely different form. Even if Mylène's own music isn't to your taste, you have to recognise her as having a good eye for talent, amazing song-writing skills and as being one of the best producers Alizée could have asked for in this early stage of her career. :)

Just because you love the student, doesn't mean you have to love the mentor. I love my friends, but I can't really say that I love their parents.
Merci Alizée

I thought "not loving" and "hating" are two different things.

Yeah, you're right, they are different things. But my point still stands.
But don't forget though, Mylene is an artist on her own, and a former Alizée mentor. 2 different aspects, and it seems to me that Aaron hates the artist Mylene.

Yeah, she has her own qualities and about Aaron, only he will be able to tell that he hates artist Mylene or something else.

Hmm true... but I think on the other hand Mylène was such a large influence on Alizée in these early years it's impossible to say you love Alizée without appreciating how much effect Mylène had on making her who she is.
I guess the word I was looking for was 'respect'. You can dislike Mylène's personality/singing style, but you can respect her for how much she helped establish Alizée as the artist we all love today. I think if you say that you hate Mylène, it also implies that you lack any sort of respect/appreciation for her or what she has done.

Or that you know.. you find it horrid when old(er) women try too hard to be sexy and provocative. :p
Besides, it's like saying you can't love WWII veterans without respecting/appreciating Hitler. I mean, Hitler did have a massive effect on establishing WWII veterans, no?
A very extended and construed example. :p

Totally agree with that. It's really awful to see them like that.

Lol Wasabi. You know one thing : You can prove or disprove anything in this world by giving just one example.
I learned this thing when I joined the college 3 years ago and believe me it was a good lesson.

Hahaha I agree. In her earlier videos (sorta pre-2000) anything sexy/provocative was usually done with taste and class, allowing her to get away with it, but now she's getting on 50 somebody really needs to tell her to stop! :p Still, I don't think it's any worse than young pop stars of today taking every music video as an opportunity to flaunt their body for absolutely no reason at all.

Hmmm yes maybe this discussion has gone on for long enough.
The only thing I'd like to say is that even if Mylène's music isn't to your taste, give credit where it's due to the amazing stuff she did for Alizée in her early days. :)
Mylene is very much the French Madonna. In a way, it is very appropriate that she was Alizée's mentor.
Although a bit over the edge sometimes, I happen to think Mylene puts on amazing live shows. :)

Ohh you're so right, I'll take that back. She's Mylène- nobody tells her what to do and that's what makes her one of the most inspirational artists in the world. But as Wasabi says, it's entirely a matter of taste and opinion...... having said that I wouldn't changer her! :p

True, true! Her SDF DVD released earlier this year is one the most stunning artisic performances I've ever seen. I would have given anything to be there.

Agreed. And Mylène Farmer has still got it. By the way, she's only 48, not 49 yet. (I know this because she and I have the same birthday, Sep. 12.)
