Who is going there?

Who indeed? For the most part, I'd sooner go to Sri Lanka than Israel... But Alizée!?! It's so weird! Also noteworthy is that Serge's more famous daughter, Charlotte, isn't on the bill. But maybe she's busy doing a movie or something.

@ Toc : No, I'm pretty sure there'd be no 's' there, right? "20 years since he left us", "he" being the object here. Hey, get out! That kind of a mistake is my trademark!

yeah, I would have guessed something more like "20 ans depuis qu'il nous a quitté..." in which case...

Hi, Roman! Hey, Toc!
Well, since we're splitting hairs here, I just did another boo-boo: I said "object" when I shoulda said "subject". Dang!

Hey guys! :)

I think it is sous-entendu that quelque chose du genre "Wow ça fait" comes before ... 20 ans qu'il nous a quitté(s). ;)

Since nous is a COD (complément d'objet direct) and it precedes the past participle, it should agree. Nous is plural by nature, so, if I understand correctly, there must be at least s at the end of quitté.

The same goes for things like:
1) Je l'ai vue, cette fille.
2) Il m'a regardée. [Speaker is female.]

Way to go!
I'm so proud of her today.
There is so much anti-Israeli sentiment in the world these days. I applaud her decision.

@ Bigdan - well, then, what is it? We're all confused...

"20 ans qu'il nous a quittés",

"20 ans qu'il nous a quitté",

ou, peut-être:

"20 ans depuis qu'il nous a quitté"

Aides-nous, s'il tu plaît!

And, by the way, do you know what's up with the (former) Lillytown Forum? Why'd they change it? Why didn't they tell anyone they were doing that? What gives?:confused::confused:

Does anyone have an idea if she will be singing one of her own songs or might it be something like Les Enfoires where she's singing some other song in unison with other people?

It's kind of interesting that they used an older picture of her on this promotional banner. We saw a lot of that in Mexico. There are a lot of recent great photos of her. Doesn't make sense. Unless it's somebody over in Israel who doesn't really know her who grabs one of the first pictures they see.

Probably because that's when she was highly popular and hasn't been very active since (except for a fair number of performances in 2007/8).

There were five songs that charted in Israel. For example, Moi... Lolita was number one. J'en ai marre! was number two. Also Gainsbourg was Jewish. :)

The last song to chart there was A Contre-Courant (19th spot, in 2003), so a photo from that era makes sense. More recognizable to the public. ;)

I've said it a few times before in this forum. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Whether it's the beauty of her voice, the beauty of the music that accompanies the voice, her physical beauty and the beauty of the person inside.

As far as the beauty of her voice. I definitely prefer the beauty of her voice in her first two albums. In her third album, songs like Fifty sixty and Lily town were good songs but I don't really think they show cased her great voice. The one song that did was PLP which was a great song imo. UEDS I thought did a better job of bringing out that voice, but I feel the music didn't really complement her voice that well.

As far as her physical beauty. It's been beautiful throughout with the exception of her stage appearence during Psych. I think she made the mistake of thinking she could show up on stage wearing what she wanted to wear and it wouldn't make a difference. I often said during that time that she looked great off stage, but such was not the case on stage. I think she's learned some lessons from Psych and is putting a lot of effort into it and it shows.

Here's a picture of a dvd I just made up a little over a week ago to promote her here in Boston. I used 4 pictures. More or less one from each different era. In the first, second and fourth (going clockwise from lower left), they were all beautiful pictures taken from one of her performances. Where as the one from the Psych era was from an interview, because I didn't think the ones from her performances in that time frame were that great.

http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/2761/coverforpromotionaldvdw.jpg (http://img696.imageshack.us/i/coverforpromotionaldvdw.jpg/)

So yes even though I think UEDS isn't as good as her first two albums. I think she has looked extremely beautiful in all her pictures during this new era.

So if you cant understand that simple little concept, please feel free to intetpret things the way you see fit. After all it is a free country.

When I first saw the topic's title, I was like Wh... Wheere?? Israel?
But then, well it's a performance with other artists, commemorating Serge, so maybe they will sing some Gainsbourg's songs? It makes sense for me.

Chuck

My apologies, Mr. Scruff, for appearing so rude.

I was a bit "off" last night after a few brews. I find I must agree with you on several of your points. For example, yes, beauty indeed IS in the eye of the beholder.

I also agree that Lili's earlier songs DO showcase her remarkable voice much better than UEDS. But for me, Psych is definitely my fave album of them all. In it, she shows off her remarkable range (both of octaves and of styles), and there's enough variety among the songs there that it doesn't bore - there's something for everyone to like! Plus it seems to be the one album that it most expressive of her personally. They're not MF/LB's songs. And they're not Institubes' songs. It is my hope that she and Jérémy work together again on the next album.

MY APOLOGIES ALSO TO TOC DE MAC :

Believe it or not, they had the exact same discussion (quitté vs. quittés) going on on our French counterpart, the website formerly known as Lillytown Forum. And there they wound up saying the "s" should have been added! Go figure! Beats the heck outta me. But the amount of debate goes to show you that French is difficult even for the French, quelquefois!

jung_adore_ALIZEE
07-01-2010, 07:18 PM
I've said it a few times before in this forum. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

It's not about beauty, but more of what she is or isn't doing now. simply put you can't promote what one isn't doing. Is that not also a simple concept to grasp? I honestly don't care how you promote, but I just find that saying one shouldn't use something older when they themselves use older stuff for the same purpose is quite hypocritical.

Jung

I often said during that time that she looked great off stage, but such was not the case on stage. I think she's learned some lessons from Psych and is putting a lot of effort into it and it shows.
...And I think it's bizarre if you do not find her on stage look at the Strasbourg multi-artist free concert appealing, or the Aix-en-Provence, or the even the Disque d'Or or Génération Clo Clo (Love is All) or some stuff from Les Enfoirés (ok you might not count that). It's true that not every time did she appear really to be trying to impress people with her clothing selection and maybe people get tired of the baby doll dresses because they wanted to see her show off her great body more (I even complained about that for a moment, then at least partially took it back), but even then, the Acoustic performance for example, those high heels at least were very sexy.

I think that she did not come back and give off the same vibe of extreme sex appeal as she did before. She was competing with her 18/19 year old self in a way. But, to say that she didn't care about her stage appearance is unfair.

I think it's just because perhaps she didn't show it off EVERY time that such a sentiment comes out and because she didn't show it off like she did in the previous era. Now, you are are used to it and don't have the same contrast; so, you appreciate her more now as she is. Of course, far be it for me to interpret your opinion. That's my sense of it. I think she showed up looking really good several times this year, but even then, I think she's more beautiful than that because I don't think the heavy eye make-up helps (even if in some cases it was sort of sexy, like on Le Grand Journal, where that and her outfit and everything worked well together).

Wish I had time to link photos.

Sorry Roman but I didn't like any pictures where she permed part or all of her hair. I don't like the look of curly hair on her. I didn't like when she wore the purple colored barrettes even though I'm surre that was in keeping with the color scheme of the Psych album. I do like the look in these 2 pictures from Les Enfoires, where the black barrettes blend in and don't distract you from the beauty of her, or her hair.

This is a very good look for her, but I prefer the look of her hair as she wore it at the interview that was pictured on my disc.

Don't like the blue/purple barrettes? -Aix (I love them myself.) Don't like curly hair? -Gén. Cloclo (I really liked that too.) Ok, I guess we have our opinions, but wasn't trying? Didn't care what she looked like on stage? I think that's a rather extreme statement because you don't care for her hair style at the level of the color of her barrettes.

Guess it doesn't matter. What I really hope does not matter is that Tel-Aviv could be considered a dangerous place to be. People worried about Alizée when she went to Mexico because of what was going on there. Tel-Aviv likewise.

In any case, thanks Doron for posting about your participation.

The biography at http://gainsbourgopera.com/alizee/?lang=en fails to get everything correct. (Alizée was never fourteen years old in 2000.)

They also elected not to mention that her late mother-in-law, ז״ל, kept two sets of plates. ;) (Not that it is relevant.)

That confirms the confusion about her lolita character...
They always think she's younger than she is...
I remember people who were shocked by her JPVA danse thought she was 16 !

Sheeeeeeeeeet! Merde! Does that mean both answers are right, or neither answer is right? ;) Either way, I'm staying here in the kiddie pool. "Comment allez-vous?"

Nonnnn :p, there is only one right answer for all intents and purposes, and it is very clear why :):

Il nous a quittés.

The expression is quitter quelqu'un, where quelqu'un is a direct object. Thus, nous is the direct object of this sentence. When a direct object precedes a verb which expresses an action in the past, you must make agreement according to the nature of this direct object. In this case, we do not know whom the direct object nous represents; however, the least we know is that it should be plural (perhaps feminine plural, but we don't know that), since it represents multiple people, so we add an s. ;)

It's not that hard or confusing, it just requires some practice. :)

It looks like something that came out of a folder some newb labeled 'hawt gurlz pix'. Seriously, it doesn't show her well at all. If that had been the first way I had seen her, I would have probably dismissed her without a second thought. And imagine what I would be missing...

Paris is dangerous. Try crossing the street against the light. Tel-Aviv is not that bad.

By the way, there are still FRONT ROW seats available (at only $140)! :)
Or Gold seats for $180 which also includes the VIP Coctail Party.

Here is what the Czech data base had to say about this commercial for J'en ai marre.

2003-02-25 "J'en ai marre" is released in France and enters number 5 in the charts. The first announcement of recording in Japan are announced (Elise). The famous announcement on "Fan De" where Alizée breaks plates whilst saying "Parce que J'en ai marre" (Because I've had enough) is shown.

I tried posting the whole commercial, but Youtube shot it down, I believe because it showed the M6 logo. So I cropped that out and just clipped the part I wanted and they then allowed it. Here is the rapidshare link if you want to download the whole commercial. This commercial was aired about a week after J'en ai marre was first released. What an awesome commercial!

...The famous announcement on "Fan De" where Alizée breaks plates whilst saying "Parce que J'en ai marre" (Because I've had enough) is shown.

I tried posting the whole commercial, but...

Well, I see Scruffy finally figured out how FAR you have to go these days to get anyone to mind your mass-media ads!

But for me, plate-breaking still falls far short of many of the attention-getting lyrics and stunts which Serge Gainsbourg carried off during his lifetime. Take for example the "flattering" remarks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMdXi6f5KRg&feature=related) the "Gainsbarre" persona (Americans should think along the lines of Andy Kaufman, Sam Kinnison, Dice Clay and Howard Stern) offered (http://mikiwiki.org/wiki/Serge_Gainsbourg/FAQ#What_about_the_Whitney_Houston_incident.3F) then-"sweet" Whitney Houston on Michel Drucker's chat show in the 1980s. (Of course, if it did her any emotional harm, it sure seems to have taken a long time (http://teddybishop.wordpress.com/2009/12/06/whitney-houston-gets-no-nominations-for-the-upcoming-grammys/) to show effect.)

In a posting the other month, I already kvetched how Gainbourg's Je T'aime... Moi Non Plus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHiMDB19Dyc) helped make studying in school problematic by its hypnotic grip on someone with whom I had to share a common living area.

Yet maybe the work whose sexual innuendo most outraged people was Lemon Incest (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LE06lqT0Y2g), in which he co-stars with his 12-year-old daughter by Jane Birkin, Charlotte Gainsbourg. Dr. Freud could theorize about what Jung renamed the Electra Complex, but it took Serge Gainsbourg to "innocently" allude to it in song. Birkin fashions herself something of the keeper of the SG flame and "exonerates" him on this song and other antics in a 2003 interview here (http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2003/feb/05/artsfeatures.popandrock1/print).

But I think a much more puckish work than Lemon Incest was the rather ambiguous Les Sucettes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Nr0dUcrAU0), which you might think of as a more sophisticated version of the antecedent Ska hit My Boy Lollipop (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCUcbRTB6Rs).

Gainsbourg liked to be provocative in ways outside of sex, too. Perhaps they will play Nazi Rock (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cqltt-YKwCc) in Tel Aviv right before Le Sable et le Soldat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKAlhsZTtzM), LOL.

My, my, my... just think how boringly sweet Mylène Farmer songs might have been had she not grown up with the chance to hear Serge Gainsbourg songs!

Just so you don't think Gainsbourg wrote nothing but lip-biters, I'll end with a song mainstream enough to let France Gall win the Eurovision contest in 1965 - Poupée de Cire, Poupée de Son (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5aeeSmkPwQ). The man had a lot of talent and you cannot write a history of French popular music without him.

Merci Alizée

Correct http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WP9LYD_Am4A

I wasn't trying to be critical of MJ. He was a very talented and gifted artist. Glitz was a part of several of his performances. It worked well for him and looked good on hiim. But I've always said Alizee has a lot of natural beauty. She doesn't need any fancy outfits, lots of jewelry or make up. When she wears something glitzy, it seems to almost take away from that beauty imo.

Actually, it was more the walk she did in Moscow. LIB seemed like a more specific choreographed movement and was more active. This other thing is just sort of an Alizée thing. It's how she moves on stage when she's wearing high heels, a skirt, and trying to project a certain presence when she's moving slowly and "stepping into a song". Anyway, watch the Moscow performance and maybe you'll see what I mean.

.... I find I must agree with you on several of your points. For example, yes, beauty indeed IS in the eye of the beholder....

Allow me to offer a correction to this often held thought: PHYSICAL beauty is in the eye of the beholder. REAL beauty is in the HEART of the beholder.

It is only when the original perception is moved from thought to feeling, from the head (which sees the image) to the heart (which feels what the mind's eye is perceiving - and adding whatever is perceived externally at a level of pure feeling and perception), does the true beauty of the observed/perceived truly come into your awareness. :)

No worries I didn't mean anything either :D
I agree that she looks best in the simpler stuff she wears

Thanks for the interview TDM!
Can anyone tell what this Harel Skaat guy's saying about Lili in the interview? And also I heard somewhere (probably in this thread actually! :p) that she was pressurised not to perform in Israel. Anyone know why this was or is it just a rumour with no facts behind it? The only reasons I can think of is the current political climate, and if that's true then well done Lili for not being told what to do by politicians!! :D

If you watch the video on youtube, then you would notice that full translation is already available below the video.

See that : Alizee and Harel Skaat at rehearsal 27/7/2010 Opera house. (Click on arrow-)

Translation of the Skaat's interview posted by Ron(Fifty_Sixty) on AF (http://www.alizee-forum.com/showthread.php?25574-Concert-Hommage-Serge-Gainsbourg-Tel-Aviv-%282010-07-28%29&p=816415&viewfull=1#post816415)

I was at the show in Eilat(Town in south Israel) yesterday and someone came up to me and told me: "I heard you were going to perform with Alizee" I told him that I was, and he said "Wow Wow" I told him:"Really?" and he told me "Sure, She's like our Madonna"

Interviewer: How is your French?
Skaat: It's improving, I think, although it's very very difficult, because they have vowels that we don't like E and U
Instead of sitting by the pool in the water and enjoy myself I sat down with texts breaking my teeth.

Host: the first meeting between Harel and Alizee was a little embarrassing

Interviewer: Have you met for the first time today?
Skaat:Yes, It was a little embarrassing, like every first meeting. Actually, I don't really know her. I only know her song – Moi Lolita.

"La production se serait mis en contact avec les artistes participants pour une release commerciale du DVD!"

"De plus, la production a révelé que d'autres évenements musicaux en Israel sont envisagés et Alizée pourrait être de nouveau invitée!"

According Alizée Italia: "The film from the concert in Tel Aviv, attended by Alizee July 28 last, is over."

"Production will be in contact with the participating artists for commercial release of the DVD!"

even if she's pressurised not to

that she was pressurised not to perform

"Pressurised" isn't a word. I think what you mean is "Pressured".

pressurized-(Verb)
1. Produce or maintain raised pressure artificially in (a gas or its container): "the mixture was pressurized to 1,900 atmospheres".

pressured-(Verb)
1. Attempt to persuade or coerce (someone) into doing something:
"it might now be possible to pressure him into resigning".

I don't want to divert the thread, but I did want to answer your question.

Keep in mind that there is a large Muslim population in France, and that Israel was in the middle of being villified over some issue at that time. It's easy to see where there could have been negative feeling against Israel at the time, which could have resulted in anyone showing ANY form of support to be pressurized. ;)

yeah, we have been using pressurised and not pressurized, colour and not color since our childhood. Most of the computer applications use American English, that's why I use American English more now. It's unfair to say that BB made a mistake and some of you made this an issue without thinking. If a kid uses color instead of colour here, then others will laugh at him for making such a silly mistake. :p

Ahh, reminds me of when I used to live in New Zealand.. I remember when I first went to school, I did poorly in writing. I couldn't spell worth beans! Theater became theatre, color became colour, favorite became favourite, mom became mum, and so on. Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.

Interesting thing about that different spelling in the U.S. versus the rest of the Anglophonic world. The reason for it is that there were no standardized English spellings in the 18th century. The publication of the first English dictionaries began the process of fixing the spelling of words. But the first such dictionary was not published until 1755 (Samuel Johnson's dictionary), and the process of standardizing spelling had not become complete by 1783, when American independence was recognized. American English spelling was not standardized until the early-middle nineteenth century. So there were two processes of fixing English spelling in the two different countries and they diverged somewhat.

All English-speaking countries outside the U.S. remained under British rule until after spelling was standardized, which is why every other English-speaking country (including India, if India counts as such) uses British spelling.

Off-topic, but kind of fun.

And it's my favourite Vanessa song.

Also, she seems to be wearing so much less makeup than usual in this video... AND LOOKS AMAZING!!!!!

Haha all true! :D

I REALLY get the feeling that Dis-lui toi is the sort of song she deserves to sing. I mean UEDS isn't bad..... this performance has just made me realise how much better her voice is suited to this kind of song as opposed to electropop. I really think she should do this one when she tours in 2011, it's utterly perfect for her.

I feel that she was off-pitch quite a bit in the first song of that video just posted by Mon Maquis(I think the first song is Dis-lui-toi...eh i dunno). But either way, she proved to us that she DEFINITELY has those pipes that we have always heard from her. But yah La Javainise is also one that suits her amazingly well.

SHE SINGS PERFECTLY IN LA JAIVANISE HERE:

Possibly my favorite Alizee video right there:D I just started admiring it about a month ago and have watched it a billion times since...

Hm you think so? I thought she was bang on (but then again, I know practically nothing about the technicalities of music)... compare it with the original by Vanessa here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5aGwkKP6HQ They have very similar voices, which is why I think the song suits Alizée so well.

That's another truly magnificent performance, and the same goes for that - far prefer it to the electropop.

I agree with Aaronius that the first song is a bit pitchy here and there, but not a bad performance. Live singing in general is often a little rough around the edges for many artists. All in all, I think she sounds really good, just maybe a tad rusty, like she hasn't been singing much recently, which stands to reason since she has not been performing regularly. Singing everyday would quickly smooth out those little rough edges. Practice, practice practice...:)

And I agree that these songs suit her voice very well. I like UEdS, but I do think that there are other styles of music that would be better suited to Alizée and her voice. But I give her a lot of credit for trying something different.

Yes! I guess I have a "musician's ear":D But yah if she practiced more, it would defintely smooth out the pitch problems. She was very rusty at the UEDS Launch Party and I almost felt like turning off the video:o Practice is definitely something she needs to do;)

Because you can tell if a singer is good if they have a good live voice; cause with audio software nowadays, anyone can be made into a good singer on an album.

An example of this is Katy Perry(worst singer ever):

Yes, she should go into the soft pop/rock genre or just keep covering Gainsbourg's songs:D

That's what I said. I just don't get it, how is this video out, if the DVD isn't even out?!?! Because I asked on AF if the DVD was coming out, and Ricky83 informed me that PsychAlizee said that they finished editing the DVD and that they are working on the legal side of stuff and getting the production of it ready. So it will be a while til it comes out. So I have no idea how this video got out here, and it's not even the full videos of the songs:(

Don't think they were posted.. so here's the English translation to the lyrics of Dis-lui toi que je t'aime.. it's not great but you'll get the gist of it. :)

Tell her that I love you

Or program it on my ibm

I would not want to hurt you

make me realize that we account for left

Tell her that I love you

And it plugs into the FM

Then he can pick me

Or is it completely disjointed

I Cannot eye to eye

balance it

He does not believe me

Does not announce the color

Between you and me

I see the excitement

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Tell her that I love you

It's always the same rhythm dilemma

Always a day or who knows

How many months of turmoil that will last

Tell her that I love you

Between love and hate love

Questions Issues of full and loose

Who knows how long this will last

Tell him when he repeat the same rhythm

Dedicates her poem

It is the never never never more

Tell her that I love you

Of course it goes back to the same rhythm

Theme insoluble is true

It's you that I love

It's you that I love

For real
