The Alizée DC++ Hub: A User Guide and FAQ

Part One: The Alizée Hub Set-up Guide

AN INTRODUCTION

The Alizée Hub is a file-sharing portal utilizing the Direct Connect Protocol. Like other Peer-to-Peer file sharing options such as Bittorrent, it allows resume-able and rapid downloading of files from multiple sources. Unlike other options, the hub is heavily moderated and the files are marked with a unique hash ID, reducing the chance of picking up potentially damaging malware from a fraudulent or misidentified file. The Hub also boasts very active multiple real-time chat rooms, so it's a great place to connect with other fans and keep up-to-date with the latest news and information regarding our Corsican princess and other female pop stars.

Please note that the Alizée Hub's function is to approve new members, provide chat room functionality, and negotiate connections between clients. The Hub's server hosts no files: it only facilitates the sharing of files between users from their own private collections. The content of your share and it's compliance to the laws in your region are your own responsibility. A detailed guide to the hub's sharing policy will appear in Part Three of this guide.

PART ONE: HOW TO GET STARTED

1) Download the software

The DC++ protocol requires you to install client software, you cannot access the Hub through your web browser. Though there are many DC clients out there,
the best bet for stability is DC++ itself, known by some users as "Vanilla DC++." You can download the latest version at their website here:

http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/download.html

-- there may be other sites claiming a "fast free download" of some version or another. I've downloaded a few of them and an anti-virus scan has occasionally
found malware, root kits and trojans. Play it safe and stick with DC++'s own page at sourceforge.net.

2) Installing the program

Now that you've downloaded the program, you're ready to install DC++. After the usual language settings and selecting the location to install the program, you'll be ready to start the program for the very first time.

3) Configuring DC++

Once you start DC++, you'll be asked to answer a few questions:

Personal Information

a) Nick -- this is the name you'll be known by at the hub. Keep it simple and make it something you
can live with. Using the same nick in the hub as you use in the forum is always a good idea.

b) Email -- this can be handy if you're having problems with the program and need to be contacted.

c) Description -- here is a great place to let people know what they can expect in your share:
"Alizée and Fondue Recipes" or whatever applies to you.

Once you complete the personal info, you'll find a "help" screen to guide you through the rest of the configuration. If there is nothing between DC++ and the internet,
DC++'s new automatic configuration feature will attempt to connect to the internet. If DC++ is unable to obtain an ACTIVE connection due to a router,
software or hardware firewall (or both) coming in between the program and the internet, it will obtain a PASSIVE connection for you. More about advanced
connection settings will appear in Part Two of this tutorial.

4)Preparing your share.

--You'll need at least 10 gigabytes (GB) of Music Videos and/or Live Clips to join the Hub. The Hub's specialty is
female pop singers so videos and clips of Alizée and other singers like her are perfect content to place in your share.
The files you share are presumed to be in the public domain, so DVDs like "En Concert" or mp3s of her albums
are NOT allowed. The Alizée Hub neither permits nor advocates the illegal sharing of copyrighted material.

a) Select "File">>>>>"Settings">>>>>>"Sharing" and click the button "Add folder"

b) Point this toward the folder where you keep your Alizée or other vids. Click "OK."
Give the folder a few minutes to hash.

c) You can add additional folders by repeating this method. The more you share, the easier it
is to gain the respect and priority connections from other hubbers. Remember to add the files
you download from other hubbers to your own share as quickly as possible.

5)Setting Up the Connection to the Hub

a) Click on the "Favorite Hubs" button (the gold star)

b) Select "new" and fill in the following info:

Name: The Alizée Hub

Address: girlpop.hopto.me:1209

c) Click on the "OK" button.

d) Select the new "Alizée Hub" group and click on the button "connect."

-- you're now at the front door!

6) Joining the Hub

--The Alizée Hub is a PRIVATE Hub, so until you are registered by a Hub Operator (or "OP")
and log in with your password, chat and downloading will be disabled.

a) Your mouse cursor should be blinking in the dialog box (in roughly the middle of the screen).
Type the following into the dialog box:

!regme "password" ( replace the phrase "password" with your choice of password.
You don't need the "quotes")

b) Hit "enter" and wait. Though several hub Operators may be online at the time, they may
not be at their keyboards at the moment you decided to join the hub. Please be patient
and wait for someone to get to you. You can send a private message to the OPs if it seems
you've waited a really long time.

c) You will eventually be contacted by an OP. If he asks for you to remove or change some files that
are in your share, be sure and do so and let him know that you've done what was asked. When the OP
finishes your registration, you'll recieve a message with your password info. Be sure and save that and
activate the checkboxes to "save chat" in the "Log" settings.

d) Now click on the "Favorite Hubs" (gold star) button once again and select the Alizée Hub and push the
"Properties" button. Input your password in the space provided ("Password") and select "OK."
DON'T MAKE A MISTAKE TYPING IN YOUR PASSWORD! You won't be able to get in if you make a typographical error here.

e) While you still have the "Favorite Hubs" window open and highlighted on the Alizée Hub, click the button "Move to group"
and select "Auto-connect group." This means when you initiate dc++, it will automatically connect you to the Alizée Hub
and you'll log in with your password. Now you can close the Favorite Hubs window.

f) Go to "File>>>>>"Reconnect" and if you did everything right you should log into the hub as the newest Alizée
Hub member.

***CONGRATULATIONS... YOU ARE NOW A MEMBER OF THE ALIZEE HUB!****

An Alizée Hub FAQ: Easy Solutions to Sticky Problems
PART TWO: ADVANCED HUB CONFIGURATION and CONNECTION SETTINGS

Q): "I'VE FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS IN PART ONE FOR CONNECTING TO THE HUB BUT STILL CAN'T DOWNLOAD ANYTHING, INCLUDING
OTHER HUBBER'S FILE LISTS. WHEN I TRY, I GET THE MESSAGE: "Connection timed out." HOW DO I FIX THIS PROBLEM SO I CAN BEGIN
DOWNLOADING FROM THE HUB?

A): Solution # 1: CHANGE YOUR CONNECTION SETTINGS TO A "PASSIVE" CONNECTION

Chances are, you are behind a firewall or router and it is blocking your ability to connect to the hub.
The quickest fix to this problem, so you can connect to the hub and begin downloading right away,
is switch to a PASSIVE CONNECTION.

Here's how to do that:

a): Go to "File>>>>>>>>Settings>>>>>>>>>Manual Configuration"

b): Select the option "Passive Mode (last resort)"

c): Click "OK"

YOUR CONNECTION SHOULD NOW WORK. TRY DOWNLOADING A FILE LIST FROM AN OPERATOR TO BE SURE.

---OR----

Solution # 2: ENABLE PORT FORWARDING FOR AN "ACTIVE" CONNECTION

Passive connections have their drawbacks: you can only download from ACTIVE users, not other PASSIVE users,
your connection is a bigger resource drain on the hub, and there are limitations of the "Search" function.
Eventually, you'll want to try to enable an ACTIVE CONNECTION.

You will do this by "poking a hole" through the HARDWARE firewall (like a router or hub or some broadband
modems) or SOFTWARE firewall (like Zone Alarm or the Microsoft Internet Firewall)-- or BOTH-- that's blocking
your connection by opening a port (called "Port Forwarding").

Let's get started:

ACTIVE MODE OPTION ONE:

a) If you have a more advanced "Plug and Play" router, sometimes DC++ can configure
the settings for you. The first thing to try is to change your settings to allow that to happen.

Go to "File>>>>>>>Settings>>>>>>>>Manual Configuration"

b) select the option "Let DC++ configure my router."

c) You may have to re-start DC++ or re-boot your computer to release the old (passive) connection
and enable the new (active) one.

ACTIVE MODE OPTION TWO (old school):

Sometimes you've got to do all the work yourself and that involves setting everything up manually.

I) Step One will be to open up ports on your router. This is usually found on your routers setup screen
as "Port Forwarding" or "Gaming." Consult the manual for your router (or look it up online) to
find the settings that apply to you. Be aware that some router/modems provided by ISPs offer NO
Port Forwarding functionality, and in that case you're stuck with either changing your ISP or
settling for a passive connection.

You'll want to point the incoming and outgoing ports (TCP, UDP and TLS)to the same port, let's say port 1209.
Remember this setting: you'll need it later.

II) Step Two will be to make sure you are not being blocked by your software firewall (Zone Alarm, Windows Firewall,
Norton Internet Firewall, etc). In most cases you'll need to create a "firewall exception" for the DC++ program
to pass through unimpeded.

III) Step Three will be to set up DC++ to use these new settings.

a) Go to "File>>>>>>>Settings>>>>>>>>Manual Configuration"

Select the option "Manual port forwarding (I have configured my router by myself)."

b) Type in your external IP address (NOT your internal address which is usually something like "192.168.xxx.xxx").
You can find your external IP address by typing "!myip" into Robocop's chat window or visiting one of the following websites:

http://www.dslreports.com/ip.html

--or--

http://www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm?GetLocation

c) Now assign the ports. We will use the port we opened in the router, (1209) for both our incoming and outgoing connection.
Click "OK."

d) You may have to re-start DC++ or re-boot your computer to release the old (passive) connection
and enable the new (active) one.

Since this is meant to be a concise guide, the detailed instructions to obtain an active connection in each and
every case is well outside the parameters of this FAQ. However, an excellent guide can be found at the DC++ website.

"The Most Frequently Asked Questions About the Alizée Hub"

PART THREE: AN ALIZEE HUB FAQ

Q: "WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR THE HUB?"

Alizée DC++ Hub - Rules:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rule #1 Share at least 10 GBs of Alizée or other video clips. Video clips are
defined as Music Videos or Live TV Performance clips presumed to be
in the public domain.
Rule #2 Have 2 upload slots open, for DC++ use 2 slots per HUB [Scripted]
Rule #3 Don't share any illegal content or non music-related files!!! [Kick + Ban]
Rule #4 Do NOT close your uploads or leave the hub while downloading. You are here
to share! Any attempts to prevent sharing with others will result in a ban.
Rule #5 Public chat is to remain on-topic (music-related subjects only). Foul
language or talk meant to demean others is banned. So that everyone
can participate and chat can be monitored, the primary language is English.
Rule #6 The OPs are here to help you. Failure to respond to their inquiries
in a timely basis will result in being kicked.
Rule #7 You are strictly forbidden to advertise other hubs or websites either in
main or personal chat without the express permission of the hub administrator.
Any attempt to do so will result in a lifetime ban from this hub.
Rule #8 You are here to share. Because of this, we insist that you add all the
clips you download from this hub to your share -- and share them-- for
a minimum of thirty days.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

================================================== ===========

Q: "WHAT MATERIAL IS LEGAL TO SHARE IN THIS HUB?"

A: IT IS LEGAL TO SHARE VIDEO CLIPS AND OTHER MUSIC-RELATED FILES

("Video Clips" are defined as: 1) Promotional Music Videos or 2) Live TV
Performance and Interview clips presumed to be in the public domain.)

PROMOTIONAL MUSIC VIDEOS are what they play on MTV and other similar stations.
Because they are considered "promotional material" by the record companies (who
retain all the rights to distribute them), they have traditionally allowed Music
Videos to be exchanged between fans as long as no money changes hands.

LIVE TV INTERVIEW AND PERFORMANCE CLIPS have generally been recorded from chat, variety
or award shows off of broadcast television and can be distributed in the hub as long as
they are not commercially available, and are being exchanged free-of-charge between
collectors. The exchange of archival works that are otherwise unavailable is permissible
according to the provisions of the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works.

FAN-CREATED DVDs. These are totally acceptable as long as the CONTENT of the disc conforms
to the above guidelines. Be aware, however that a DVD (whether posted as an ISO or
as a duplicate of the contents of the disc) does NOT count as part of your "1 GB of music
clips" requirement. You must have 10 GB of INDIVIDUAL MUSIC CLIPS that can be individually
downloaded to qualify. The clips must also have a name that clearly identifies them (Name
of Artist and Song Title at least) so other people can tell what they are.

OTHER PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS- this may include promotional photos, sound clips, video edits
or fan-created remixes that were either created by yourself, taken from websites or
scanned from out-of-print magazines and are presumed to be in the public domain.
In all cases, the rights of the copyright holder are to be respected and the item is to
be removed upon their request or a request from the operators of this hub.

--In any of these cases, if the copyright holders request an item be removed, we must
honor that request or risk being shut down by our service provider, and the user
posting the clips risks civil penalties and possible criminal prosecution.--

================================================== ==========

Q: "WHAT IS ILLEGAL CONTENT?"

A: "ILLEGAL CONTENT" ARE ITEMS NOT TO BE SHARED IN THIS HUB.
THEY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

1) Pornography. Since there is no adult-verification feature to this hub,
the sharing of pornography is illegal in many countries this hub serves.

2) "Cracked" Programs (or "warez")- This is considered unauthorized distribution
of copyrighted materials and is illegal in every country I am aware of.

3) "Ripped" copies of commercial music CDs or movie DVDs- this once again
is unauthorised distribution of copyrighted material. The stated LEGAL
purpose for peer-to-peer file-sharing applications is to share files that
are NOT commercially available or are licensed by the content creator to
be freely distributed. Please don't forget that fact.

-- If you are asked to remove an item by an Operator, either remove it or risk
being kicked from the hub. Chances are, you are NOT a copyright lawyer,
so arguing your point will only get you BANNED--

The best rule of thumb to use is: if there is a question in your mind about
whether or not something is OK to share, then DON'T SHARE IT.

If you have an questions about a specific item, you can ask an OP for help.

================================================== ==========

Q: "HOW DO I GRANT A FAVORITE USER AN AUTO-SLOT?"

--This means as long as it is activated, the designated user will be automatically
granted a slot no matter how many upload slots you currently have open--

1) Right-click on the nick of the person you want to grant an auto-slot to,
and select "add to favorites."

2) Open your "Favorite Users" Menu (the blue star on the menu bar)

3) Click on the icon in the "Auto grant slot/nick" column next to that
user's nick. The icon should turn green.

--You're done!----

================================================== =======

Q: I CAN NEVER SEEM TO GET AN OPEN SLOT TO DOWNLOAD THE FILES I AM
LOOKING FOR. WHAT CAN I DO?

A: MANY OF THE MORE EXPERIENCED MEMBERS OF THIS HUB HAVE DEVISED
A STRATEGY FOR GETTING THE FILES THEY WANT. THIS IS JUST ONE
WAY TO GO ABOUT IT:

1) Go to "File>>>>Settings>>>>Advanced" and change your settings to
"Don't delete file lists when exiting". This will eliminate
the need to download the same file lists over and over again.

2) You can now use a user's file list that is large and particularly
well-organized as a "shopping list" WITHOUT having to wait
for a slot from that user, which could potentially take WEEKS
if it's one of the more popular members of that hub.

3) Right-click on the file you want and select "Search for alternates"
Another window will pop up. Give it a minute or two to complete
the search.

4) Scroll over to the "slots" heading and look for someone with an
open slot. "0/4" means they have no available slots out of four slots
allocated. "3/4" means they have three slots free. Good! Double-click
on that file with that user and your download will start right away.

5) Now that your download has begun, you can take the other users that are
listed as having the file you're downloading and add them as a "backup
source" in case the person you're downloading from goes offline.
Right-click on the other users in the list and select "download to..."
At the bottom of the menu that pops up, you'll see the file name you're
now downloading. Click on that listing, and that user will be added as an
alternate source. You can repeat this process for each user the search
function found for that file. You can also use this technique for every
file in your download queue.

-- Remember that the wider the variety of vids you have in your share the easier
it will be to "trade auto-slots" with another user, which is another favored
way to get slots (see above for "How To Grant an Auto-Slot"). If all you
have in your share is the minimum 10 GB it took to get into the hub in the
first place, the harder you will find it to get a slot from other people
over a period of time. The key to your success in a file-sharing hub is very
simple---- SHARE FILES!---

---GOOD LUCK. IF YOU NEED MORE HELP OR ADVICE, BE SURE AND
ASK AN OP OR A VIP MEMBER OF THE HUB--

================================================== =======

Q: I AM HAVING PROBLEMS PLAYING BACK THE VIDEOS I HAVE DOWNLOADED.
AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG OR ARE THE FILES DEFECTIVE?

A: MOST OF THE TIME IT IS EITHER A CODEC PROBLEM OR INCOMPATIBLE
VIDEO PLAYBACK SOFTWARE. HERE IS WHAT TO DO:

1): Go to the website "http://www.codecs.com/"

2) Download and install the following codec pack:

The "K-Lite Codec Pack" -- this contains EVERYTHING needed to play virtually any file found on this hub. The FULL version
also contains the latest version of "Media Player Classic" (also known as "MPC") which is a very popular and stable
media player that you should install on your computer AT LEAST as a "backup player."

--THIS SHOULD SOLVE 95% OF ANY VIDEO PLAYBACK PROBLEMS YOU MIGHT EXPERIENCE.

================================================== =======

Q: I KEEP ON GETTING THE FOLLOWING ERROR MESSAGE:

1) "No connection could be made because the target machine
actively refused it."

--or--

2) "A connection attempt failed because the connected party did
not properly respond after a period of time, or established
connection failed because connected host has failed to respond."

--or--

3) It says "connected" but nothing else happens. The hub seems dead.

DID I DO SOMETHING WRONG? HAVE ALIENS TAKEN OVER THE EARTH?
WHAT'S GOING ON: I NEED TO KNOW ?!?!?!?!?

A: THE HUB IS UNRESPONSIVE FOR THE MOMENT.

-- The cause of this could be for a variety of reasons: the hub software has crashed,
an Operating System bug, the hub server is down for service or the host computer has
"frozen" and needs to be re-booted.--

Be patient: you can rest assured the hub will be back up as soon as possible. Stay connected
to the hub: your running downloads and uploads will continue with no problems. Some of the more
popular hubs have a secondary site or a "sister hub" that you can visit while the main hub is down.

In the case of the Alizée Hub, it is the POPASIA HUB located at:

"popasia.no-ip.org:23"

You might want to add this Hub to your Favorite Hubs to be safe. Keep in mind to connect to BOTH hubs
(or any two hubs) you'll need FOUR open slots (two per hub).

"File">>>>>"Settings">>>>>>"Sharing" Change the value of "upload slots to at least "4".

Keep in mind each hub has it's own rules so make sure you're following the rules of that hub
if you're planning an extended stay. Since the POPASIA Hub is an Asian Pop Hub, it requires
a share that contains at least 1GB of Asian Pop.

*** This should cover most of the issues one would encounter visiting the Alizée Hub. Feel free to contact me
at the hub with any additional questions*******

How to connect to the Alizée DC++ Hub Tutorial

Alright, I call for another illustrated tutorial to simplify things and enable this pearl to errrrrrrbody.
Now grab a child and a bag of corns cuase it's time for another cozy point and learn adventure ;)

1. Launch your best browser and pay a little visit to your good old friend Google.

http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff341/tomtentp/tutorial%20dc/1.jpg

2. After the search for "DC++" your top hit should be sourceforges link to the download section, click it!

http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff341/tomtentp/tutorial%20dc/2.jpg

3. Click the big green download button, you should be able to hit it or else spend 24 hours sobering up before attempting this.

http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff341/tomtentp/tutorial%20dc/3.jpg

4. Save the file somewhere you can remember it, like the desktop?

http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff341/tomtentp/tutorial%20dc/4.jpg

5. Start the file and follow the install steps by spam-clicking the next button as fast as you possibly can.

http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff341/tomtentp/tutorial%20dc/5.jpg

6. When the installation is complete you should be able to find DC++ in your start-menu, launch it off!

http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff341/tomtentp/tutorial%20dc/6.jpg

7. When you start the application the first time the Settings window should pop up automagically (otherwise open it, File>Settings).
Enter:
Your nick name (any)
Your E-mail adr. (any, not important)
Your description (something extremely nifty)
Your Upload speed (not important)

http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff341/tomtentp/tutorial%20dc/7.jpg

8. Next up is the Connection tab. This one is the trickiest.
If you are in luck you have a completely open connection to the internet without any firewalls in the hardware outside your computer (router, modem) and can use the first setting My computer is ...... This is probably not the case thou so let's move on to the next option.

The 2nd, UPnP... choice is what I use and should work with most modern routers. It opens up a connection for itself and does not need any actions at all from the user. I recommend you try this one if you have no clue whatsoever what kind of setup you've got.

If you cannot use UPnP then you must do the hard work yourself by manually opening the ports you want to use in your router. This is a bit tricky and if you find yourself in need of this solution I'm gonna have to redirect you to a website which are made for these kind of setups, namely Port Forwarding (http://portforward.com/).
You will need to find your own router in the that list and read the guide on how to "forward a port", then you just type in that port in the TCP/IP
and UDP fields along with your External IP-Adress (you can get this by visiting this (http://www.whatismyip.com/)website).

If everything should fail and you cannot get anything to work then you must use the last and crappiest option, the Passive Mode. This will decrease your ability to find files but most importantly your ability to share files, which is the very thing this hub is about. You should atleast try the other options before resorting to this lame option.

http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff341/tomtentp/tutorial%20dc/8.jpg

9. In the Download section you just add 2 folders.
1st the folder in which you want all your shared and downloaded data to be located.

2nd the folder which you want "halfway downloaded" files to linger until they are completely downloaded. Keeping these two appart from each other will prevent you from sharing partial/broken versions of real files that will mess up the system.

http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff341/tomtentp/tutorial%20dc/9.jpg

10. Finally we need to setup your Share.
Simply press the Add Folder button and point to the same folder that you used in the 1st field in the Download tab.
Press OK to finish the setup.

http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff341/tomtentp/tutorial%20dc/10.jpg

11. Ok so your setup and ready to go.
Press the yellow star icon on the top to open the Favourites window.
Here you will add all the hubs you want to be able to quickly connect to.
Click on the New... button.

http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff341/tomtentp/tutorial%20dc/11.jpg

12.
Enter:
The hub name (any)
The hub adr. (currently girlpop.hopto.me)
You nick (preferably the same as before)
Leave the password blank for now.

Press OK and then double-click the new server in the list to enter the server.

http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff341/tomtentp/tutorial%20dc/12.jpg

13. You will now end up in the most epic hub there is for the time being, take a minute to collect yourself.

Type !regme followed by a desired password to call upon the gods with your desire to register on the server.
For example !regme pass123

You might have to wait awhile until a mod can fix the password to your nick, but be patient. Sooner or later a new window will pop up with the title of this helpful mods name, and he will tell you that you have been granted and maybe even chat alittle if he's not too busy.

EDIT:---
Failed to mention that you will need to have the 1 gigabyte Alizée share ready for the mod to "investigate". If you don't have it ready chances are you will recieve bolts of lightening instead of a nice chat, along with the task to fix the 1 gig before trying again.

Read bottom text of this post for a quick howto tip.
EDIT:---

After this moment you can log into the site with a password, but you need to disconnect from the server first to relogin. Close the hub window by right-clicking the "Alizée DC++...." tab (Green TV on the side of it) and selecting Close.

http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff341/tomtentp/tutorial%20dc/14.jpg

14. After closing the hub you should now find yourself looking at the Favourites tab again. Right-click the hub in the list and select Properties.

This should bring up the same window you edited not long ago, simply add your new password to the Password field and press OK.
Now enter the Hub again by double-clicking it et voila! You are now a registered user of the private network!

http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff341/tomtentp/tutorial%20dc/15.jpg

15. Once back inside the Hub again try clicking the Search icon that looks like a magnifying glass in the top of the screen.

This is where you search the other users shares for goodies, just type the search word and filter your search with the criteriums if you which.

A general rule is that the higher data amount (MB) a file takes the better quality it is. Also, if you download a file that has many Users then that file is shared to you from many different locations thus making it faster to download and more likely to be the "official" one.

So if we want to watch that dancer fall in the Adélaïde performance we make a quick search and find one file to be the most interesting.
One double-click later and we are in the progress of downloading that file.

If you find the flickering messy in the lower section of the screen you could change the view from Connections to Downloads for a better view of what is going on.

http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff341/tomtentp/tutorial%20dc/16.jpg

16. When the file is done downloading you can find it in the Finished Downloads tab by clicking the icon with a green folder with a V on it.

Here you can witness all your downloads and with a double-click open the file of choice.

The video will shoot off and we can now watch the video and that dancer just tumble down the stage hahahaha... :blink:

The share limit to join this hub is 1 GB of alizée material, of course no copyrighted stuff like released CDs and DVDs. If you don't have 1 gig Alizée stuff then shame on you!

No but seriously, it shouldn't be hard to accumulate. Just put togheter all your Alizée pictures and download some youtube videos or simply snatch a couple from this sites Video Section FTP (http://alizeeamerica.com/media/).

Remember this is not a leeching spot for greedy people, you are ment to share what you have with everyone else. If you fail to do so you will be banned from the hub and fitted with a Hat-Of-Shame accordingly.

There are many other functions and tricks to know about in DC++ but francly, I have held your hand so hard throughout this tutorial already that if you don't do something yourself now you'r probably gonna have to move back to moma again :p

Good luck people!

Thanks for the superb illustrated tutorial, Tomtentp! I think it will work for just about anyone with opposable thumbs!

This post contains all the hub rules and detailed sharing policy:

Q: "WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR THE HUB?"

Alizée DC++ Hub - Rules:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rule #1 Share at least 1Gb of Alizée or other video clips. Video clips are
defined as Music Videos or Live TV Performance clips presumed to be
in the public domain.
Rule #2 Have 2 upload slots open, for DC++ use 2 slots per HUB [Scripted]
Rule #3 Don't share any illegal content or non music-related files!!! [Kick + Ban]
Rule #4 Do NOT close your uploads or leave the hub while downloading. You are here
to share! Any attempts to prevent sharing with others will result in a ban.
Rule #5 Public chat is to remain on-topic (music-related subjects only). Foul
language or talk meant to demean others is banned. So that everyone
can participate and chat can be monitored, the primary language is English.
Rule #6 The OPs are here to help you. Failure to respond to their inquiries
in a timely basis will result in being kicked.
Rule #7 You are strictly forbidden to advertize other hubs or websites either in
main or personal chat without the express permission of the hub administrator.
Any attempt to do so will result in a lifetime ban from this hub.
Rule #8 You are here to share. Because of this, we insist that you add all the
clips you download from this hub to your share -- and share them-- for
a minimum of thirty days.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

================================================== ===========

PROMOTIONAL MUSIC VIDEOS are what they play on MTV and other simular stations.
Because they are considered "promotional material" by the record companies (who
retain all the rights to distribute them), they have traditionally allowed Music
Videos to be exchanged between fans as long as no money changes hands.

LIVE TV INTERVIEW AND PERFORMANCE CLIPS have generally been recorded from chat, variety
or award shows off of broadcast television and can be distributed in the hub as long as
they are not commercially available, and are being exchanged free-of-charge between
collectors. The exchange of archival works that are otherwize unavailable is permissable
according to the provisions of the Berne International Copyright Convention.

You must have 1GB of INDIVIDUAL MUSIC CLIPS that can be individually
downloaded to qualify.

================================================== ==========

Man Digimaze, great choice to show people the hub. Like TomentP said, we need to preserve Alizee for decades to come and this is a great way to do it, while we all get to enjoy the great videos and pictures that are in the hub. I encourage everyone that can, even if you only have like 5GB left on your HDD, to get DC++.....Alizee!!!

Is it possible to use this on a mac?

Two other possibilities are to use the PC version with an emulator or recompile the Linux version.

Of the two Mac users in the hub that I am aware of, one uses an emulator, and the other uses ShakesPeer.

I found there are several options:

1) Make sure you are using the latest version of ShakesPeer. They may have corrected the problem.

2) You can try MacDC++ found at:

http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15390

-- it is an Alpha version so there might be stability issues.

3) One Mac user in the past used Valknut found at:

http://wxdcgui.sourceforge.net/

--keep in mind this was about 4 or 5 years ago so the current version may not have the support for the security features that keep many Mac users with older software from entering the hub.

4) At the Valknut site, one user made the same suggestion that I did initially: use LinuxDC++ found at:

http://linuxdcpp.berlios.de/articles.php?um=index

--you will naturally have to recompile it for the Mac OS.

5)The one Mac user I was able to talk to decided that the easiest thing to do was use an emulator with the PC version of DC++. He reports no problems.

I hope this helps...

YET ANOTHER TROUBLESHOOTING FAQ

Q: "WHAT IS THE "AUTO-LOGIN" FEATURE AND HOW DO I ENABLE IT?"

A: YOU'LL NEVER HAVE TO REMEMBER YOUR PASSWORD AGAIN.

HERE IS HOW TO ENABLE IT:

Step One-- open your "Favorite Hubs" list (the "gold star" on the menu)

Step Two-- find the listing for the Alizée hub and left-click on it

Step Three-- left-click on the "Properties" button

Step Four-- type in your password in the "password" space
(carefull! don't make a mistake!)

Step Five-- left-click the "OK" button, then close the "Favorite Hubs" window

----NOW YOU'LL LOG IN AUTOMATICALLY.

================================================== =======

Q: "OK: I'M REGISTERED AND I LOGGED BACK IN, BUT I CAN'T DOWNLOAD ANYTHING:
NOT EVEN FILE LISTS. WHEN I TRY, I GET THE MESSAGE:

"Connection timed out"

HOW DO I FIX THIS PROBLEM SO I CAN BEGIN DOWNLOADING FROM THE HUB?

A: Solution # 1: CHANGE YOUR CONNECTION SETTINGS TO "PASSIVE".

Chances are, you are behind a firewall or router and it is blocking your
ability to connect to the hub. The quickest fix to this problem, so you
can connect to the hub and begin downloading right away, is switch to a
PASSIVE CONNECTION.

Here's how to do that:

a): Go to "File>>>>>>>>Settings>>>>>>>>>Connection Settings"

b): Enable the setting "Firewall (passive, last resort)"

c): Click "OK"

YOUR CONNECTION SHOULD NOW WORK. TRY DOWNLOADING A FILE LIST FROM
AN OPERATOR TO BE SURE.

---OR----

Solution # 2: ENABLE PORT FORWARDING AND AN "ACTIVE" CONNECTION

Passive connections have their drawbacks: you can only download from
ACTIVE users, not other PASSIVE users, your connection is a bigger
resource drain on the hub, and there are limitations of the "Search"
function. Eventually, you'll want to try to enable an ACTIVE CONNECTION.

You will do this by "poking a hole" through the HARDWARE firewall (like
a router or hub or some broadband modems) or SOFTWARE firewall (like Zone
Alarm or the Microsoft Internet Firewall)-- or BOTH-- that's blocking
your connection by opening a port (called "Port Forwarding").

Since this is meant to be a concise guide, the detailed instructions to
do this are well outside the parameters of this FAQ. However, an excellant
guide can be found at the DC++ Forum. The link to the "How can I set up
active mode" FAQ is below:

http://dcpp.net/faq/index.php?sid=582823&lang=en&action=artikel&cat=7&id=1&artlang=en

The "Broadband Reports" website has an excellant dc++ FAQ also. Here's a link:

http://www.dslreports.com/faq/dc

--GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY DOWNLOADING!---

================================================== ======

3) Put a "check" in the box in the "Auto grant slot/nick" column next to that
user's nick.

--YOU'RE DONE!----

Well said, buddy.:)

There are enough VIPs and Operators online at any one time that you can be assured there are at least 2 or 3 copies of every legally trade-able Alizee file known to mankind available for your downloading pleasure. I keep "one of everything" in my share with the exception of those fan-created DVDs (all the individual vids on the DVD are there in my share anyway) because of disc space considerations.

The main thing to know about the Alizee Hub is that with it's multiple real-time chat-rooms and long history, is that we are not just some anonymous peer-to-peer file-sharing site, we are (or at least strive to be) a COMMUNITY.

Though we explore the whole wide world of girl pop in our combined collection of Vids and Clips, our focus in main chat tends to be on Alizee, and is a great place to swap files and look for the latest news and information regarding Alizee.

Though it can be a lot of work to set up and configure (at least at first -- that's the reason for all those FAQs and "How-to"s) I think you'll find once you'll been with us for a while that the Hub will be an essential part of your daily diet of Alizee!

-- I hope that answers your question and we hope to see you in the hub.

THE ALTERNATE HUB AND HOW YOU GET THERE

Q: "WHERE DO I GO WHEN THE ALIZEE HUB IS OFFLINE FOR SERVICE?"

--and--

Q: "I NEED THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF ALIZEE AND I NEED IT RIGHT NOW!
IS THERE ANY WAY TO GET TWO DOWNLOAD SLOTS FROM USERS?"

A:The answer to BOTH questions is ---YES: there is a second hub in our
network called "POPASIA." As you might guess from the name, you clever person,
POPASIA is an Asian Pop Hub. Yes, many Alizee Hub members belong to that hub also.

The address for POPASIA is:
"popasia.no-ip.org:23""

--I'd suggest creating a listing for POPASIA in your "Favorite Hubs" and even if you decide
not to bathe yourself in the countless terabytes of Japanese and Korean pop goodness in that hub,
at least you'll know where to go when the Alizee Hub is offline for service.

Q: "DO I HAVE TO LOGIN WITH A PASSWORD LIKE THE ALIZEE HUB?"

A: No, POPASIA is a PUBLIC hub so there is no need to register like there is
with the Alizee Hub, which is a PRIVATE hub.

Q: "ARE THERE ANY RULES IN THE POPASIA HUB?"

A: Yes, you are expected to keep chat polite and on-topic (music related
subjects only). You are expected to follow the guidance of the hub Operators
and respond to their messages. Though it's OK to hang out in POPASIA for a few hours
(no more than a day or two) WITHOUT following their content guidelines
while you are waiting for the Alizee Hub to re-open, the requirements for STAYING
in the POPASIA Hub are:

1GB minimum of Asian content (j-pop, k-pop, anime, etc).

So with 1GB of asian pop and 1GB of western stuff (like Alizee), you can be a
member of two great hubs! Not a bad deal if you ask me. :)

--thanks for your support and I hope to see you in BOTH hubs!

That's unfair criticism. If you don't like other stuff then don't check those files. Why bother about that?

This hub promotes sharing of music videos especially from female singers.

New address is girlpop.hopto.me

Alizée is still main singer on that hub because that's where all this started. But now it's not limited to Alizée only.

I think this is for the best. The hub is filled with great music and other stuff you otherwise might never even give a chance, just like Zée ;)

A bit of a history lesson: the Alizée Hub has NEVER been an "Alizée only" hub. It is, always has been, and always WILL welcome singers from all over the globe. If all you want is Alizée, then I'm fine with that. Then just download Alizée from me as you are doing right at this moment. It's easy: her name begins with "A" so you can ignore everything else below that name.

The Hub is supported by a bunch of great people who populate the hub day in, day out, for weeks and months and sometimes years. When I broadened the scope in 2006 to include Asian pop singers too, we hit gold: 80% of all j-pop stars are female, so they fit right in.... and what a loyal group of fans they were! They are a major component of the core group of the hub and they are sharing what they got with great generosity: whether it is Alizee, or Girls' Generation, or Ren & Stimpy (I'm puzzled about the last one myself - lol).

Not meaning to hurt anyone's feelings, but Alizée's television appearances have become few and far between in the last several years. If I was to set such restrictive policies as making it an "Alizée only" hub then the next time you need some Alizée media after not visiting the hub for months (as many Alizee fans do), there might not be an Alizée Hub to go back to.

Just giving you something to think about.

P.S. I just asked the guy who was sharing the Ren and Stimpy file to remove it. In the future, it would be best to contact me directly through the hub's messaging system about a file that may not be suitable for the hub. That way I can deal with it right away and not read about it in some random forum post.

Thanks.

Thanks, digimaze. I want to take this opportunity to let you know that I'm going to be in n out of the hub. I've been having problems with my computer (ISP, virus, HDD, etc.) I resolved the virus issue but still having problems with other stuff. But like I said, I plan on being there for a long time, not just the required 30-day re-sharing period. It is a great site and I truly appreciate what you guys have been doing there and I want to be part of that. My Alizee collections have grown more than ten-fold because of the hub. I've got some other stuff from there as well. So, again, I just want to apologize if you don't see me there everyday, or see my connection drop every now and then. :2_thumbs:

Yes we are all suffering the consequences of internet metering (which limits how much you can download each month) and the spring floods in Thailand (where nearly 90% of all hdd's are manufactured).

Hard drives are sort of the "coin of the realm" in the world of hubs and music clip collecting. Though 1 and 2 TB drives have doubled -- and in some cases tripled -- in price, the BIGGER drives (3TB) haven't if you need one right away. Otherwise, you can expect prices to drop and stablize in Spring.

The best bet, and cheapest way is to install an internal drive rather than opting for an external drive. Internal drives tend to last longer too: any storage medium that is being powered by the same plastic brick you see on a $59 router is gonna be prone to damage every time there is a surge or brownout at your home.

Naturally, we are a "full service hub" so if any of you need advice on increasing your storage capacity of your computer or need some quick tech support, we are a good place to stop by and ask a few questions. The only requirements are that you are a registered member of the hub and a fan of Alizee.

Finally, the only person I expect to be at the hub 24/7 is ME. :))

Best of luck to all of you struggling through these difficult times and I'll see you all at the hub!

What's the problem?

I started to use DC again, but I don't know what goes wrong. Just, I go to that hub, well, it takes 2-3 min and I gets kick off. And if I try to search something when I'm connected, I find nothing.
Not very nice to install DC only to notice that it doesn't works...

And sharing can't be problem, I think.

It's ok now, I just needed some confirm to log to hub. Now I'm there :)

As a wise man once said: "When in doubt. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS." The security bot posts a warning to all unregistered users every time they enter the hub that the Alizee Hub is a private hub and you must REGISTER to participate. Most issues can be resolved by reading my FAQ at the start of this thread, so I'm not going to re-post it here again.

Suffice it to say if you ask for help, you will receive it: as you discovered as I spent nearly two hours with you resolving your various issues until I felt you were connected to the hub properly.

Naturally the time I can dedicate to tech support to an individual hubber is limited, so more advanced issues like increasing your speed, multi-sourcing, etc. are best left to my FAQ and the many tutorials available on the web.

I'm glad you're connected now and I hope you enjoy your stay at the hub.

Wow... a lot to answer here:

1) POPASIA is NOT my hub though I pull enough weight to allow you guys in that hub for a few days so you can sort your connection out. I explained that policy in my post regarding our "sister hub" earlier in this thread. I even have a second nick with an active connection ("Eza-migid") so passive users can grab all that Alizee goodness from me. BUT.... the rules of the POPASIA Hub is that you need 1GB of Asian stuff to stay in that hub, and the agreement I have with the hub owner is you guys (and girls) can stay for a "few days" without that asian stuff. With 3TB hard drives out there, it wouldn't kill anyone to drop 1GB of asian files in your share to be in TWO hubs, would it? There's a "Golden Age of Korean Pop" going on (10,000 French fans turned out at Paris Bercy to see Girls Generation and others perform on February 8th) so it's a fun change of pace. Alizee won't mind. She would say "download whatever you like, just as long as you love me the most."

2) Lillypad had the EXACT SAME rules as the Alizee Hub does: the only differance is they allowed copyrighted material (like the En Concert DVD and mp3 rips of her albums). Not only do I consider that disrespectful to Alizee, but that's the exact policy that's getting other file-sharing sites shut down all over the world. Next year the Alizee Hub celebrates it's tenth anniversary. It would be unfortunate if we didn't make it because some knucklehead got us shut down by sharing copyrighted material.

Anyways I hope that answers the concerns expressed to me. The main rules of the hub are simple: just keep your posts in main chat polite and respectful to others (one guy called us the "Love Hub"), don't share copyrighted material, and try to spend some serious online time to share what you've gotten with others. "Sharing is caring" says Mr. T at the POPASIA Hub.

Well that's about it and I hope to see you all at the hub!

Well I finally got my connectivity issue resolved with DC hub, thanks mostly to Tomtemps post #6. Now I have to figure out how to find Alizee files. Now if you click on hubs, you get a list of many hubs around the world; the biggest ones seem to be Russian. Are all these hubs safe to go to?

From what I'm reading in the instructions, if you want to go to a hub, you can either just click on it, or you can do it by adding it as a favorite and filling out the entries for it. When you connect with the hub, an admin will check out your stuff and if he's happy, give you a password. Is this right?

Is there a way you can search these hubs for Alizee music before directly connecting witht them? I connected with a few of the Russian hubs, because they seem to be the biggest and some give instructions in English, but most seem to be in Russian.

User22

Do you want to connect to the Alizée hub? Cause that is a much safer option since none of their stuff is copyrighted except TV appearances obviously.

If you go into other hubs, there is no guarantee it will get shutdown and you'll start getting tracked from downloading from them. This is cause most of the popular ones have TBs and TBs of copyrighted material.

digimaze

You won't find our hub on any hub list because we are a private hub and we don't promote the hub outside of the Alizee forums, otherwise like any other private hub you must be invited.

When you enter the hub you'll select your own password actually, and further up in the thread you'll find instructions for "Auto-login" which simplifies things once you're registered.

No, public hubs are plagued with poor control over content, and there are no consequences for a selfish person who doesn't want to share. The Alizee Hub as a matter of fact was filled with warez, porn, pirated games and rips of Alizee's entire CD catalog back in the days it was a public hub.

But private hubs, however can be heavily moderated and as a result are small and focused and seem more like a "Club" than an anonymous peer-to-peer file sharing service.

No one wants to get shut down, which is why some sites like Youtube will delete files clearly in the public domain just to be on the "'safe side." Many times just ONE COMPLAINT from anyone is enough to get a clip pulled. This attitude has had a chilling effect on the ability of Alizee fans everywhere to share their creative work and hopefully the Internet Gods will eventually calm down and more reasonable minds will prevail. Meanwhile, you've got the hub.

I hope this answers your questions and we'll be looking forward to seeing you in the hub!

I finally figured out how to connect to the different hubs after going back and reading through all the lines of instructions. Funny how that works. Thanks for all the help from everybody. When I joined the Alizee hub, somebody was uploading one of my files. I was waiting to see how long it would take, so I figured I would play some freecell while waiting and I couldn't believe the choppiness I was having with that and it was just one upload. When I can find the time, I do a little bit of gaming (BF3) and I can imagine what problems it would cause with that.

I think what I will do is I have an older desktop that I use on rare occassions. I'll set that one up, with the hub. Hook it up to my router and leave it on all the time if it doesn't cause me any lag issues.

Hopefully I can now get a higher res version of a couple of files I need to finish out my video.

Well I finally got the DC++ hub connection resolved and tried it out as far as downloading. Somebody was uploading one of my files. I was waiting to see how long it would take, so I figured I would play some freecell while waiting and I couldn't believe the choppiness I was having with that and it was just one upload. When I can find the time, I do a little bit of gaming (BF3) and I can imagine what problems it would cause with that.

That's a great idea! I have an older computer (not that much older, just a slower CPU and filled with hard drives) that I use as a file server for the hub. My newer rig is what I play games on. Having a computer that handles your online downloads is not only the best idea in a pure bandwidth perspective, but by limiting file sharing across your network you can assure yourself that the various little "bugs" that you can pick up from trolling the internet for Alizee treats doesn't spread across the rest of your system. Don't ever retire a computer until it reaches the "doorstop" category!

Be sure and stay online long enough to get registered. You paid us a visit at 6AM my time and I was still firmly attached to my pilllow!

THe hub has it's own culture so to speak and the two factors that build up your reputation within the hub is:

1) the amount of time you spend online, and
2) your posts containing new content in main chat.

We have two of the most active chatrooms in the dc++ world and one of our goals is to make sure that every Alizee Hubber gets the latest files as quickly as possible. Since you only have access to the chat that was posted while you are actually online, I and the people that moderate main chat (currently pepon66 and Lebanencheg) try to make sure that the newer content is frequently re-posted until we're sure that everyone has it. I save all major posts as a textfile, so if you took a little "vacation" from the hub just PM me and I'll try to shoot you a list as soon as I'm back in front of my computer.

The reverse is also true: if you find something that you don't think is being shared by the hub at that moment, by all means POST IT in main chat. That way we can make sure it finds it's way into as many hands as possible.

"alizee.myftp.org" will no longer work. You will no longer be forwarded to the hub.

The correct address for the Alizee Hub is: "girlpop.hopto.me."

Well I finally was able to get DC++ hub working several days ago, but I'm having trouble finding a good quality version of her performance of J'en ai marre in Mexico last year (Acamedia). I'm putting together a video using mostly Jam clips and I really like the results so far. I've used mostly clips from the early years. I don't really like the clips from the Psych era, so I probably wont use them, but I do hope to use some clips from that performance in Mexico as well as some from her Generation 2000 performance.

The Acamedia clip I found is not that good a quality and there's at least one scene where I wanted to crop out the other singer and that reduces the resolution even more so I need to find a hd clip if there is one out there.

The other problem I had is with the Generation 2000 performance, I could only find it in mpeg 4 and flv formats and for some reason, even though I have a program for converting flv, it plays real fast for some reason, so I'm hoping to find some other format of this performance, maybe mpeg 2?

Our sister hub POPASIA is an Asian Pop Hub. Korean Pop, including Girls' Generation (aka SNSD) is a big part of it.

Since the Alizee Hub is an international fan site that focuses on female pop singers, it is a good source too. At this moment I've got 313 GB of Girls Generation stuff in my share. I've posted the info in this thread before, but here it goes again:

POPASIA: "For the Best in Asian Pop"

Hub Address: popasia.no-ip.org:23

Hub type: Public (no password is needed)

Membership Requirements: 1 GB of Asian Pop in share.

--you'll find most of the guys in BOTH hubs at this time so anyone familliar with the gang at the Alizee Hub will find a lot of names they know--

(as an aside, you might also want to investigate our vast collection of other Korean acts like KARA, Lee Hyori, Sistar, Secret, 4minute, BoA, Brown Eyed Girls, f(x), After School and many others.)

Be sure the adress you are connecting to is "girlpop.hopto.me", and your connection is set to passive. You can change it to active once you are in the hub (file > settings > connectivity > Let DC++ determine the best connection settings).
If the "you must at least have 1GB of files" error persists, try to press F5, or go to "File > Refresh File List".

If that doesn't solve your problem, please post the problem in full detail here.

Let me see if I can help. Yes, there are two hubs in our network, Here's how to get hooked up:

1) If you are trying to connect to the POPASIA Hub, then follow the above instructions from Swagboy and use the address"popasia.no-ip.org:23" . If it's the Alizee Hub you want, then use the address "girlpop.hopto.me"

2) You need 1GB of content to join each hub. The acceptable contents are mainly Music Vids and Live Clips, but see elsewhere in this thread if you need further details. The content must be "'hashed" (officially added to your share) before you enter the hub. To kick this process into high priority, use the command "File>>>>>> refresh file list." Unless you have a large share (over 100GB) this process should only take a couple of minutes.

3) Once you get past that roadblock, you can seek tech support from the OPs (the nicks with the "gold key" next to them) if you have any questions or need additional help. Other chat functions will be closed to you until you are registered, but at least we can help you sort things out in real time. Keep in mind none of us may be in front of our computer the moment you ask your question, but please be patient and stay online at the hub and someone will get back to you right away.

4) Check out this thread. All the answers are here, but it might be a little scattered right now, for which I apologize. There is a new and improved "User Guide and FAQ" that hopefully we can get installed at the top of this thread ASAP.

Good Luck and I hope to see you at the hub!

I think I've mentioned this before, but the place to go if the Alizee Hub is offline is our sister hub POPASIA. You'll find instructions in the FAQ on how to get connected at that place.

The reason why I mention this is the Hub will be changing internet service providers and that could mean the hub could be offline for several days.:omg:

I know most of you that use the Hub are used to nearly 24 hours a day, seven days a week connectivity and we'll try to return to that pattern as soon as we resolve the ISP issue.

Don't worry buddy: you're already set up at POPASIA so you will hardly notice the difference. That hub is filled with the same dudes that are in the Alizee Hub and Mr T will be hosting it, so that there will be zero down time. With Alizee more active than she has been since maybe 2003, I can assure you if we have any downtime we'll try to keep it to a minimum.

Hey Everyone:

I've had a couple people in the last few days discover that their Hub account was closed. I know that occasionally time can get away from you but it's important that you log into the hub at least ONCE A YEAR to keep that from happening to you.

Well, it happened. What should you do?

Though it is true that you can't use main chat or download any of our 20 TB+ of tasty vids without being a currently registered member, all is not lost: you can still send a message to me or any of the other OPs and we can get you back in the game in no time.

In fact, your best bet to reach me for any questions or problems is through a PM in the Hub, since I am online there virtually 24/7. It might take a few hours before I'm in front of my keyboard and can answer you, but this is the fastest way to get results.

On Monday June 30th, Microsoft seized the sub-domain "no-ip.org." They claim this (and several others that were seized) are a domain
commonly used to distribute malware. After they eliminate the affected sites, they claim they will return the sub-domains "soon."
If this does not happen within a week from the date of this post, I will change the sub-domain of the Popasia Hub and post the
new domain right here.

Sorry for the inconvenience. The Alizee Hub, however works as usual.

lol... Yes The Hub HAS been closed twice for more than a few hours: once in 2007 when I moved from California to Arizona and for two days this week during a move now that I have bought a new home. Other than that we've been in continuous operation since 2003, a fact that I am very proud of.

Naturally, like everything else in life, circumstances have necessitated changes over the years and we'll go over a few of them since I haven't done a Hub status update in quite a while.

1) POPASIA MERGER: It seemed a little silly (and maybe a little racist) to have a second Hub based solely of the ethnicity of the performer. Both Hubs have been merged to create the "Girl Pop Idol Hub" other wise known as "The Hub." Nothing else has changed except share size.

2) SHARE SIZE: This has not changed since 2005 and it's about damn time, and since you can use ANY qualifying female Pop vocalist clips to gain entry, it should not be a problem. We were plagued with people that would only share the minimum 1 GB, go into a download frenzy, then once they had the files they wanted, LEAVE without contributing anything. The Hub is a community, not just a free download site, and if you want it to grow and prosper then you need to do your part. I think I can say that without question that we have the largest collection of Alizee live clips and televised interviews available online anywhere in the world, but it takes each and every one of you to contribute to make sure that newer Alizee stuff gets online and shared by the Hub as soon as possible. So here are the changes:

REGISTERED MEMBER: 10 GB of qualifying clips. If you need to know what qualifies, then look at the top of this thread.

VIP MEMBERSHIP: 200 GB of qualifying clips, This allows admittance to the "VIP Room" with advance previews and exclusive content. You should have an active connection and be online as close to 24/7 as possible.

HUB OPERATOR: 2 TB of qualifying clips. These are the people who help me run the Hub by registering new members, providing technical support, and contributing the bulk of the new content for the Hub. An active connection and 24/7 connectivity is required.

3) POSTING NEW CONTENT: This can be done in main chat. The most important thing is to make sure you stay online until at least one of the Hubbers who is online 24/7 has the clips so it can be distributed. Once I have it in my own share, I will do frequent re-posts (crediting the original poster who brought it to the Hub of course) until I am reasonably sure everyone has the new clip.

--THE HUB CLOSING WITHOUT NOTICE: The most important thing to remember is COMMUNICATION and the Hub provides plenty of that. I don't reboot the Hub's server without making note of the fact in main chat and every time the Hub is going to be offline for more than a few hours I send a mass message to every hubber as well as messages in Main chat, VIP Chat and OP Chat. If it's a mystery to you why the hub is offline then you're just not paying attention!

But you MUST pay attention-- it is a Hub rule that you read and respond to all messages from the OPs in a timely fashion. I can't count how many times someone got kicked out of the Hub because they had a file that is not allowed in the Hub. They were warned by the Ops over and over again then they cry to me when they are on the outside looking in because my OPs failed to realize that they are special people for whom the rules just don't apply. It's like telling a cop when you run a red light "oh I don't pay attention to those things." Trust me, that doesn't work either.

You will always know when the Hub is going offline. Sure sometimes computers break down and you unexpectedly lose the Hub for a while but if you pay attention 90% of the time the 'down time' need not be a mystery to you--

Hey gang:

“The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated."
--Mark Twain

Actually my Hub never closed. To be more accurate, my active participation in this forum offering tech support, status updates, preferential treatment to Alizee fans has gone on hiatus mainly due to the unfair and mostly untrue attacks on my Hub in general and me personally.

The Hub changed it's address, which despite the picture painted elsewhere is a very well-known FACT and has happened several times in the past. This time however, the active members list was NOT transferred to the new domain. Each active member of the Hub was openly invited in both public and personal chat several times to join the new entity, and several of them declined to respond. As regrettable as that is, that is THEIR CHOICE.

When the Hub closed, those people found themselves out of the loop. Since they had failed to respond to repeated posts from the Hub owner, this could be construed as a "mass kick." The requirement to respond to OP messages is a well-known rule, especially by "former OPs" of my Hub who kicked people for the very same reason.

Anyone who visited the Hub in the last month or so received an invite. All chat messages are stored as text files on your computer, so if you're interested, open up the message and respond to it. Better late than never they always say :-)

If you DID respond, and in the hectic frenzy involved in getting the new Hub online you got "lost in the cracks" then I apologize: drop me a line and I'll get back to you ASAP.

But like I said, our presence in this Forum is on hiatus: we are still going strong after 14 years of serving the Alizee community. By "un-sticky-ing" this thread and replacing it with some new Hub brings our return into question....as well as the fact that the action against my Hub's place in this Forum seems to have been initiated by someone listed as an Operator for the new Hub, and it could be construed as a conflict of interest by some, and openly antagonistic by many.

We're still alive and kicking, and those of you that want to re-join our community know where to find us.

Actually my Hub never closed. To be more accurate,...

When the Hub closed, those people found themselves out of the loop....

Based on the info I had from main chat posts, I (apparently falsely) concluded the hub had closed, and 'un-sticky-ed' the thread. Based on the new info I have, I am reversing my error. Sorry about that.

I get the feeling most of Alizée's fans feel that their fandom is a hobby. I know I do. It's something you do because you want to do it, how you want to do it, and when you want to do it. It's not a business or anything. Conflict of interest? A hobby?

I've said many, many times that I'm an Alizée fan, and I want to help other fans learn about her, and make sure that the videos and photos are available for fans. (Check the stored chat logs.) After the post "In exactly twelve hours this Hub will close" I resigned myself to the fact that an era was over, and was thinking maybe I could mail out flash drives full of videos to fans in the future. Then I got an invitation to check out another hub so I did. Upon my arrival I found I had been registered as an OP. Still believing the hub was really closing, I was relieved that there would still be a way to get files to new fans. I went to sleep but got up to see if the hub was really closing, and right on schedule 'Happy Trails' rolled, I got disconnected and couldn't reconnect, and figured that was it. No antagonism was intended.

I realize that it's my fault the hub 'not-closed' because I have no interest in other artists. I mentioned that several time over the years. (see chat logs) Fandom is a hobby to me and no two fandoms are identical. I thought I had been following all the rules. I probably had over 99% online time. Sure, my share wasn't organized but the search tool worked to find files.

It wasn't my party and not my place to say how to run it so I didn't.

Ray: thanks for correcting that error and restoring the Hub thread. As per the arrangements I had made with two forum admins when I set up shop here years ago, I will keep an eye on messages directed toward me as I have in the past.

Conflict of interest:

"a situation in which a person is in a position to derive personal benefit from actions or decisions made in their official capacity."

-- I'd say that getting "promoted" from a VIP to OP status to encourage you to move to a splinter Hub and throw your support behind it, is by every definition of the term (other than YOURS) a "conflict of interest."

I outlined to you many times a potential pathway for promotion for you, but you claimed you weren't interested. In fact, you ignored the basic parameters of your VIP status and refused to post clips in the Hub that were available to you, but weren't being shared in the Hub. Instead, you posted them HERE in IM and required a PM to obtain the clip. That is hardly supporting the Hub, and that passive-aggressive approach by you and several others that prompted me out of frustration to clean out the "dead weight." If you guys couldn't respond to my messages, or were using my Hub's messaging system to promote your own ventures, you were OUT:

Rule #6 The OPs are here to help you. Failure to respond to their inquiries
on a timely basis will result in being kicked.

Rule #7 You are strictly forbidden to advertize other hubs or websites either in
main or personal chat without the express permission of the hub administrator.

The timeline you have outlined several times here JUST ISN'T TRUE: you joined the splinter hub BEFORE the Girl Pop Hub closed, not AFTER. In fact in violation of the Hub rules posted above, you guys used my messaging system to promote a Hub competitive to mine in my own Hub!

No, the old Hub can't come back. As good as the DC+++ protocol is, by using the port designation (1209) used by my Hub for over a decade rather than creating your own, the admins of the splinter Hub have made sure that can never happen. You CAN'T have two Hubs using the same port.

The main thing you seemed to have failed to mention is my repeated attempts to involve you in the changes to the Hub, as were the other principals in the "alternate" Alizee Hub. It was your (and their) failure to respond to repeated messages in public and personal chat that put you "out of the loop" and not some malicious attempt to exclude you guys. Since you seem to feel free to post my Hub messages here out of context, clearly you CAN retrieve one of the many messages inviting you to the new iteration of the Hub.

But that's all water under the bridge. Right now, due to ongoing security issues, I have limited the registration server for former members of the Girl Pop Hub. At a later point in time I am sure I can extend invites to NEW members too. Just follow the instructions and you'll be good to go.

As I said in the other topic: The hub is closed!

Do you really want to discuss this in public, buddy????

Well, OK, here goes.... you were NOT an Operator for my Hub when it closed, you were FIRED back in December for letting people hang out online for as much as FIVE DAYS without bothering to register them or respond to my messages repeatedly warning you that you WEREN'T DOING YOUR JOB.

If people want to join your splinter Hub, that is their choice. I don't blame you for being angry with me... we were friends for nearly ten years. But you still needed to register people... inconveniencing people who wanted to join the Hub by refusing to do your job was hurting the Hub and the people in Aam who wanted to join. As I told you many times in the past, being an OP in the Hub was NOT an honorary position.

My advice to you is to sell your splinter Hub on it's own merits, and to NOT tell stories you know not to be true.

Yes the Hub is very much open...you just weren't invited to the party! :bye:

Oops, sorry... I had read your post yesterday just after you originally posted it, and didn't realize it had been later edited until now. In my previous post, I was trying to explain why I had erroneously thought the hub had closed.

I've tried to keep my communications with you cordial, and I don't understand the point of the assumptions and analysis of everything I post and don't post. Ever consider getting a Community Manager to do the hub PR?

For me, the less I write the better, and I've tried that strategy but it doesn't seem to be working.

I find that being an admin/mod of a fan activity is hardly a desirable responsibility. It's extra work one assumes that demands a lot of personal time to help others. I've yet to benefit from it. So far it's been more like a curse but I do it for Alizée's fans.

I outlined to you many times a potential pathway for promotion for you, but you claimed you weren't interested.
True.

In fact, you ignored the basic parameters of your VIP status and refused to post clips in the Hub that were available to you, but weren't being shared in the Hub. Instead, you posted them HERE in IM and required a PM to obtain the clip.
False.

These download links were listed on my profile page Ray4AJ (http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/member.php?u=6065) here as VISITOR MESSAGES and were viewable by anyone logged in to the forum. No PM was required.

Firstseb came through again and captured the important parts of the show.
Merci Firstseb !
Unfortunately the download links aren't safe without taking precautions and being willing to risk infection. So for now Don't share the links on this forum!

The full 1080 files will be on the hub soon, and I hope to have the main Alizée part with the animals available here (sort of) soon.

In the meantime here is the main part in low res, thanks again to Firstseb

Edit:

Okay, maybe there are some safe links in the visitor messages on my AAm profile page.

And here we see the links had already been posted on the hub

[2016-11-23 19:07] <rayfer> oh, lets see.. the first is 500+mb, the second is 150, the third is 80

And these were never reposted in main chat "after several hubbers have grabbed them" even though I was told things I listed in VIP chat would be reposted after several hubbers had them. :/)

That is hardly supporting the Hub, and that passive-aggressive approach by you and several others that prompted me out of frustration to clean out the "dead weight." If you guys couldn't respond to my messages, or were using my Hub's messaging system to promote your own ventures, you were OUT:

#6 I don't consider 'send me an email to be notified of future projects' to be an inquiry.
#7 I'm not discussing other people here.... Just me. And I never advertised anything anywhere.

Let's dig deeper into my timeline (all times are local to me)... Don't know where I allegedly said I joined the splinter hub AFTER Girl Pop Hub closed. :dontknow:

After the
(1)(14:13) post "In exactly twelve hours this hub will close" I resigned myself to the fact that an era was over, and was thinking maybe I could mail out flash drives full of videos to fans in the future.
(2) (16:15) Then I got an invitation to check out another hub so I did. Upon my arrival I found I had been registered as an OP. Still believing the hub was really closing, I was relieved that there would still be a way to get files to new fans.

A MAIN CHAT POST FROM "THE HUB"

Over the past few weeks, things got very hostile towards this Hub by a couple of former members, who created false and misleading posts in the Alizee America Forum and by sending private messages to the members of this hub trying to get them to join the "other" Hub. This is in violation of our Hub rules that have been in place for over ten years.

I'm sure you read all that crap. Keep in mind EVERY ONE OF THOSE GUYS in the old version of the Hub were invited to register for this new version and I gave all of them my personal email address to do so... just like I did with all of you in the Hub right now. At first I had no problem with any of you being in BOTH hubs even though that posed an obvious security issue. But two of the principals of that Hub have appeared tireless in their attempts to falsely claim I closed the Hub, one of them by carefully quoting me out of context over and over again and even issuing a vague threat that he is willing to abuse his position as a member of the Forum staff to delete and/or modify forum posts to give him the "final word" in this Forum regarding a Hub I have provided as a service to Alizee fans since 2005.

Now there is a new place claiming to be "The Alizee Hub." They could have selected a differant name (like "The NEW Alizee Hub or whatever), but they decided to trade on my good name, reputation and creative work over the past 14 years with NO work on their part... other than defame this Hub, and slander my good name and hard work. Anyone who has been away from my Hub for a long period of time and only remembered the name and port address would find themselves in a Hub I have nothing to do with. I consider that a fraudulent attempt to take credit for something that is NOT THEIRS. Keep in mind that there is NO ONE involved in the actual running of THIS Hub over the years that is involved in that "other" Hub.... in fact the "long time Operator" was fired precisely because he routinely failed to register you guys in the Hub, which is something that all of you constantly complained about, and indeed registering the members of the Fourm into the Hub was his ONLY responsibility in the Hub. In the end it required me to change the procedures for joining the Hub.

This is the THIRD time I've changed some major parameters for the Hub, and all three times we were ATTACKED for our efforts. The last "rival" Hub actually launched a DOS attack against our server, so I am super cautious now days regarding Hub security. That was in 2010 and that Hub closed in a matter of months. What's differant this time??? A major figure in this forum has thrown his support behind that Hub. At first, I was unsure on how to upgrade my file sharing protocol, and indeed there were several ideas other than a Hub tossed around so I might have been a little vague about what was coming next. Yes, they were discussed with the main members of the Hub, though due to security concerns we naturally did not publicly discuss here the "ins and outs" of how we are set up. If you logged into the Hub at any time since late last year, you were well aware of the fact that changes were coming, and we were honest and forthright about what it would take to keep the Hub going "as is." I kept everyone in the Hub up to date, despite the misrepresentations posted here by others. I decided to hold off on outlining the new procedure here until the hostilities ended, but clearly that has NOT HAPPENED and as the days and weeks go by I am less and less hopeful that it will EVER happen.

"Why don't I open the 'OLD' Hub?" Because they are using the port address for OUR Hub (1209), and as common sense would dictate you can't have TWO applications using the same port, just as you can't have two houses with the same address on the same street. They have been aware of this for WEEKS, but have chose to do NOTHING. Over the past few weeks, things got very hostile towards this Hub by former members of this Hub in the Alizee America Forum. That "former OP" actually threatened to use a "redirect" in a previous post right here, which could potentially move current Hubbers to another entity ( his "fake Hub" I guess) by using the same port ID. That post has since been deleted but the damage has been done, and any element of trust I had for that guy has vanished. When you threaten the Hub's security within this Forum it's YOU GUYS that are losing: that "former" OP now has a lifetime ban so it doesn't affect HIM: but by Forum moderators condoning that criminal behavior even for a second it affects all of you. Foolish me: I had actually hoped that there was some sort of "misunderstanding" and after a short period of time the long time members would re-integrate themselves back into the Hub, as had happened in the past. But the hostilities continue and by their silence have forced me to take another drastic step....

I am now preparing to drop everyone here that is also connected to to a Hub that has placed itself as openly hostile to me, and have changed the rules accordingly. I have already kicked one guy who had been with us for several years and challenged my right to implement new policies. I'm sorry it has to be this way.

The Hub, even now, offers three times the content of the "other" hub, and will continue to do so. I am, according to the server's stats responsible for 97.9% of all the original uploads to the Hub, so at least in my mind you guys are losing out big time. As you can see I haven't been showing up here much recently.

At first I wasn't going to respond to any of this, but it is not in my nature to run away from a bully, even one over the internet. I won't back away from someone who abuses his dubious position of power here to make himself some sort of "god" of Alizee fandom (they called it a "superfan" in the other Forum), and attempt to manipulate things so that he and his cronies are the only source of Alizee content. This is unacceptable to me, and surely if you think about it, might be unacceptable to YOU too. It's SUPPOSED to be all about Alizee, and any attempt to build a cult of personality by any person based solely on a vast number of lame, inessential and sometimes flatly untrue posts, DOESN'T make them important: it just means they have a lot of time on their hands. I left the other Forum for this exact same reason in 2012, now history seems to be repeating itself. I just hope and pray this nonsense doesn't cause this Forum to suffer the same fate.

This was always intended to be a fun hobby for me, but reading all the garbage said about me in the Forum gives me a headache and just makes it not any fun any more.

I will work with any of you guys that are as incensed by this turn of events as I am. You know how to reach me.

Regards,

digi

I joined your hub a few years ago. I have not been active in over a year, but was intending to return soon. I am looking forward to the opportunity. :)

Yeah, I agree... I've been of service to the Alizee fan community for YEARS but I guess now I guess now there are certain elements (or maybe just a single element) that wants me GONE.

I don't know how much longer I will be here before I get kicked or banned or whatever and the fake Alizee Hub meant to replace me is your only option, but send me a PM and I'll try to get you set up. I'm really sorry that this has become so difficult. But I'm glad to hear from you and thanks for the compliment!

Regards,
digi

users on digi's hub:

Mr.T -> (digi's caregiver) I really feel sorry for you pal!
Digimaze -> (nothing more to say about it :)) )
Eza-Migid_[PDQ] -> (digi's split personality)

....that's all folks!

This argument seems to be the only action on Alizee America these days.
