So anyways after a tiny chat convo about how Aaron wanted me to play Mes Fantomes I replied...

OK ill do MF, this then set off a whole bunch of wheels and thought processes.

MF = Mes Fantomes
MF = Mylene Farmer

So thats what got me rolling. It started off with a Mes Fantomes..My Phantomes or My Ghosts, I then related it to how Myelene is now like a phantom haunting her now. People want Alizee to get back together with her but it won't happen and Alizee is trying to get this out of her head but its stuck there like a phantom.

Along with this Mes Fantomes writes about mistakes made previously, whether they relate to her or not is unknown but for this discussions sake I believed them to be directly related to her life. She makes a lot of references towards a mistake in the past:

Oh mes erreurs, mes faux-fuyants,
mes cousus blanc[s] 2, mes histoires,
mes calvaires

Oh my errors, my false-perspectives,
my white lies, my history,
my sufferings

She makes a direct statement to an error in a long time ago. Her history...hmmm another subtle reference or just a coincidence once again Im assuming it to be about MF (Mylene) but what you pick is up to you.

Then we get this little Gem over here:

Oh mon enfant, mon diamant noir,
mon solitaire, mon petit,
ma prière

Oh my child, my black diamond,
my recluse / solitaire [diamond], my little [one],
my prayer / plea / entreaty

Now you can take Ma Priere as just being My Prayer ORRRRR...in 1999 Ma Priere was the song Alizee preformed that first caught the attention of MF and LB....hmmm interesting

Also

Oh mes amours, nos jeux troublants,
tes yeux brûlants, mes larmes

Oh my loves, our confusing games,
your fiery eyes / glances, my tears,
my miracles

Your Fiery eyes could pertain to the authoritive figure that MF had on her career, her style of music, her preformances, how she danced etc. Maybe forced into a few things without admitting to not wanting to do them?

Now once again this is all speculation but after Alizee left MF people have said that she would never be the same and she lost a lot of fans. In a way MF is still overshadowing her career but not really in a positive way, more of an image from the fans that she could have kept her popularity and so on. Also, she is seen now as the person who left MF after having success by many, look on youtube many comments are about What Happened to her after she left etc...

So in a way Mylene Farmer is like a phantom to Alizee, because what is a phantom? Its an invisible thing that follows you, haunts you, stays with you, it is not physical but you know its there. Like that Lolita image she had, it still follows her as people want her to return back to it.

So in the end, I believe that Mes Fantomes was written about Mylene Farmer and her career during that phase, but then again I Might be wrong. And if there is another thread like this I apologize..

Thoughts?, Agree? Disagree? More points to offer?

I highly doubt Alizée has such negative feelings about Mylène Farmer. She wouldn't have a career without Mylène's help and I don't think she's ungrateful for that.

Eh, good opinion....

I don't think she has this strong of negative feelings, but I know she has some since she hates people on facebook calling her a lolita and talking about how they like her JEAM video so much. She wants everyone to appreciate not only her older works, but her newer ones too, since that's how she makes money for her family. But yah....she definitely is grateful...

hum...

Sorry but this is pure speculations. And don't fit at all.

By the way " nos jeux troublants " don't mean " confusing games" but
" teasing games" in an erotic way...

so ?

I hadn't noticed the MF before in Mes fantômes. Interesting, but likely a coincidence.

A lot of the lyrics obviously refer to times after she broke up with MF/LB rather than before.

I don't think it's exactly believable, but I do think it's a funny comparison/CONSPIRACY!!!:p

Right, and I always felt that stanza was -- interesting. Suggestive of her having more than one lover. Makes one wonder what kind of jeux troublants she's been up to . . .

LOL no way, dude.

If she is, and her other lover isn't me, it's none of my business.

And if it is me, it's none of yours. :p

Remember Ued's is a concept album focused on Edie Sedgewick. Interesting theories, but probably a stretch to link them to Alizee.

Very indepth analysis there, but I think you're simply seeing what you want to see. I really don't think that Alizée bears that much emotion towards Mylene Farmer. But hey! It's always fun to make such connections, whether or not they're true. It's entertaining to say at the least. :D

I think it's pretty interesting. I'm open to hear what anyone's interpretation of a song is and what it means to them. Most songs will mean different things to different people so it's always cool to see things from a different perspective. Even if what one song means to someone is different from what it means to someone else, it's all just interpretation and perspective. The "real" meaning of the song can only be known by those who made the song. Kinda like JEAM. Some people say it has a lot of sexual meaning to it where others say it's just her singing of being fed up and chillaxin'. I acknowledge and recognize both interpretations of the song but what the song mostly means to me, and what I get out of it, is the more literal interpretation. That is, to me, her just singing about things that she is fed up with at the end of a tough day while finally getting some relax time in the tub. I just don't always want to rock out to a song about some chick finger bangin' in the bathtub... lol. But that's just me . But like I said, I do acknowledge all interpretations of a song. So I don't always fit just one permanent interpretation or meaning to a song. A song may mean something completely different to me today than it will tomorrow.

So, in my opinion, a song is what you make of for yourself. I thought your interpretation of the song and what it means to you was pretty interesting, Mark. It's not quite what I get from the song, but it is definitely one way that a person could look at it. Good job finding your own and unique meaning to the song :). It's always best to get out of a song (or anything really) what it really means to you and not someone else.

You want to know what I think of Mes Fantomes?

-It's THE BEST SONG on UEDS, just because it is the first piece of media(whether it be a song, movie, news story) that has made me cry....it's just so beautiful....
