I would definitely think it's the autumn of life and the only thing controversial I think about that is maybe if this is one of the songs about her life, maybe it's tied in with the "forever young" tatoo. Didn't she say with JPVA, she thought that when you reached 20 that most of the fun part of life, the partying was over. You married, settled down, started a family. Maybe before, she looked as being in her 20s as being in the autumn of her life, but now she is feeling forever young.

I agree. I really like this much better than anything on the last album. Definitely has that '60s, early '70s vibe. The first thing that came to mind was the music from the early James Bond films for some reason. Can't wait for the rest.

Well I agree with everyone who says the song has a 60's kind of vibe to it. It definitely is structured that way. Her singing is good and I am so happy she is singing in her deeper register. In my opinion, it's one of her early trademarks. And I'm very happy to hear harmony in the chorus, it adds so much to the song. The quality of the production seems really good. Overall, I like it.

I'm not sure how it would do as a single as far as sales go, but it definitely shows that Alizée has made some changes that I think will benefit her.

I like this new single, and here's why:

Remember when the previous two albums came out? Or even a step back, how about when the singles came out for the previous two albums? I didn't like Limelight at all when I first heard it. I remember thinking "what the....what's going on here? This sounds terrible." But after a few months, it grew on me and I finally saw what was so awesome about it.

During the Psych era, it was even worse because I was trying too hard to like the songs. It shouldn't be like that. Some of the songs on Psych eventually grew on me (esp Mon Taxi Driver and Par Les Paupieres), but when time is of the essence, you can be damn sure I choose songs off the first two albums to listen to instead.

Right now I can breathe a sigh of relief because I don't have to TRY to like this new song since it already sounds good to me.

Also, I've noticed in past polls on this site that we continually surprise each other when we talk about our favorite or least favorite songs. Some of the ones I figured people would definitely hate are actually loved by some. And vice versa. So who knows? Maybe some of you who don't like it too much now on the first listen might like it more once we hear it along with the rest of the album? Give it a chance! I'm so happy to hear Alizée's voice again. :dance:

I agree that it sounds a bit generic, but after the dark electro from UEdS (which I still adore) it's a breath of fresh air. I'm also very glad to hear her singing in her lower register again, as has been mentioned. It's a little early to judge the entire album just yet, but in terms of being marketable and selling well, this is definitely a step up from our last "first listen" experience from UEdS.

First time I listened I just listened. Second time I caught myself smiling. After about 10 times I decided it could work, and I was happy. And never had any idea what she was saying! Then I think the IP changed on my phone or something and it was all gone. Sad again... It's catchy enough for most of the fans. I figured it was in the 60's though. That's why it has an old school sound. I like Alizee's rendition. The chorus of both songs are constructed from a somewhat common chord progression. The songs don't have the exact same progressions in total, but parts are very similar. A good part of the chorus melody is similar. To be honest, we are going through a period of time where not much imagination is found in popular music, but to be fair, there are a limited number of progressions that work well in pop music. It's not surprising many of the same ones appear over and over again. Taking all of that into consideration, I think Alizée's new song is fine.

Even LB copied himself. For instance, "Amélie m'a dit", "Lui ou Toi" and "Moi, Lolita" are basically built off of the same 4 chord progression.

I don't even hate the song, but I don't really like it. Actually I liked about the first 45 seconds then it went downhill for me. The first bit sounded promising to me but the chorus is just kinda blah. To me, the chorus sounds kinda like when you're trying to think really hard about a song you can't remember and you're just kinda humming something random. I think its partly the fact that she is singing more breathy now or something. I like the lower registers but I feel like her voice is kinda drowned out by the strings.

I intensely despise the saying "haters gonna hate" and even the term "haters".. everyone is entitled to an opinion and dismissing someone as a "hater" for theirs just because it's different from yours.. not cool :mad: The people commenting on Charts though.. I saw some silly things like people saying she can't sing, that made no sense to me having seen her perform live and sound great when she wasn't lip-syncing. Even if she weren't a good singer, she's pretty harmless, she isn't arrogant or obnoxious so she doesn't warrant any pointless hate imo.

I personally like the melody of the verses a lot, but the song itself doesn't really have a hook... it's pretty but not single material because it's a little bit forgettable. I like it a lot, but like I said.. not really single material, I don't know the music scene in France but if I heard it on the radio I wouldn't find it that memorable as opposed to past singles like Moi... Lolita or A contre-courant.

I can see why she chose this song for the first release - She is saying goodbye.

I'm glad she is singing about personal experiences. It will make the feelings much more real when she sings this live (She may even shed tears).

As to the song itself, I give it a 7. I like the song, but it will not be a chart topper. It is good, but not great.

The vocals are better than UEDS but, as others have commented, there is something just slightly sub-optimal about them. Perhaps it's the key the song is in? Or perhaps we are not hearing the aspect of her voice that shined so well in the song she did the first night of LE, and in her song with AC. This could have been a conscious choice by Sony to present her voice in this way for this song - I expect they will present the best aspects of her voice in some of the other songs.

Now that she has said goodbye she can move on. Expect the second single, released close to the album release date, to be faster-paced, and probably the album's best shot at a chart-topping single. :)

Wow, people still hate UEDS, how rude. It is perhaps her best album and I listen to it every day. You pop music fans really need a chill pill and open your eyes to new ideas, styles, and formats. Pop music only lasts so long, and sooner than later each musician will change their style.

I actually do prefer Alizee singing the slower ballads. To me, as with Taylor Swift, the slower songs such as this highlight her voice, talent, and her apeal. Anyone can sing pop music, but can they capture your heart, imagination, and love all in the same time? No. Alizee has done wonders for me. She has made me realize music on a more personal scale. She has made me open up to all kinds of music because now I pay close attention to the Voice, Words, and Music itself. Alizee in my opinion may have the most talent of anyone on this planet. As I mentioned before I like this song. It's certainly not a top 10, but if they mold the other ballad type songs along the same lines, I'm sure they'll have some good ones. I thought they would use one of their top songs to release first, but the fact that they didn't, doesn't bother me at this point.

Though it's not a top 10, I think this song could do well with a good video and as far as that video is concerned, I could see it starting off in the fishbowl of Paris, where things are so congested,where things went south in her marriage, where she is under a spotlight, then her escaping to Corsica; maybe showing her driving along the coast in a convertible sports car, her hair blowing in the wind (sound familiar?), or strolling along the beaches, the streets of Ajaccio or out at Blood islands.

In real life, her tatoos may be part of her escaping, but trying to show that in a video I dont think would quite work

Well Ann and Nancy Wilson of the very successful band Heart pretty much said all the songs they wrote during their career were put together based on things that happened in their lives.

People usually can relate to other peoples issues, since generally they have seen the same things occur in their own lives. Plus don't judge this album based on your American tastes. The one thing I learned when we all were still voting for Alizée on Hit Parade for that radio station on the coast, the French have a completely different taste in their music. What may be average or so so to us, could scream up the charts over there. We'll have to wait to see how the whole album is received by the finicky French consumer.

Judging by the French comments I've read in disgust all over the internet yesterday - ChartsinFrance, Sony Jive's Facebook, etc. - I highly doubt this single or album will be successful in France. The French really live up to their stereotype as snobbish, rude, jerks and they don't seem to respect Alizee. ;) It would not surprise me at all if Alizee sells more albums in Mexico OR the U.S. than she does in France.

France do seem to embrace American artists though - the ones we consider real garbage like Usher, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, etc. They probably love Britney Spears. :D The French aren't finicky; they just have horrible taste. :p

Also, JoeNY has a good point. I've never understood why the French are so obsessed with the singers we don't even consider to be "real" artists over here. I mean, have you heard Rihanna sing live? It's awful, seriously. I guess that's why I wanted Alizee to go more mainstream, so I hope that the rest of the album is a little more current.

I think the one of the problems is that Alizee just doesn't have an image anymore. I dunno, the electro thing seemed pretentious to me, especially with all those weird photos. She may not be a "lolita" anymore, but the sexy thing works for her. She always manages to look very classy, so I don't think she needs to worry about it giving the wrong idea about her.

Actually... the first thing I noticed (when the "Wow she looks gorgeous" and "I totally wasn't expecting this because it doesn't really fit with the sad and melancholic tune" moment was over) was that to me the skin of her face looks a bit strange on the cover... liked they used a bit too much make-up... it's like the make-up or her skin or both look a bit cracky.... so not natural at all xD

Judging by the French comments I've read in disgust all over the internet yesterday - ChartsinFrance, Sony Jive's Facebook, etc. - I highly doubt this single or album will be successful in France. The French really live up to their stereotype as snobbish, rude, jerks and they don't seem to respect Alizee. ;) It would not surprise me at all if Alizee sells more albums in Mexico OR the U.S. than she does in France.

France do seem to embrace American artists though - the ones we consider real garbage like Usher, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, etc. They probably love Britney Spears. :D The French aren't finicky; they just have horrible taste. :p

Me, I wish I had been ten to fifteen years older to really appreciate the bands and singers of Motown in the early years. The music of the early sixties through nineteen seventy - seventy one was really assume. Since then there really hasn't been too many bands that consistently put out quality music.

I think most of those haters are MF fans. I am NOT saying most MF fans hate Alizee. I know there's a lot of people who are fans of both Alizee and MF. But, I think those who hate Alizee are mostly MF fans. They never seem to get over the fact that Alizee left MF. If you chop off the first 28 seconds, I think it improves it a quite a bit, but some good manipulation in the video could beef up the start.

It appreas that the "A cause de l'automne" was originally written in English by Pete Russell, a British songwriter living in Liverpool. The original song was called "Never Again", and it was fully re-written in French but maintaining the original music (by Pete?).

The song was carried on by DWB Music, a small record company in Britain (I think). But it looks somewhat legit. They did announce already in May 2012 that Pete's song was going to be used by Alizée. Also recent facebook messages confirms that they were excepting French single coming out this week (they did not mention the name of Alizée though). Also mentioning little bit earlier that there's exciting news arriving from France very soon.

Then someone here posted something that made me a little reassured, and that is what I was giving thanks for. I welcome everyone's opinions.

OT - This is the first forum I've joined, and while I knew I needed to try to be clear when posting, it's proving to be more challenging than I had expected. I had briefly got the idea that I was going to give it up the other night, but everyone has been tolerant with me so far, and I decided I was going to stick it out and try to pay closer attention to make sure my ideas are coming across accurately, because I really enjoy reading all the ideas, theories, conclusions, AND opinions that each member here has. Like I said in thr chatbox...people on ChartsInFrance sign up on that site for a reason: They follow the singer they like, and criticize the crap of all the others...rarely liking any other singer.

The true value and appreciation of Alizée's single can be found in the uber-positive tweets that flooded her page, and the fact that we crashed her site for 8 minutes, sending Sony Music France into a panic...that's right...theydidn't expect so many hits...if only we had the stats for how many times the song has been played so far and how manypeople are signed up for her newsletter!

Well there are haters and then on the opposite end of the end of the spectrum there are what I usually refer to as butt kissers. A lot of people get labeled as one or the other unfairly, something I've done at times and something that's been done to me at times. Now I absolutely hate what she is doing with her tatoos, but I certainly don't hate her.

Now in France there does appear to be what seems to be true haters. I have no idea if it's only an insignificant few or a number much greater than that.
Now for some of the younger fans who aren't that familiar with a lot of Alizee's history, it's been said that a lot of Alizee's fans were Mylene Farmer fans first and when they seperated, most of these fans stayed with Mylene Farmer.
It was also "alleged" that there was some bad blood in the break up. One "rumor" said that Alizee was told she should have been making more money than she was and also that she knew the lyrics of some of her songs were sort of controversial, but she didn't really realize how very controversial they were until later and because of these things, she was upset.

There was even a rumor that a line or two from one of her songs on Psych was directed in a negative way at Mylene.

Like I said it's all rumor, but I think there were many Alizee/MF fans that thought Alizee was pissed at MF and they thought how dare she! and I think it was the fans who believed these rumors who turned out to be Alizee haters.

I really have high hopes for her new album. She appears to have the full support of Sony this time around. Then, you have Jean-Jacques Goldman, a Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter who is widely popular and respected in France, writing a song or two for her. Though I don't know anything about the others involved, judging from her first single, I think Sony picked the right people for her.

That's close to what happened here in my opinion. I think the music was marginal and Alizee's voice did an awful lot to improve it, but I don't think it will be a hit in France, however I want to see the video before I make final judgement on that.

I am pleased at the voice range that they used for this song and think it will bode well for her other ballads and I would think the music will improve.

We still have to wait to see what her other genre of songs will be like, but I still think there will be a couple of top ten hits on this album.

Well there are haters and then on the opposite end of the end of the spectrum there are what I usually refer to as butt kissers. A lot of people get labeled as one or the other unfairly, something I've done at times and something that's been done to me at times. Now I absolutely hate what she is doing with her tatoos, but I certainly don't hate her.

Now in France there does appear to be what seems to be true haters. I have no idea if it's only an insignificant few or a number much greater than that.
Now for some of the younger fans who aren't that familiar with a lot of Alizee's history, it's been said that a lot of Alizee's fans were Mylene Farmer fans first and when they seperated, most of these fans stayed with Mylene Farmer.
I would like to volunteer as Alizee's official butt kisser. :p Only because she has such a nice one. :)

Objectively speaking, I don't think this new Alizee single will be a hit in France. I think Alizee fans in general are very pleased with the new song despite it being different for her, and most will buy it. (It's pop, but it's 60s retro pop.) Still, it's Alizee's voice and a return to pop. But someone who has no idea who Alizee is may agree it's a pleasant song, but not worthy of buying. I am confident that Alizee's single will do far better in the U.S. and Mexico than it will in France.

As for Mylene's fans, screw them. They are entitled to their nasty feelings about Alizee, but I just try to avoid the M.F. International forum. My feeling is, I don't like them, and they don't like me. But screw what they think. :D

After listening to the new song (and I must have listened to it over 30 to 40 times already), I'm beginning to feel that strong love for Alizee once again. Like I said, it's not a song that moves me like her earlier work, but it is pleasant where I can put it on repeat and enjoy it. It felt like I lost the old Alizee for awhile especially with UEDS, but the song and her recent emergence in the spotlight again is a glimmer of the old Alizee that I really love to death. What a coincidence - no Jeremy!!! :aha:

I hope they are working on it. It would be better for everyone if they could make a legal download available to as many countries as possible, as soon as possible. I think it would mean more sales and less illegal sharing. Promotion on the internet (both official and unofficial) is global. Sales should be too. Companies with global reach like Sony must realize this. Restrictive policies do not create more revenue, in my opinion, they encourage illegal sharing.

Meanwhile, countries should look at their international copyright agreements and see they are up to date with the realities of the world. I think opportunities are being missed.

For me, as soon as I can obtain a legal copy of "A cause de l'automne", I will. I'm always happy to support the cause. :)
