We were going to go in to see the marathon today, but had something else come up. So fortunately we had something else to do. We usually spend time in that area of the back bay, as we belong to Alliance Français (French Cultural Center and Library - on Marlborough Street) and have friends that live and work around there. Absolutely unbelievable!

My nephew works in a building a street over from there and said they heard it in the office. They shut down cell phone service in the area and severely restricted entrance into various areas. Some hotels were in lock down. The MBTA (metro) was checking everyone going in to use the Green Line.

We were over 3 miles away and didn't hear a thing.

One family was hit pretty hard. An eight year old boy was killed, his younger sister lost a leg and their mom suffered a brain injury. The kids were there to see their dad finish the race.

It is just very sad what happened in Boston. No words to describe it. I'm glad that you and yours are safe Scruffy.
There were thirteen that were to run in the marathon from the Tulsa area. I haven't heard any word that any of them were victims of the blasts yet.

I just read that 2 other victims were 2 brothers aged 31 and 33. They were both laid off recently from their jobs as roofers and they both lost a leg in the bombing.

The mod who closed your thread is not a mod now, for one thing. And the policy seems to be a bit more lax these days.

I will say that the mods are not wrong to assume such threads will eventually turn into some political/religious debate though. The recent thread about a movie theatre shooting in Colorado (http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7130) was allowed to stay open for a while until it was finally closed because it had turned into a religious debate. I think the mods now are willing to let these discussions play out their usefulness and only intervene if the discussion turns south. And in fairness, the first reply in your thread mentioned religion. I'm sorry to see that your thread was closed before anyone could add any genuine comments, but I see the newer policy as an improvement not an act of bias. I'm sure if you made the same thread now it wouldn't be shut down immediately.

There WAS a lot of security Merci. They did several bomb sweeps however the planter was able to successfully plant the bomb after the last sweep.

FRA, when I said it was easier target, I compared it to some closed door event where it would be very difficult for someone to get in with explosives. If someone has to bomb and kill people, then marathon seems to be relatively easier to attack.

The following was reported by the New York Post this morning, and may or may not be accurate:

Several dead and over 140 injured.

There were 4 bombs in all. Two did not go off for some reason.

The bombs were hidden in garbage cans, which is odd because these are typically removed for an event like this due to exactly this risk. People do not know why they were there.

That would be horrible to be wrongfully suspected of such a thing. That's one of the down sides of "crowd-sourcing". But even officials can make the same mistake as they and the media did at first in the bombing in the Atlanta Olympics.

I have to say that officials in this Boston case seemed to handle this situation very well so far.

No it is not plausible at all, governments lie through politics rather than kill their own people; it is so much easier. Unless you're Syria and North Korea, then killing your own people is the easier route.
Let me put it to you like this, the fact that any idiot sitting behind a computer screen can point out "supposed flaws" should ring off alarm bells in your head. If this was an operation run by the government the holes would be extremely non-obvious and even possibly non existent. It would take experts years to connect the dots and figure out; it would not be sloppy! The fact that this bombing was done in a messy manor by two idiots adds substantially to its realism. These truthers, usually people with education in the arts, get an erection when their left brain is finally being switched on for the first time and even though they are novices they get even harder when they become self proclaimed experts on subjects they are completely clueless on. Like I said before; they are pimples on my ass! DO NOT let these idiots convince you Araz.

Occam's razor - If there are two hypotheses that explain the data equally well, choose the one that has the least number of assumptions. In other words, the simpler hypothesis is probably the right one. That video has a lot of assumptions and it uses video clips from totally unrelated events. It is a very, very poor effort to prove a point. I'm not so naive and trusting to deny that such things are possible. I just think they totally failed to provide a convincing argument. I recommend having a healthy dose of skepticism when dealing with such reports.

There was a huge controversy of President Obama at first not referring to the, at the time, possible suspect as a terrorist but a "heinous individual" which further added to the speculation that the suspect was in fact an American psycho; only a few days later was the suspect identified as Islamic so you are completely wrong on your Islamic statement. What you are expressing is called "reverse discrimination" and disinformation. Lastly the mass shootings that have plagued our country in the last year where all WIDELY reported and those were all conducted by Caucasian Americans!
