View Full Version : French Tabloid Insinuating Alizee Upset That Jenifer Is Doing France Gall Covers

I read the interview somewhere on this forum yesterday, and someone including myself did sense something awry with Alizee's comments about Jenifer planning to do France Gall songs on a future album. Now the tabloid picked up on it. Scum.

http://www.pipole.net/jenifer-provoque-jalousie-alizee/184617/

If anyone has the link to Alizee's original comments in the interview, I'd appreciate it. I looked for 20 minutes and couldn't find it.

IMHO, Alizee's covers of France Gall's songs were better than the originals.

Time Alizee put the boots to Jennifer...

Half of them Les Enfoires are riding on Alizee's coat tails, time for her to slap em down.

Ok, looks like tabloid mentions this radio interview:
http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7554

And it was probably first brought up in this interview:
http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7545

It's always seemed to me that Alizée is very careful with what she says, so I'm guessing that it was something she said intentionally, maybe to cause some buzz?

Thanks texasguy for pointing us back at that article.

Ray posted the link to this article (http://www.calameo.com/read/0006108356fe3ace14014) where Alizée was asked if she had heard that Jenifer is releasing a France Gall cover album [pages 6-7], and there was a bitter tone in her responses. She said things like "Has Jenifer ever talked about France Gall? ....someone should ask Jenifer if she has listened to France Gall since she was born..."

From listening to the radio interview she did for MFM, she just said that it wasn't her thing to make entire cover albums, she wasn't jealous or had a problem with Jenifer, but doing cover albums of artists who are still here, still alive, bothers her a little bit, but that Patricia Kaas doing a cover album of Édith Piaf bothered her less (I'm assuming because Piaf passed a long time ago).

So yea she certainly isn't excited about Jenifer doing this album, from what I can tell.

Yeah, that's the part I forgot to talk about in the MFM interview: http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7554

I don't know why that tabloid is making such a fuss over this story ... Alizée and Jenifer are BFF , Alizée never said that she was jealous, only that she wouldn't have done the same because she feels bad about making a complete album out of the songs of someone who's still alive.

Damn, I hate this news website

What's the status of Bartoli?

Is she considered hot?

I still like Claire Keim and Louise Bourgoin.

"Hot" is not a status, but we could say that she's overall more succesful and more respected than Lili in France and belgium

Lili's Status over the water is hot... smoking HOT, now and forever.

Yeah...um, EURO types and French in-particular are not known for unbiased views and keen intelligence. So it does not surprise that this Bartoli tramp may be held in higher esteem then Alizee.

I don't feel offended, but some would... you could get punched in the face for less than that in paris. Anyway back to topic, I don't know why we would be so different from other countries... :13: America's got a lot worse when it comes to 'tramps' and even though I agree with you on the fact that Jenifer Bartoli isn't the sharpest tool in the shed , I doubt that she deserves to be insulted that way.

Jenifer probably wasn't creative enough to come up with ideas on her own for a new album, so she must have got the inspiration from Alizée... end of the story. Whether you wanna call it stealing or not is up to you, but if I were Alizée, I wouldn't feel jealous, but angry.

I don't think it's a good idea to drive a wedge between her and Jenifer. :( You can already see what MF fans are doing trying to tear Alizee apart.

I'm kinda picking up on the fact the French people suck. The 'mob', the consumer, the general public of France are dumb.

Alizee must be different somehow perhaps not true French.

And I'm kinda starting to think that you're a fucking troll.

Hitting on the french for no reason would be like despising your ancestors since most canadians have french blood in thei veins..
And btw , the Jacotey family takes its roots deep in the heart of France in the Franche-Comté region...

Ease off Lappy,

Fans can be the hardest critics.

Alizee needs to get the heck out of France for a while.

She needs to expand her horizons, maybe the next Austin powers movie or Scream 27.

She sings in French, she won't go anywhere ... the anglosaxon world isn't ready to open its doors to foreign artists singing in their own language in the same way as non-english speaking countries have always welcomed anglo-american music .

Yes ,the world is unfair... and according to my calculation if she only sticks to mexico , Alizée will risk losing 80% of her income and some of her french fanbase deciding to leave france would probably be the final blow to her career.

I hate to say it but Ameriglish is the only way for her to go forward.

But she can do it her own way.

It's all about market share.

Edit:

I think she's afraid and stuck.

She's milking a dry cow.

The French are huuuuge hypocrites imo. I remember when they were so upset over American companies coming to France. Disney, McDonalds, Starbucks...They made a huge hubbub over it ruining French culture, but now you see them going there all the time. I think they like to act like they're such forward modern thinkers, but a lot of the French are majorly stuck in the past. The only reason they passed gay marriage is because the UK did.

You'll also notice the most popular artists in France are mostly Americans.

That already happened, at least once. Psychedelices promo was specially focused on Mexico and the album achieved a 'Golden Record' (+40'000 copies) and a Luna award. Despite a good start, the album didn't get good numbers in France. Now we can see how difficult it is for non fans to recognize Alizée's music.

I don’t know, I think people are more or less the same around the world after allowing for cultural differences, and everyone has their fair share of phonies. Governments often take the stance of protecting the culture, language and heritage of their country, but the average person on the street will listen to what they want to listen to, and eat what they want to eat. Government positions don’t always reflect the positions of the people. Of course the people also have differing thoughts and feelings on a lot of subjects, whether they are in agreement with their government or not.

I guess I just don’t like to paint a whole country full of people with such a broad brush. I’ve seen often enough where people do the same thing with regards to Americans. I just think it’s an oversimplification of reality.

But back to topic. Fandom set aside. Which version do you guys prefer?

Alizée's ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4L0p5HBlaHY

Jenifer's ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TA4fX9yc0gg

I honestly can't make up my mind... I think both are cool , but Jenifer's version is "funkier" .

edit:

I think Jenifer's album gonna be a huge success... knowing how MASSIVE the bugdet of her music videos is , I think that when the music videos of these two songs will come out she's likely to remain in the top 3 of the charts for at least a week. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UB6uQPV57V0

Where did you here that? I read many years ago that her mother was from the Côte d'Azur and her dad was Corsican. Well I guess she could also have Sicilian origins but then again so could you and I. :)

Well fandom set aside I don't like the song to begin with, so even if I liked one version better, it wouldn't be by much. Jenifer's voice sounds better but as Quinetiam said, it's a studio version, whereas Zée's is live, which is sometimes her weak spot. On the plus side, we know it wasn't autotuned :p

I bolded the parts that describe my opinion - doing cover albums of artists who are still alive and kicking is not my cup of tea and because of that, I have nothing good to say about Jenifer's songs in this matter. Therefore, Alizée's covers of France Gall's songs are for me infinitely better than Jenifer's.

my opinion is simply...

I think Jenifer did this wittingly... It was known really much time that Alizée by this album was inspired by France Gall. So why not take the idea? But why bother to make own songs with little of inspiration, when you can make cover of existing songs. Then when appeared the compared photos of Alizees and Jenifer photoshoot... + - the style was really similar.

I dunno, Bartoli seems shallow... like a Barbie.

Typical Millennial, self absorbed and unaware.

Alizee seems to have a sense of some things, maybe influence from parents or culture.

I wish Alizee, Zaz and Nolwenn would do a record

You can't just wish it like that! I mean you have to wish upon a star or better still a shooting star.. well you have to wish upon many shooting stars for that matter but moreover you also have to wish upon Alizée's lucky star if you can find it in the night sky and if you're sincere in your wish and don't only want that wish to come true for your own benefit, then maybe just maybe that wish will come true.

You also have to believe. :)

Just my two cents.
