France played their first game today - and won 3-0 against Honduras. What a difference from 2010 (where the team imploded).

By the way, the USA plays on Monday at 6:00 PM eastern time.

Alizée has always loved futbol (soccer), as evidenced in her most recent photo.

In the caption she says "We believe." Of course, she is talking about the French team in the 2014 World Cup, which subsequently played today at 3PM eastern time, and beat Honduras 3-0. It was a great game.

By the way, did you spot that she had Gregoire wear blue, and her brother wear red, with her in the middle wearing white. She was thinking ahead. Together they represent the French flag. She is backing the team.

I love this photo. :) :)

We have a World Cup and Football in general discussion going on here. Might be an idea to join up both threads??

The World Cup has practically taken over the chatbox and The Association Football Thread (http://alizeeamerica.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3805&page=18) these last few days but it does deserve it's own thread :D

I've correctly predicted exactly half of the match results so far :\ Not very good, but I'm hoping I'll get better with this. I've been taking part in a predictor contest by a device manager app I have. So far I haven't won anything more than a lame one month premium package

EDIT - Ya beat me to it :)

Also, tomorrow I'm rooting for Germany, Nigeria, and USA :D

Yeah 2010 was a nightmare for us... that's what happens when you select players who earn millions a month and lack the motivation to play not just for money but for their country...

That's why this time Deschamps selected young inexperienced players, but that might turn out risky too

I wouldn't think to go looking in the Association thread for the World Cup, so others might not as well. However, the Mods. can do whatever they think best.

After the game today, Germany looks like it is the team to beat.

What did people think of the USA game? I'm glad we beat Ghana (finally!), but I thought the USA team looked like they were not playing as well as they need to in order to beat Portugal. for example, their passing was not working well.

I'm sad Franck Ribéry is not playing. I was looking forward to watching him play.

Germany played very well from start to finish, and Portugal suffered several setbacks. Even with Cristiano Ronaldo it's going to be very tough. Pepe really let his team down. Though dishonest, Muller did what almost any player (including Pepe) would have done, so that outburst was dumb, and having headbutted (I believe accidentally, but nevertheless) Muller in plain sight of the ref was all that was needed for a red. Not every ref would have done it, some may have simply pulled a yellow for both, but you reap what you sow.

USA started out brilliantly! Hopefully they can start their game with Portugal like that and keep it going. Today though like so many others they were noticeably running out of steam at the end. That last goal was life-saver, it could just as easily have been Ghana. I think the heat is getting to most teams, and well it gets pretty hot in the summer in the US so I would hope they aren't as affected by it as the rest.

It's a shame Ribery was injured, it was probably going to be his last World Cup anyway, he's not getting any younger. However Benzema could have had the tournament's first hat trick to his name, I think Les Bleus are still strong enough to push forward. We were all pretty disappointed with what happened last time :(

@USA

For most of the game the guys in white were really enthusiastic about shooting a lot not hitting anything.
The USA vs Ghana game felt a lot like USA vs Stormtroopers.

I almost got banned for saying that on alizeeghana.com

Anyhow, good luck vs Portugal:

All joking aside, I actually think USA might do pretty well vs Germany.
Germany won vs Portugal.
Germany will win vs Ghana.
They will have no incentive to play well vs USA.
They will be careful and they will use their B-team.
It might even be a good strategic move for Germany to let USA come along and to try and eliminate Ronaldo instead.

Papa Jo tweeted that early this morning ^

Indeed, it it wasn't for Ochoa, the score would resemble that of Germany - Portugal in favor of Brazil. Or, if Mexico had Brazil's accuracy it would resemble that score in favor of Mexico. Man of the match!

Interesting is that Ochoa played for AC Ajaccio last season and despite his great performance they didn't do well.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! :D Italia lost! :D Bye Bye cheating divers! Italy is now going out of the group stages in back to back World Cups! :D That has never happened to France. Thank you Uruguay for packing these cheaters and divers back home where they belong! Serves them right for bad mouthing France's Zidane. Karma is a b****. Forza Italia my a$$. :D

I am extremely satisfied with the results so far for both my teams (France and USA). They went above my expectations so far. I think they are performing much better than I thought especially team USA given that they are in the Group of Death. Hopefully they at least draw Germany and make to the next round.

One of the best World Cups in the last 10 - 12+ years!

And Suarez couldn't have picked a better team to bite against especially that cheating diver Chelini. ROFL.

Anyday when Italy loses is good day for all France supporters. :D

I'm not sure if I should support vampires... He's a godlike player, but little fucked up.

Anyway, I was rooting for Uruguay, if Italy would play like this in every game... It was so boring.

I'm a bit disappointed that probably Portugal is going to home, but even The Best Player in The World can't choose a national team. And Portugal sucks, even with Him.

At the moment I'm sure that France, Netherlands or Germany will win the World Cup. But I'm also rooting for Belgium.

Thank you sir! Merci Becoup! :)

Didn't realize it was on Zidane's Birthday and yes he got a great Birthday present. :)

I am glad that France went through to the next round with any major injury and without gathering any more yellow cards for their star players.

Let's just hope USA goes through to the next round too tomorrow. Got my fingers crossed.

Very nice! I am glad USA went through to the next round. The last couple of minutes was nerve wracking as if Ghana scored they would have gone through but after CR7 scored I became more relaxed. I think it's a HUGE achievement to come out of the Group of Death alive. All the players and the coaches should give them selves a pat in the back. I will admit I had my doubts. I now think they do have the ability to beat Belgium. There group isn't as competitive as team USA's.

And congrats to Algeria (France's B team :P ) for making it to the Round of 16 for the first time in their history. They were robbed in 1982 when Germany and Austria intentionally played to a draw which kept Algeria out of the next round. Let's see if they could exact revenge in the next round..me thinks not, I will give maybe 5% chance of them beating Germany.

All in all a fantastic result for Team USA. I thought we were screwed when we got drawn into the Group of Death. I am glad I was wrong. :)

Honestly though we couldn't have asked for more, especially the second half and extra time, they played like champs. Tim Howard is a BEAST!!

Now it's time for Les Bleus to face Germany. I figured it would come to this, and I'm behind them all the way. :france::france::france:

As Barrett said, can't forget Brazilian homecooking. I support them too, and if they beat Colombia (I expect them to) I'll be happy but against France I'll stick with Les Bleus :p

Yes, sad face. At the elimination of France, and now, at Neymar's injury. They're supposedly going to review what happened, but right now I'm saying it should be as heavy or even heavier a sanction than Suarez'. At this point in the tournament, and in such a violent way, injuring another player is unacceptable. There are/were a LOT of people whining that the ref was on Brazil's side, but that's hogwash. Yes, they were knocking James around, but that happens to every key player, Messi, C. Ronaldo, and of course, Neymar. Realizing that the ref wasn't going to card anyone, the Colombians started hitting back. The ref was on no one's side. He's just a douche that lets anything go, and he's known for it.

Anyway. Brazil, even without Neymar, is still Brazil. They're still playing on home soil and have been getting stronger and stronger. Hopefully they'll find inspiration from this, I'm sure they will.

Costa Rica, why was everyone so butthurt that they got this far?

Their star player badly injured. David Luiz is good, but he and Dante couldn't get it together like Luiz-Silva. Fred as always, disappointing. Hulk tried some, but didn't play the 2nd half. All in all, Brazil was at its weakest point in the tournament, and after Germany's second goal, it COLLAPSED completely. I feel bad for them honestly, every little prick with an attitude on the internet is pissing their pants laughing with the caps lock on "HAHAHAHAHA" but yeah, that's football. I felt bad for South Africa doing so poorly last time but Brazil this time around... ouch.

Having said all that, at this point, it was going to be very tough for Brazil to beat Germany even with Neymar and Thiago Silva, the outcome might have been the same though with not so great a difference in the score.

And Germany well, they played ruthless football, took advantage of every weak spot and every mistake, I wish more teams played like that, it would make for a more interesting match. I gotta hand it to them, they definitely earned it

Haha, I know about which prick you are talking. I was laughing like on a good comedy. Especially when I saw that all Brazil team was diving even while they were losing 6-0, no mercy.

I was waiting for this moment very long and I knew that they won't win against Germany, but even in my wildest dreams I haven't imagined such a blitzkrieg. I don't know what happened to Colombia that they didn't win with Brazil, but that was the only good performance of Brazil.

Anyway, my pants were dry if I remember correctly. And I'm not so little.
