Possible trip to Corsica

If my doctor okays me to go back to work in about 10 days, I will have a couple of weeks vacation starting the first of May. I'm strongly leaning towards making a stop in Corsica. Right now it looks like Brussels, Marseille then Corsica. I'm going there for the wedding rehearsal (I should have made this post on April 1st).

It's not cast in stone yet, but I've been checking flight and hotel availability and it looks okay. If I go to Ajaccio, I will probably do day trips to Calvi, Bastia and Bonifacio.

Last time I went, I picked up some things that I knew members here might want like the Corsican flag with the Moor's head on it, some stickers, etc. I bought several because we had a lot of active members then and I knew I could find people who would want them. Now we have so few active members and I think the urge is not as strong as it used to be for fans, so I would only buy something like that for myself or if I knew beforehand if somebody was interested in something. So if you're interested, let me know.

This comes as a shock. I thought Corsica was a quiet backwater. It appears that little Ajaccio is one of the most dangerous cities in Europe.

Well I suppose it shouldn't be a shock because it's just a ferry ride away from Marseille and I know the Germans had fits with organized crime in Marseille during WW2.

Actually Corse is referred to as the murder capital of the E.U..

The upside is as long as you're not a member of organized crime or a politician you're pretty safe. Tourists are pretty much off limits since Corsica survives and prospers on tourism.

I'm sure you're right on this. I grew up on the West Side of Chicago. We all knew the Mafia was there. There was a pizza place in my neighborhood that would sell you a pizza if you ordered one, but the pizza and the service were terrible. They let you know, they didn't want your repeat business. Their real business was the horses. You went there to place a bet. I used to ride my bike past Sam Giancana's house in Oak Park. Sam was the Chicago boss. At the time he was sharing a mistress with Jack Kennedy, the president of the USA. Every now and then a body would show up some place. Even so, no one lived in fear. As long as you had no dealings with the mob, they had no interest in you and left you alone. The dead bodies were mostly gangsters.
