You've probably heard of the hostage situation in France the other day. A terrorist after killing one person in a car jacking, went into a supermarket and took people hostage. When the police were negotiating with him an officer, Lieutenant Colonel Arnaud Beltrame, offered to exchange himself for one of the hostages. He then was exchanged for a woman hostage and wound up losing his life.
We heard recently of the shooting of the school in Parkland, Florida. It was said it was the deputy's job, who was assigned to the school, to confront the shooter and he didn't.
It was not Colonel Beltrame's job to offer himself up, yet he did and he did it knowing situations like this never end well. It was an incredibly brave thing for him to do and he paid the ultimate price.
I learned today from a post by Lanfranchi Blanche Jean Baptiste in FB that he was originally from Vico, Corsica, which is about 20 miles north of Corsica. RIP Colonel Beltrame.

What an amazing, brave man, exchanging his life for a woman he did not know.

Speechless...
