View Full Version : Alizée Defined

Evidently I was bored so I visited my favourite dictionary website on the interweb- UrbanDictionary.com and searched for You Know Who.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Aliz%E9e

I found it to be unbelievably funny- one of the funniest things that I've ever read. For the sake of convenience, I copied my favourite parts here (more or less the entire thing but more condensed if you're not interested in reading the link).

-every woman is a percentage of Alizee, the higher the %, the closer she is to perfection, only Alizee has 100%
-Gods beauty poured into a woman and packaged by the French.
-Alizée would have stolen my heart, had I not given it willingly.
-What angels wish they were.
-Alizee's ass could motivate men to war, inevitably forcing yet another French surrender. (I'm most certainly not an anti-French person, but I'll readily admit that that's absolutely hilarious.)
-2. Personification of success.
--E.g. "Do you guys know the best singer in the world?" "Oh, you mean Alizée. Yeah, she is the BEST!!!!!"
--E.g. "You are so successful, just like Alizée."

And then the last entry says she has a terrible voice, a comment that earned a thumbs-down and a heart-felt "FU!" from me.

Edit: After reading that, I decided to create this:
http://img424.imageshack.us/img424/1185/churchjpg6oi.jpg

I can't help but think there is something funnier that I could have put on the sign, but what exactly that is eludes me.

I've been making some fake trading cards loosely modeled after Pokemon and Magic the Gathering for the last day or two. Today I made a couple more minor changes to the card and created the ultra-rare collector's edition holographic Alizee trading card.

Any thoughts on popularizing worship of Alizee?

Lol, that was funny :)

I just found out today that her name is pronounced Ah-lee-zeeeeee, not ah-lee-zay.

I watched a video on Youtube.com, and I clearly and distinctly heard her state her name into a microphone, she said, " ah-lee-zee "

I've been pronouncing her name ah-lee-zay for months, lol

cybersoil
07-06-2006, 02:48 AM
Nope, it's Zay. I've watched many, many of her videos and they say, "ZAY."
Besides, Brigitte, Gabriela, Achille, Thibaud, and Charles (All French) say Ah -Lee -Zay Also, Alizee's two girl friends (Monique and Corinne) called her Ah-Lee-Zay. Also, I called her Ah-Lee-Zay and wasn't corrected. So it's "ZAY."

You need to go to Youtube.com and see the video.. she clearly says ah-lee-zeeee into a microphone. You quoted everyone but Alizee herself saying her name, lol. Here's the link...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZ6xZNzr8KY

told ya!!! Here's another link of a different video, i think she said ah-lee- zay in this one, lol

She says her name both ways!!!!

cybersoil
07-06-2006, 03:29 AM
Don't care how the video say's it. I know it's, "Zay" from first-hand knowledge. She probably just supresses the "Zay" when she says it. But... say it any way you like.

The second "e" is added to make the name feminine and is not pronounced. The first "e" has the french "accent aigu" over it, making it an "A" sound, as in "ZAY."

It's really more of a matter of personal opinion and pronunciation ability, as well as proper following of the French language. The syntax for a word will not always be perfect, nor continuous with an individual.

Matrix:

---------------------------------------------------
You're right, she didn't say it once but she didn't have to, everyone already knows who she is. One of the benefits (or downfalls) of being famous, I guess.

I know the video he is talking about .. it does sound like she is saying 'zeee'. In fact, I can think of several occasions where she tends to say her name 'ah-lee-zee'.

However, the proper way to say it is 'ah-lee-zay', I am sure of that (especially for a dumb american).

Spartan500
07-06-2006, 11:22 AM
or it sounds like she makes the zay short

Matrix
07-06-2006, 05:32 PM
Why would Alizee pronounce her name with the ZEEE, knowing that the proper way to say her name is ZAAAAY, why would she do that?

And we are not just talking about a word, no rather we are talking about someones given name, their birth name!

And when I hear the actual bearer of that name pronouncing it a certain way, well there you go, voila!

Like scameter said, Alizee has a personal opinion on pronunciation and her ability to speak is unique as it is in all of us, and on that particular day Alizee chose to pronounce her name a certain way into that microphone.

Alizee you confused me, you tease! :p

brad
07-06-2006, 05:51 PM
I think you are looking at it too closely. You are an english speaker focusing on one syllable of a French word.

For example. If a girl is named 'Andrea' you wouldn't be confused by someone saying 'Ann-drea' as opposed to 'Ahhn-drea'

That is how I see it anyway.

Spartan500
07-06-2006, 11:03 PM
that sounds about right brad

scameter
07-07-2006, 03:04 AM
I agree brad. And, matrix, my point with saying that is that she is not perfect, and wouldn't always pronounce her name as it should be pronounced by the grammar of the French language. I am an English speaker, and yet I pronounce many names that are most likely done so incorrectly. And, it is also a matter of dialect; remember, she is Corsican, not French. She is speaking French, which indeed may be the language of Corsica as well, but she would have a different dialect than those of France, just as someone from England would speak differently than someone from America, and even someone from the North or the South or West America. It is really quite interesting to me personally, as I have a keen interest in philology, but it's really no more than that.

I wasn't sure where would be the best place to say this, but it was too good to keep to myself.

I was talking with a friend that I frequently play games online with and he wanted me to download a program that I wasn't really keen on getting. In exchange, I had him download and sing part of Moi... Lolita. His father was in the next room and heard him singing. My friend tried to tell his father that he was reciting a poem for school next year. His parents questioned this explanation and he had to go into the next room to explain to them that he doesn't do drugs.

I'm also working on another picture in Photoshop. This one will take a while to finish but I expect it to be far better than the other ones.

edit: Tonight, I had another great idea. I still haven't finished the previously mentioned project, but I started another. I can't wait to finish these ones.

I was struck with the idea to make a 'Where's Waldo' for Alizee quite suddenly this afternoon. I'm not sure where the idea came from, but I'm glad I had it. While making the picture I was struck with two realizations. The fist is that Waldo only appears once in each picture. The second was that Waldo is not a beautiful person. I believe that the reason why he's only in each picture once is because of the second reason. Following this logic, I decided to add more pictures of Alizee. Now, not only can you search for Alizee, you can try and count all of them.

I ran out of celebrities to use around 25 or so and none of my friends would tell me more. This is the reason why I put a dragon in there.

I made the picture the size of my desktop but I doubt that it's the same size as yours since I have a rather weird resolution. If you would like to use it (hey, who would turn down a chance to hunt for Alizee every time they turn on their computer?) I'd be happy to make a different sized picture. If I make other sizes, I'll be sure to mix up the pictures too.

Edit: I'm so clever- I made it and I still couldn't find one of them for a while. :-D

I love the pic but who the hell is that guy in the funky blond wig??? Is that you?

Hey, is that Jenifer Bartoli in there too? It looks like her. The girl dressed in all black with the microphone in hand. If it is, that's cool! I like seeing them together. Ahhh... my dream, Alizee sitting on my left lap and Jenifer on my right. Or vise-versa, makes no difference.

I LOVE IT!!!!! Thanks.....

- Cybersoil

PS
Did you ever notice how many people love Alizee? I don't mean wanting to bone her, I mean respecting her and are reallly in love with her. You don't see a fanbase like that with Britney or Christina. Yes, indeed, Alizee is something very, very special. Women like her only get born probably once in a millennium. Let's see... Helen of Troy, Cleopatra, Joan of Arc, Barbara Bush, and Alizee. Yeah, that's about it.

PPS
Just teasing about Barbara...:D

RadioactiveMan
07-08-2006, 11:30 AM
Yeah, I put Jenifer, Lorie, Axelle Red, Mylene Farmer, and France Gall in there. Bubba (that's the only name that a fat guy with a beard wearing a wig could possibly have) is there because while I was looking for a picture of Shakira to include, one website gave me that instead of Shakira. I assume that they didn't want me stealing their picture. I considered including myself, but I decided that though it might be a little funny, it'd look weird.

No, it's Shakira on steroids... or at least what she'd look like if she took as many as Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa or Barry Bonds. Of course, I can see from your picture that she also dyed her hair blond.:D

I didn't think that a whole new thread was appropriate for just this one signature, so I'll put it here with the rest of my things. I'm leaving town for a week, which means that none of my friends at socom3.com will get to hear me talking about Alizee the whole time. I couldn't bear taking Alizee away from them, so I recruited a friend to wear this signature for me. I had to make it tonight since I'm leaving tomorrow, so it was done extremely quickly. However, I love how it turned out. It's an unbelievably simple signature, but I think it's great. In particular, I like what I did with my friend's name (SwissMiss).

http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/1253/alizeeswissgift20yc.jpg

http://i2.tinypic.com/1zxqec4.jpg

The first is what I made for her and the second is what she made because she wanted the text to be larger. I didn't object since she was going to wear the signature, not me, but I much prefer the smaller and less intense text that I used. She wanted the text changed since she found mine to be a little grainy.

I like this one as much as my last Alizee signature (not counting the airplane one that I'm currently using) which you can see here (http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/5142/alizsig35kr.jpg) if you're interested.

Edit: I made a second one for another friend. He requested pink and I'm very happy about this one too.

He is playing an A flat major chord in the first form on just the bottom two strings (E and A strings), probably as they just wanted the bottom notes to be played rather then strum out all six strings.

Actually he is playing the E, A and D strings there, but yeah he is playing a Ab. The chord sequence of the song being C#/Db (5th root)/ F (5th root)/ G#/Ab (6th root)/ F (6th root).

All chords played are basic 3 string power chords. This can be heard best on the En Concert version when Gil first comes in with the riff at the beginning of the song before the rest of the music joins in.

Edit: Thought I may as well as a tab of the chord structure of the song to make it easier
