AA-1, I hope you don’t mind my posting this, but I think some people here would be interested.

I have managed to get my hands on a cd with a track by our own AA-1, and I am happy to report that she is an excellent singer! When AA-1 revealed awhile back that she is a Russian singer who has performed on the show Fabrika Zvezd (Star Factory), my curiosity was piqued. At that time, I was already getting into Russian pop music, and, when scouring ebay for it, I had seen cd’s from that show but had not paid much attention to them. After AA-1’s revelation, however, I went back and looked at them more closely until I found one that not only had her singing on it but even has her picture on the front! I promptly ordered a copy, and it arrived in the mail today. Here’s the cover, can anyone spot her? (Hint: she’s not the bald guy.)

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n109/spysmasher/Fabrika_Zvezd_4.jpg

I wish I could share her song with everyone, but, legal issues aside (and let’s not get into that here, please!), I don’t even know how to take a track from a cd and convert it into postable form. So all I can do is let everyone know that this cd is out there (you can find it on ebay) and attest to the fact that AA-1 is a very talented singer. I haven't listened to the rest of the cd yet, but I am already happy with my purchase.

Side note to AA-1: You haven’t come out with your own album yet, have you? When you do, please let us know. I, for my part, would be interested in purchasing one.

Google her name, Ларина Ксения, and you will find more. (why is it spelt Ларина Ксения on the CD, wouldn't Kseniya Larina be Ксения Ларина? Sorry I only vaguely know the Russian alphabet from studying turn of the century Russian artistic movements). There is also more in the multimedia section on her site which she posted. http://larina-official.nm.ru/ (make sure you set your character encoding in your browser to Cyrillic if you want the Russian alphabet properly displayed)

PS: anyone have any advice on how to properly pronounce the Russian letter Рр, other than it's pronounced ehr and to sound Russian you have to roll it. I have heard it pronounced properly, I just can't get my tongue to cooperate and do it myself yet, and it bothers that it stops me from properly pronouncing some Russian names.

Here's a free mp3, Ксения Ларина - Дотронься(Dotronsya), I assume it's free because it's free to download from here http://www.zaycev.net/ (http://www.zaycev.net/pages/23/2379.shtml). (Click on Ксения Ларина - Дотронься to download, my direct link wouldn't work.)

And for those who don't trust my knowledge of the Russian alphabet (don't blame you) here a site that confirms that Kseniya Larina is Ксения Ларина in the Russian alphabet. http://www.peoples.ru/art/music/pop/larina/

But there are other songs and interviews and pictures all on her site, which I already linked.

Being able to switch between the Russian Cyrillic letters and their Roman letter equivalents is about all I can do (only really useful if you are looking for something you know the name of on a Russian site, like music by a certain singer :)). I only know about a dozen or so words in Russian and an odd phrase or two.
This is an important one to know: Вы говорите по-английски?
Pronounced, bold syllables stressed: Vi gavareetye pa angleeskee?
Means: Do you speak English?
So I've been told, but don't hold me to it. :)

For some reason, my comp cannot read the Cyrillic letters on her site, but they show up fine on other Russian sites that I have visited. As for why her name is spelled that way on the cd – beats me! I have only just begun to learn how to do the old Cyrillic-Roman switcheroo. One thing I have observed, though, is that there are apparently alternative ways that certain Cyrillic letters can be transliterated into the Roman alphabet. For example, there is a Russian girl group called Блестящие which I have seen rendered as Blestyachie or Blestyashie or Blestyaschie or even Blestyashchie. (I will refrain from saying, “It’s all Greek to me” … oops! I just said it!)

And congrats, Rwd, you were the first to correctly identify AA-1(Kseniya) in the picture! You win a cookie.

It's all Greek to me, the irony of that phrase in this context. The Cyrillic alphabet is named after St Cyril, a Greek monk, and the Russian alphabet is based on the Greek alphabet with new letters added to cover the Slavic sounds that do not exist in Greek.

For Блестящие I would've put this Blestyashchie but я can be ya or ia and ш is sh but is easily confused with щ is shch. But I am only guessing and there are different systems of transliteration, only someone fluent in Russian could tell you.

EDIT: Have you tried going to character encoding (under the View menu in Firefox) and switching it to Cyrillic character encoding, it's what I had to do before they would render right, even though on other sites they have rendered correctly.

I found a place where you can hear Kseniya's song that is on the cd I bought. It's here:

http://www.russiandvd.com/store/product.asp?sku=35067&genreid=

Her song is track 6 (К. Ларина “Пузырьки лимонада”).

This is apparently another version of the cd that I got. The cover is different and the order of the songs is different, but the title is the same. I don't have my cd handy at the moment, and I can't remember if mine has quite as many tracks as this one. Anyway, Kseniya's song is the same.

Both those songs and more are available from her official site (http://larina-official.nm.ru/) (http://larina-official.nm.ru/). Just click on Multimedia in the menu under the photograph and you will be brought to this list(if the Cyrillic letters render, it is longer on the site). Notice the fourth one down is French.

Running the lyrics that are available through a Russian to English translator gives you an idea, but we all know how bad online translators are. :)

This is what I got for Пузырьки Лимонада (second song on the list), I can only begin to imagine how many mistakes there are in it, but thought it would be fun to put it up.

yea, I put just the title in and got "bubbles lemonade" My guess is that the sentence structure is different in Russian and it's really "lemonade bubbles". Lemonade bubbles make a hell of a lot more sense.

Guys & Gals - sorry to say this - but i just clicked this link:

And my anti-spyware kicked in and said that i shouldn't go to the site, because it detected a "phishing" filter? I'm not really Tech savvy - so thought i would post here so that maybe someone who knows more might investigate.

Back on message - she has a sweet voice... :)

Bah! It might be one of the popup pages that it detected. Personally, I don't much care since I'm not giving any of my personal information to them. Phishing is basically when a website displays a web address that it really isn't or one similar to the real address.

Wow! I love your music, you sound so beautiful! I've downloaded a few of your MP3s from a link someone posted and now would like to pay you.

Kseniya, since I don't know if you have your own CD out yet and don't know where to buy it if you do, please tell us you PayPal account so I can pay you directly. I would like to send/pay you $20 for the MP3s I have.

I'm listening to you sing "Dotronsya" as I type this posting. As with Alizee, I don't have a clue what you're singing about but God, you sound so beautiful! What a voice! Music truly is the universal language.

Please... let me pay you for your work. I'm awaiting your answer (your PayPal account.) If you don't already have a PayPal account you should get one. The accounts are free and they can be used for many things, like eBay, a growing number of online stores, and me paying you. You can sign up here: https://www.paypal.com

Kseniya, I don't about all the contractual legalities between you and your music publisher about how you and they get paid but if I can't legally pay you directly then I would like to send you $20 just because I want to, not for your music.

I await your answer. Thanks.

For those of you who like Russian music or want to explore it more, the site I linked before (http://www.zaycev.net/), has tons of mp3s for free. Not all by Russian artists but if you click on one of the letters in the alphabet (choosing the Russian alphabet on the bottom should give you only Russian artists) above the ad (for sliming skin cream, breast/penis enhancing cream, pheromone perfume, whatever it cycles) you will get a list of artists whose name starts with that letter. Click on one of them then click on the large font like you did for Ксения Ларина - Дотронься to get the mp3. (If you haven't gotten it from her site, Ксения Ларина - Пузырьки Лимонада is also available on page 16 of the К's from here.)

I didn't know if I should post this because of all the discussions about downloading mp3s (if you must comment please do so in that thread), but I thought it would be useful for those looking to explore more Russian music. Just remember if you like it you should try and buy it, that way you give the artist a better chance of being able to make more.

I'm not necessarily into Russian music but rather am into any beautiful voice and beautiful song in any language. You have to admit that AA-1 definitely has a beautiful voice and a great song. And yes, I want to help support her in anyway that I can. Hence, the PayPal account or a link to buy her CD will do also. But I would like to pay her directly so she can get 100%. Personally, I don't really care about the music companies.
