That's a pretty good bio on Alizee's career.

One minor thing it seemed to get wrong was it said "Alizée grew up in Ajaccio, Corsica. Known to all her friends by her nickname “Lili”, Alizée began dancing early in life, and by age four was already proficient.".

The story I've heard before is she started dancing at the age of 4.

It was interesting what it said about the English version of some of her songs on MCE.

"The albums features English versions of four tracks. The translations are artistic translations rather than literal, attempting to capture the rough feeling and concepts rather than the specific words and expressions. In some cases they are “dumbed down”, lacking the clever French wordplays of the originals".

I think it was an interesting use of the term "dumbed down".

If it was dumbed down, was it dumbed down because of what they thought of the audience who were going to be listening to them, or maybe they were dumbed down because they weren't proficient enough in the English language to come up with better versions, which is what I suspect?

I believe Alex has followed MF. I'd like to know what impressions he's gotten of her English skills over the years.

It was interesting too to see what Alizee said several years ago about the split.

"Alizée: We left each other seven, eight years ago because I wanted to take flight. We didn’t quarrel, but it’s true that it’s been a long time since we’ve seen each other.

During some interviews, she is obviously questioned about her collaboration with Mylène Farmer and Laurent Boutonnat for her first two albums Gourmandises and My Electric Currents as well as her first tour in 2003
.
According to Alizée, it was she was the one who chose to end this artistic collaboration in order to be able to evolve musically.

This is what she indicated in the program “We are not lying” broadcast Saturday on France 2.

Similar comments today on RMC in Brigitte Lahaie’s show:

Brigitte Lahaie: You were very helped by Mylène Farmer …
Alizée: Yes
Brigitte Lahaie: You are, I imagine, still on good terms …
Alizée: We left each other seven, eight years ago because I wanted to take flight. We didn’t quarrel, but it’s true that it’s been a long time since we’ve seen each other."

Eh no, I don’t think it’s either. The English lyrics are “dumbed down” in the sense that the French lyrics are cleverer - linguistically, there are a lot of double meanings in the French lyrics. These don’t translate to English so the English lyrics don’t have the same depth in meaning and are less fun to analyse. This is what it means about how the English lyrics lack the clever French wordplays. I might add a clarifying example if you like.

Of course, she knows english well, cause she spent her childhood in Canada.

Well I've been to Quebec a couple of times and there are people there who speak French who don't speak English or pretend not to speak English. There has been strong separatist's views there over the years and many people in Quebec rather just speak French.
