They have strange sense of humor  In fact I like most the reaction of the older lady who is almost unaffected. She makes the yelling guy look ridiculous :D

I'm not sure, but I know Brad Nowell died before the singles got big. Another talented musician taken too soon.

nurvonic 10-24-2006 03:45 PM

actually, i do know he died of a heroin overdose before the album release. i read it on wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brad_Nowell

theres also some interesting connections with Kurt Cobain, who also had a heroin addiction

Agreed, the Japanese really do have an unusual sense of humor but who am I kidding, once you see shows such as "Jackass" on American tv, you get used to the fact that there are a lot of idiots out there.

NANAKI 10-24-2006 07:29 PM

I liked it it was pretty funny

Sublime was great, a girl I met at university said she met them and said their dog didn't like her, she was cute so I didn't really care if it was true, not saying it wasn't I just didn't care. But some of their early stuff was really great. That crazy Rollie guy on Robbin' the Hood was hilarious.:D

Ah, Sublime discussion on an Alizée forum, in my eyes nothing could be sweeter *tears up*

I thought I would stir things up with a rocking blonde from Montréal, Marie-Chantal Toupin. I wish I had stuff off her new live album but it only came out Oct 3, look for her on the French stations promoting it if you live in Canada (Oct 30 on TVA and Nov 4 on La Fureur on Radio-Canada). The first video is the long version of En Toi, 16 min total but only 10 min because of YouTube restrictions. Don't worry the song is only the first 4 minutes.

Marie-Chantal Toupin - En Toi
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bHy7UuEFgxg"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bHy7UuEFgxg" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
PS: I love what she says at 8:15, can't say that on Much.:D

Another video off her last studio album Non Négociable - Cette mélodie

From her 3rd album Maudit Bordel
Marie-Chantal Toupin - Soirée de filles
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/C5ut2N-XtpI"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/C5ut2N-XtpI" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

The title track off this album - Maudit Bordel

A song from the self titled album
Marie-Chantal Toupin - Comment j'pourrais te l'dire
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1jp7YUfrS8U"></param><param name="wmode"value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1jp7YUfrS8U" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Another great song from her self titled album -J'veux que tu saches

PS: For those of you practicing French Rs, IMO she pronouces her Rs just fine;)
And the audio quality sucks in some of these videos do yourself a favour and get the mp3s. Archambault sells them and pretty much every CD by every artist out of Québec.

EDIT: In case it mixes you up Toé is Québecois for Toi, like Moé is for Moi, but they are not used all the time. And tanné as in Je suis tanné or Chu tanné means fed up, so much so I had to look up marre to know what it meant. :)

La Belle et la bete

With all the Alizée-inspired Francophiles here, I was wondering if anyone has seen that classic French film, Jean Coctaeu’s Beauty and the Beast? Here’s a clip –

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Bt1TNeKoabE"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Bt1TNeKoabE" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

It’s been some years since I’ve watched the whole thing, but I remember the Beast’s castle being pretty creepy – excellent effects, esp. for such an old film.

Long before Alizée, this film inspired me to learn a little French – just a little ... one line, actually. There’s one scene where the Beast says (in French), “Pardon me … for being a beast!” I remember watching that scene over and over until I learned how to say that (I’ve forgotten now … it’s been a few years). I just thought that was a great line to be able to say in French.

Anyway, it’s a great film, and I recommend it if you haven’t seen it.

Amelie 10-27-2006 02:40 PM

i haven't seen this film...but i like Disney's fairytales, they are so lovely, and make very soft feelings

spysmasher 10-27-2006 04:05 PM

I think the Disney version of Beauty and the Beast was influenced by Cocteau -- visually, at least. For myself, I prefer Cocteau's version.

Clémence Saint-Preux is 18 isn't she? Ands thanks for letting me know that Mes Jours was the new unreleased album, no wonder I couldn't find it after seeing the photo in a gallery.
Had I taken the time to read the bio, or read beyond the TITLE IS CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE that the Clémence CD from amazon.ca was only a single, I would have known better though.:)

Clémence turns 18 on November 29. LOL, Quentin you think she looks 10 or something.

aFrenchie 10-27-2006 09:02 PM

She says that she's 13 at the beginning of that video with Hallyday (at 0:19).

Spartan500 10-31-2006 03:09 PM

Great song. Originally written by Tears For Fears, and re-arranged by Michael Andrews for Donnie Darko (Gary Jules just sings).

One of the guys from Tears for Fears said he likes Andrews' version better. :)

The Weepies - World Spins Madly On

Speaking of mad worlds...here's "The World Spins Madly On." I guess the song doesn't have an official music video on YouTube, so instead you get Kristen Bell eye candy:

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gwmbjNOEySA"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gwmbjNOEySA" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

You know how sometimes you hear a song and think, "I wish I had written that"? That's how I feel about this song (as well as a select few others).
