Great! You found the clip I was talking about. I believe nearly all of Alizée exaggerated expressions are consciously chosen with the intent of being funny. Some of them may have become so habitual that they are now instinctive, but even so, they are intentional. There is one other video I especially love. Gregorie is teaching Alizee the tango and he wants her to take on a serious persona during this dance. So Alizee puts on an angry face that is so out of character for her that Greg can't help but stop to laugh. Despite his laugh, whenever she does this dance she adopts this grave expression that simply cannot be taken seriously. Unfortunately, I don't have that clip. There is one instance where Alizee made an exceptional facial expression that was instinctive. She is about to take one of her fan's by surprise. Here we see a rare instance where she displays stage fright. Alizee makes an unusual expression in an attempt to brace herself for what is about to come. Scruffydog caught that moment on one of his videos that I posted on the link below. You can see it at the 1:10 mark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCpX...&index=25&t=0s |
I think this is the moment Shepherd is talking about where she exhibited stage fright.
http://youtu.be/otI1V8AlDA4?t=404 and here is another video I think, Shepherd referenced to. Here Gregoire wants her to be serious for the Tango and she says she can't but which is kind of ironic because, in her opposition to something she doesn't believe in, she is so serious. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9-Y-l8ot_c |

When she does the face scrunch at 0:53, she gazes directly at the camera--- I'm 100% certain that she was directing it at the camera. I'm wondering, what is the audience situation here? How large is the audience? This camera seems to be close to the stage. Maybe there was a small group of fans in this one area of the audience--- perhaps a number of cameras being held up--- something that Alizee would notice from the stage? (I'm speculating here.) So that's my theory. There is a small group of fans seated toward the front of the stage holding up cameras. Alizee is aware of this--- and so at 0:53, just for the heck of it, she flashes a face scrunch right at the camera. Its a deliberate action on Alizee's part. (I know it happens fast, but this is yet another demonstration of how good Alizee's reflexes are.) Watch it again... the face scrunch is being directed right at the camera--- am I right? Its unmistakeable. |

Here is a good picture of the stage and the audience. This scene requires being on the rear part of the stage because it is widest. As you can see, the audience is not right up to the stage. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/5653/KS6A87.jpg This picture is also from the production version of LE 2013. You can see Alizee on the right side at the approximate time that it happens. This was one of several cameras going and they cut from one to another frequently. Alizee is not seen very much on the produced version, and you would have to take my word for it that a camera was not at that angle she was looking at. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...924/0FQxAW.jpg Also, this song was sung very early in the show. Alizee was not aware of this group of fans until Garou pointed it out later in the show. Scruffy put out a video not long ago that shows this. It was in the second half of the show where she waves and smiles at them. http://youtu.be/wocn_FGHId4 So, I disagree with your theory. I think the scrunch is just something she does, an extension of her personality. You seem pretty set on thinking just the opposite, and it's fine if we disagree. |

The link is still working for me. I did try to resize the photo by slicing off the sides but wasn't able to reduce it enough that way. I don't know how to reduce photos. The photo is still posted on Alizee International's FaceBook. You just have to scroll down (quite a bit) to find it. The photo shows Alizee with her hands in prayer and the image of Notre Dame Cathedral in the background. |
