The Dark Knight

Who saw it and what did you think? This film is breaking records already, it looks like it's going down in box office history. Shows sold out all over the country. Voted as the third greatest film of all time on the International Movie Database. Personally, I thought this film excelled on every possible level. It was so much deeper than the other Batman films, with great character development, atmosphere, story, casting....everything just came together. Others who have seen it already probably know what i'm talking about.

All I can say is that, Heath Ledger RIP. :(

I liked him in "A Knight's Tale" and I can't wait to see this last performance before his demise.

NarutoSoul 07-19-2008 02:17 AM

If only Heath had failed and Owen Wilson had succeeded... I'm sorry for offending anyone, but I f**king HATE Owen Wilson.

nurvonic 07-19-2008 04:00 AM

the movie was an unbelievable psycological thrill ride. it plays with your head and your emotions, and it even questions your own morals. it was amazing to me how the movie threw you around in all these different directions, whether dramatically or disturbingly. the key performance being the Joker. he not only played the character, but got completely lost in his performance so much so that i forgot that it was even heath ledger.

you are right, the movie succeeds on every level and is definately a must see.

You've had a lot of posts about how much you hate this country and how you want to move because it's so bad here and all, and I just brushed those off for various reasons. But when you actually wish death on someone, especially someone you don't even know? That's not only offensive, it's a little disconcerting. Come on, cheer up a bit.

Oh, and I'd rather go see Mamma Mia :)

you couldn't pay me enough money to go see that :p

i'm going to see The Dark Knight in 1 hour! :D

edit:

saw it - wow what an amazing movie!
the acting of course was great
the moral ambiguity was very profound
and the performance by Heath Ledgers was spectacular
it's one of those movies that you keep thinking about afterwards
and still trying to figure out all the stories/philosophies/morals (or lack thereof) expounded

truly a great movie

Bud10 07-19-2008 03:50 PM

I saw the midnight premier on opening night and I must its one of the best movies I seen. Heath Ledgers performance was brilliant.

I apologize for my recent negativity. It's a long story, and no one wants to hear it, so I'll just shut up. *shudders* I despise Mamma Mia...

TheBarrett 07-19-2008 09:15 PM

I loved Mamma Mia and the Dark Knight. Movies, sure why not? I like looking on the bright side of each film! (Unless it was a film about poser thugs or making an emo band, you couldn't cut my limbs off to watch those).

Dark Knight had a great plotline, and I overall enjoyed it, Ledger's last performance at this role will be legendary, as his possession of the character he portrayed was quite amazing.

SilentFox 07-19-2008 10:23 PM

ok all i can say is that it was the best film ive seen yet all year! there were so many good parts to it i just dont know what one to even talk about first!

Renegade 07-20-2008 12:36 AM

Movie sounds great I plan to go see it tomorrow with my cousins.
Hope it's not to crowded when we get there.
O yea Ciarac about Mama Mia (I was never really into musicals)

Respect To All
Peace Out:cool:

No problem, and venting is fine, just maybe try to find a more productive outlet for it like exercise or something, instead of just on the internet...I don't know your situation, but just some friendly encouragement.

And fine, if I have to defend Mamma Mia...I haven't even seen the show, but I'm a huge Broadway fan, but more importantly, I'm a huge ABBA fan, and I grew up listening to all of the songs in that play/movie so it's something I'd enjoy for that reason alone. It'd be the same if someone took all of Alizee's songs and put a story to it and made it into a play. Come on, that'd be a really good show!

Amigo! 07-20-2008 12:44 AM

Why so serious?

Hey renegade, it's good to hear from you :)

We'll now I have to say is that this movie was an incredible emotional thriller. The most disturbing joker ever , and thats a good thing ;) Unforgettable performance. There were parts in that film that even made me  and . especially when I jump :o. A must see.

I have a personal, and admittedly petty, reason for hating Mamma Mia. If you care to know why, I'm always open to a PM.

Future Raptor Ace 07-20-2008 12:54 AM

I want to see this move; according to the critics its really good. Its about about time they include the Joker in a Batman movie. I am a Marvel guy though.
I also want to ride the coaster but the line is always too dam long :p

How was the Joker disturbing:p I LOVED that movie because of him! One of the best villains in a movie ever! (I was more of a villain fan anyway, they make the movie interesting, and they tend to be a bit cooler in a stranger way :D)

I encourage you to see it, I went and it wasn't bad. I sort of enjoyed it in its own prime parts. As for the last idea...You might be on to something, because I just got a lightbulb...

A movie with a full Alizée soundtrack...why...GENIUS!

How about "Batman" when Jack Nicholson played him?

It's worked for a few things, actually. "Muriel's Wedding" had an all-ABBA soundtrack, in fact, and "I Am Sam" used new renditions of Beatles songs...and even "Across the Universe" was sort of like Mamma Mia with its use of Beatles songs to tell a story, but it just wasn't a play first. I'm sure there's more like that, but yeah, I'll start on a screenplay for Alizee lol

"The Dark Knight" has made it's way to number 1 on the IMDB Top 250. It has an average rating of 9.7/10, it knocked "The Godfather" from the top spot. Incredible.

That used to be the best Batman, doesn't hold a candle to this one though.

Incredible movie. I haven't felt this way after seeing a move for the first time since I saw A Clockwork Orange.

tbailey 07-20-2008 10:48 AM

there are only a few compliants that i have

1. they should NOT have given the opening scene away for the movie preview. The opening scene would have been MUCH BETTER w/o already knowing what was going to happen

2. if anything they tried to include too much in this movie
there is one character that could have had his/her own movie story line

3. i would have liked more scenes with the Joker obviously

4. too many story lines/philosophies/morals/immorals expounded in the movie
by including less they could have focussed more on in-depth development

5. a little on the long side - would have cut it by 15-20 minutes

6. they should have just used regular makeup/effect for a character's face
computer effects shouldn't have been used b/c it just looked completely fake

6. some of the scenes or things that happen are just outlandish - i know it's an action flick but i would have liked a little more down to earth ideas

Things that really worked in this movie

1. the casting - all the actors did an amazing job!

2. the musical score is just spectacular - everytime i hear it i get chills in my spine. One of the best musical scores i have ever heard

3. original writing - questions everyday conceptions of morality and in not just the typical manner

4. A great mixture of seriousness and comedy (although not too much included) - it's difficult to get the right mixture but they got it right in this one

5. Overall didn't use too much CGI which i think worked really well in this movie - made it seem more realistic

6. Filmed in Chicago ;)

7. A very powerful movie - emotionally concentrated in the movie. Will definitely grab your attention

8. A part from the opening scene - you didn't really know what was going to happen next. Lots of turns in the plot which made you uneasy throughout the movie

9. the Joker had the whole city in turmoil - this adds to the element of uneasiness and to the overall power and evilness of the Joker

10. a very unsettling movie to watch - a cross b/w a thriller/horror/action/love film: wow the more i think about the film the more i love

Overall i give it a 9.6 :D

a great movie!

edit:

Dark Knight made 155.3 million this three day weekend (thus far - still have to get all of Sunday)

that is an all-time record beating Spider Man 3

this movie could easily break the 420 million level making it one of the biggest movies ever

this coming week/weekend though will be a better indicator as to how popular this movie will be

mavsluver41 07-20-2008 10:16 PM

Ah damn! Tbailey, you beat me to the post about Dark Knight's record breaking weekend. Saw it two hours ago and the joker's maniacal cackle is still reverberating within my skull. I smell an oscar nomination, and hopefully, a win.
