Interesting. Without the benfit of understanding French, to me, this looks a lot like an historically-based action/revenge/drama similar to something Mel Gibson would do.... Braveheart springs instantly to mind.

I didn't know Laurent was into films, let alone directing them. I thought he was just a pop musician/composer. We're sure this is the same Laurent Boutonnat?

Seems like French history... done by Frenchies, genious!

I never heard about this project by L.Boutonnat but "Jacquou le Croquant" is a very well known TV series created back in 1969 and that was excellent:

He'd better save the same reputation on that title! He'll be surely severely judged if he ever failed on that old masterpiece's remake!

Hell yeah it's the same Laurent! Film is his first passion. In fact, pretty much all he did with Mylene in the early days was to lead up to and earn money for his life-long dream project, Giorgino. Getting to finally make that film with Mylene in the early 90s, and it's subsequent critical and commercial failure, is pretty much the turning point in both their careers.

Anyway, this new film looks nice... though the critics are responding to it much the same as his last one: beautiful to look at, but over-long, over-boring, and over-indulgent. Though then again, I loved Giorgino, so who knows. And there's a Mylene song on the new Laurent-composed soundtrack, so it's all good as far as I'm concerned! :)

EDIT: Amelie was just talking about said song here:

That's interesting. As I can only understand about 10% of the French words in the trailer, my first impressions were great cinematography and great score. The two parts I can actually judge myself are the two parts the critics think are good.

One reason I follow Laurent is I like his composing. After all, the success of Alizée goes well beyond her voice and performance. The songs she sings are composed very nicely. And that credit goes to Laurent.

Indeed, Laurent is an awesome composer! And filmmaker and just all around creative person. In some ways, I think I'm primarily a fan of him. Alizée's great on her own merits, but it was the music that first attracted me, and it was a Laurent directed video I saw next (Moi... Lolita). I could take or leave Mylene as a performer, but just love all of Laurent's compositions, and then his music videos for her got me really interested. His stuff for Nathalie Cardone is fantastic as well. And his film soundtracks are simply majestic. I'm definitely gonna miss Laurent on Alizée's third disc!

Do you think she will have success without Laurent?
