Moi Lolita En Concert

I'm not sure if I've discussed this before but if I have, I feel the urge to bring it up again. There are so many songs of her I listen to on a regular basis such as ML in Amsterdam, JAM, L'Alize which I love singing along with, ACC, Gour, KO, PLP, Alcaline, Tempete, Youpidou, L'e-mail a des ailes, Toc de mac. Now one of those songs is not Moi Lolita En Concert. In fact, I ripped most of the songs from En Concert into singles with the exception of a few, one of them being ML.

But there are times when things get me down, which has happened frequently of late with our elections and what's going on in Europe and with my job and there are times I feel the need to listen to an Alizee song and it seems the one I'm always drawn to is Moi Lolita En Concert.

I think the part I like most about this song is when she first finishes singing it and you think it's over. That's usually the part in a concert where you want them to sing more and she does. Another thing I really enjoy about a concert is when the audience gets into it and when she does this encore I guess I call it, they are into it and the I think the music they added at that point was added was perfect and added a lot to it.

It reminded me of another performance of her where the audience really got into it that I really enjoyed.

Exclusive interview with Philippe Bouley
Philippe Bouley, photographer and guitarist of Alizée (see MF et vous number 3), confided to us for a long time, in a case of a beautiful present he has reserved for us, an original sketch by Mylène.
Interviewer Maxime Le Men, illustrations Collection Philippe Bouley

Picture text: The sketch was made by Mylène herself to explain Philippe her idea of a giant shoe for MCE album. We tell you the reproduction below. Exclusively!

This sketch by Mylène that you offer to the readers of Mylène Farmer et vous is a very nice present. It represents the giant shoe from the album Mes courants électriques. We want to know everything!

Unfortunately I don't have many things to say about this idea of a shoe, only that the idea is Mylène's and that the idea is effectively a part of Mylène's drawing. Laurent told me about this idea of a big shoe with Alizée sitting on top well before the photo-shoot. He had told me about the existence of this drawing but I couldn't see it. At the time, the priority was at the recordings of guitars for MCE. Some months later, in a photo studio at the edge of Paris, a giant shoe was made. I asked Mylène and Laurent if I could see this mysterious drawing, but there was no drawing! Few minutes later, Mylène came back with this very small drawing she had made in a hurry on a piece of paper. It's a replica of this famous and mysterious original drawing.

That's seems obvious, that , in Mylene's mind, the big red high heels is a symbol of adult feminity. Its a way to show the Lolita character, as a teen girl, who still feel " petite" in front of the giant figure of the sexy woman she will soon become.

And i think its linked to the way Mylène herself did a spectacular transformation from a shy teen to a sexy woman.

In Alizée's own words

"In the beginning, it was a drawing done by Mylene who was drawing an allusion to Alice in Wonderland."

The info and more is in the link below from a magazine article published 1st January 2004, when Alizée was asked how was the idea of the shoe born and what meaning does it have?

http://www.alizee-forum.com/content....r-Plus-2004-01

The whole premise of Alizée's first concerts were for Alizée to be Alice in wonderland, even some of the outfits etc, etc.

Well that's all I know from various magazine articles such as the one I posted above.

In fairy tales, the loss of a girl's shoe is associated with the loss of her virginity. Cinderella, for instance, went to the ball and lost her glass slipper. That still leaves the question, how did a shoe become associated with virginity?

Virgin Records, Ltd. was a major record label first founded by English entrepreneur Richard Branson. In fact the first real store was above a shoe shop at the Tottenham Court. The name Virgin, according to Branson (in his autobiography), arose from Tessa Watts, a colleague of his, when they were brainstorming business ideas. She suggested Virgin – as they were all new to business – like "virgins".

In the movie "Love in the Afternoon," Frank, who does not want Arianne go leave, hides her shoe in the pocket of his dressing gown. He embraces her, and Arianne finds the shoe, rapping him teasingly on the head with it before leaving. The shoe, lost, hidden, and then recovered, [in and out] has a double valence: it not only signifies Arianne's new-found sexuality, but also Frank's "lost" heart.

You never did hear the final episode of "The shoe"!
