What is your favorite Alizee charm?

It can be any personality trait that you find particularly irresistible.

For me, it's the "face scrunch". Every time she does it while singing, I swoon. I mean, I become putty in her hands.

She did it from the start of her singing career, but even in one of her more recent videos (Je veux bien), she does one that kills me.

It's right about at 2:29..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54r7Uzu4I1Q

Do you think it is something that might have been taught to her by MF, or is this natural?

Scruffydog777 01-14-2018 01:36 AM

There's a few occasions where you hear a certain sound from her voice. I'm not sure what you call it, but I've seen some people describe it as a croak, but I don't think that's right. Either way, I enjoy it.
You can hear it at the 1:39 and 1:47 mark in this video.

I think it's something that comes natural to her. I wonder if we can find something prior to MF to prove it.

Edit:

I also always enjoyed her little waves to her fans, several of which are featured in this video. This could've been something Mylene suggested she do, but I think it came naturally.

Great video...also the one where she does an interview in a tub has a lot of great facial expressions if I can find it.

What inspired an interview in a tub? I love it when she says "Merci" at the end of her performances.

Alizee's epic scrunch was in your early years video, Scruffy. I don't think she did a better one than this one. It's at 1:22.

Yes, this girl wears her hair stylist out. She looks fantastic as a blonde. The color I liked the least on her is one that was like an auburn. I personally like her natural black hair best.

<3 her facial expressions are so cute :D

You can post a video at a specific time ;)

Just pause the video when you want, right click and select "copy video URL at current time". That way it's more convenient and you see it right away :)

I'm sure the tub was inspired by the song J'en ai marre, where she's taking a bubble bath.

I think the most beautiful 'Merci" I've heard her say was when she sang JPVA in front of the Eiffel Tower. It's too bad the other woman was blabbing so much. Going back to Alizee 101, I wonder if our new members now what the occasion was on that day?

Thanks for the tip eru777. I didn't know that and they say you can't teach an old dog new tricks!

EDIT: I see when you do that, it will just prints the url if I'm not mistaken and not show the window for the video?

One gesture she does that I really enjoy is the way she flicks her hands up and to the side. It just looks beautifully feminine, probably because of her beautiful hands.

I believe that was the celebration of the new lights being installed on the tower, on the summer solstice.

Her saying "Merci" here and in many other videos are very endearing. They are so feminine and sometimes you can see her shyness come out.

I think the Eiffel Tower scene is about as a beautiful scene as you can get. She is stunning in that baby blue dress, the wind is blowing her hair, and she pans back and forth across the audience, smiling and waving. It doesn't get much better than this!

In at least two video (Eiffel Tower one included), she does this thing with her lips. Maybe you can call it pursing her lips. She doesn't do it while she sings though, but when she speaks. How would you describe it? It's yet another endearing thing.

She does it here at around 5:27:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNzGhg3HCQ0

And hear around 4:57:

You are correct sir! They had put strobe lights on the tower as a temporary thing and it was a big hit so they decided to make it a permanent thing and this was upon the completion of that installation. They turn the strobe lights on, in a flashing way of course at night every hour at the top of the hour for 10 minutes. I think they may have cut that back to 5 minutes now.

These are separate I believe as far as when they were installed, from the different flood lights they turn on to change the color of different sections of the tower.

Here was another moment where she was incredibly charming. It was during her rendition of Ella Ella. Just incredibly cute, incredibly charming. You can also hear some of that nasalnous in her voice that Rev spoke of at about the :23 mark.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MJIgeDRASQ

CleverCowboy 01-22-2018 03:30 PM

This one does not qualify as a bona fide face scrunch. It's like a mini-scrunch and closing of her eyes towards her right shoulder, making this charming gesture with her face. This two or three seconds is priceless.

Go to 1:34 for a second or two before does it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6PFRPjd9EA

Scruffydog777 01-22-2018 09:44 PM

It was definitely approaching a scrunch, but she teased us and pulled out at the last second.

For those who have the Rockollection video from 2002, she definitely approached the nose scrunch by the obvious dip of the eye brows at the 3:52 mark, but it wasn't that obvious because of the res of the video.

I have always loved this video. Alizee looks so great, so happy. She makes a pair of sweatpants look sexy.

This short outtake captures my favorite 5 seconds of the whole Ella Ella video. It's at :33 to :38, when there is a profile closeup of her singing. Her voice is so soft and feminine, singing the song in that beautiful language of French. It would not sound the same in any other language.

Lips and smile are the second thing I notice right off the bat with a woman (First thing is the eyes). Her smile is amazing, but for me it largely because she was a minimalist with makeup. She didn't warpaint her lips, but merely put on some gloss that enhanced her natural color.

I felt the same way about her fingernails. When she cut them to secretary length it enhanced the overall beauty of her fingers.

CleverCowboy 01-29-2018 08:16 AM

This face scrunch looks more like a wink. Or she has something in her eye. Most of her scrunches look deliberate, like she knows she is doing them. This one just seems to happen. Really cute.

It's at 1:10

Does anybody have any idea who the mystery woman is at 3:15?

Alizee glances to her right at 3:13 before she turns, then the camera shows this woman.

When Alizee starts to turn back toward the camera at 3:24, she is looking back at the same spot for several gorgeous seconds.

Just a shot in the dark, but perhaps this woman is significant in her life, or just a random audience member? The angle of Alizee's glance compared to this woman doesn't seem to support that they were looking at each other.

In any event, the glance at 3:24 is very charming.

In this L'alize performance they cut to various audience members frequently. I have always liked this performance because she looks like she is having fun and throwing those little waves out.

Here is an original version of that file, without doctoring.

Back in 2014 she performed Blonde on a tv program La chanson de l'année 2014. The thing was that her performance was recorded the day before the show without an audience, but on TV there was a magical audience present. There is a bit of discussion about it here:

I believe the woman is random. The camera operators look for people in the audience who are enraptured with the performance. :)

I wonder what the reason was for filming it the day before? I would think maybe she had another commitment because this was the time she doing a lot of promotional things for the album. The thought also entered my mind that maybe they were worried about what the crowd reaction would be during the show, but I don't believe that. I haven't been a big fan of the song Blonde, maybe because of the way it's been presented to us. But I thought this was a good setting which makes a difference and the dance routine was lively and I enjoyed it and I think if they had done in front of a live crowd, they would've been into it.

Shepherd 02-02-2018 04:03 PM

Watching Alizee in all these videos, she appears to enjoy the experience of singing before an audience. Which again raises the exasperating question, why did she give it up? I understand her albums weren't selling, but her audiences have always been enthusiastic. I think possibly the labor of finding new tunes, and the aggravation of getting the arrangement just right, arguing with everyone who has a different opinion, might be the reason. I wish she would just come out and say why she doesn't want to sing. Apparently, "stubbornness" is a Corsican characteristic, and Alizee prides herself on being a "true Corsican," thus she emphasizes that part of her personality. If this is so, it has done her career serious damage and vexed her fans no end.

You know, I'd love to see new stuff from her, but I don't want to see her bomb.
Maybe that's what's better for her life at the moment. You know, dancing only/ singing the occasional cover. I think her first love was dancing.

This guess is as valid as anybody else's.

I feel she is done as a solo artist. I feel she put a lot of faith in Blonde in getting her back on the map, and that failure, the fourth in a row, was too much for an ego to bear.

We all know she is superstitious. In that show where she meets Jenny, she used "lucky stars" twice. Once in the car describing her success, and telling Jenny it was her lucky stars that caused her to be selected. Maybe Alizee feels her luck just ran out.

I feel too many ex-fans have turned their back on her. She hasn't been the best at fan maintenance over the years. And what fans she has left are spread out all over the globe. It takes a lot of money and logistical knowledge to organize a world tour of any kind. I still wonder why she never was able to break into the US market, besides maybe the language barrier?

But, I am like you in that I wish she would just come out and say something. I would accept that her singing days are over. I think she should go into acting more. I think she has some good talent there.

eru777 02-02-2018 05:22 PM

I agree with CleverCowboy about language barrier thing. If she was an instrumental music composer for example, like Vangelis or Jean Michel Jarre, it would be a lot easier to market her music abroad.

She will always have fans in Mexico and Russia for example, even if she became part of a quartet that played Bach and Ravel pieces while wearing kimonos. But the fact is that she is French and I believe they don't endorse foreign language learning as much there. Which in terms can limit one's own audience. I know she had some of her songs translated but she almost never speaks in English in interviews I've seen. Or in instagram.

CleverCowboy 02-02-2018 10:20 PM

I have been wanting to ask if anybody knows if she knows any English? She has Forever Young tattoo in English. She sometimes wears shirts with English words on them. Also, in the Instagram posts by Annily, she comments in English. Seems like there might be some English understanding in that household.
