Just as a comparison, besides Alizée I am following two artists (so far) on Twitter, another singer (Nellie Furtado) and a writer (Neil Gaimon). Those two (especially Neil) put out between them the majority of tweets I see every day from the 9 people I'm following, one of whom is President Obama. The president doesn't tweet nearly as much as Neil, but he tweets a good deal more than Alizée does.
I think Neil overdoes it a bit; I can't see myself doing that much even if someday I'm as successful as he is now. But Alizée could move a bit more that direction, and engage in actual dialogues with fans on social media.
I think the fact that she studied under Mylène may be hurting her in this respect. Mylène can get away with being a recluse because she has a huge devoted fan base that she built in the age before social media. Mylène's penumbra helped Alizée build a following of her own, but she's not big enough she can get away with not using social media properly and marketing herself like a new artist. She's a new-era artist with name-recognition advantage but that won't help her unless she uses it.
