I'll tell you a pair on-ear headphones, a pair of Koss headphones does the trick for me.

While they aren't particularly expensive they're extremely good for listening to music and does everything you mentioned above fairly well. A little extra bonus is that they're extremely handy and easy to carry around simply by folding them in.
