I did the geology research as a summer job for two summers while I was going to college and just before I did my student teaching. Not exactly a hobby, since I was paid... but much nicer than the warehouse work I'd done for the 4 summers before. It wasn't exactly relaxing at times. Hiking up to the top of the landlside could take up to 3 hours (It's a BIG landslide)!
