actually it's more like: "where does the man come?", "homme" is used as "human being" not "man"
"d'où est" and "d'où vient" are translated the same way in english but the meaning is a little different in french
it's something like :where is he located? where does he comes from? from an original place to a destination
"Close the shutters" is a metaphore for "close your eyes"
