Two other possibilities are to use the PC version with an emulator or recompile the Linux version.
Of the two Mac users in the hub that I am aware of, one uses an emulator, and the other uses ShakesPeer.
I found there are several options:
1) Make sure you are using the latest version of ShakesPeer. They may have corrected the problem.
2) You can try MacDC++ found at:
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15390
-- it is an Alpha version so there might be stability issues.
3) One Mac user in the past used Valknut found at:
http://wxdcgui.sourceforge.net/
--keep in mind this was about 4 or 5 years ago so the current version may not have the support for the security features that keep many Mac users with older software from entering the hub.
4) At the Valknut site, one user made the same suggestion that I did initially: use LinuxDC++ found at:
http://linuxdcpp.berlios.de/articles.php?um=index
--you will naturally have to recompile it for the Mac OS.
5)The one Mac user I was able to talk to decided that the easiest thing to do was use an emulator with the PC version of DC++. He reports no problems.
I hope this helps...
