Alizée, who made us dance more than 20 years ago, to her song "Moi... Lolita" is today a fulfilled mother! She tells us the story behind the first names of her two daughters, Annily and Maggy.

Summary

- The history of the first name Annily
- The etymology of the first name Annily (Annie-Lee)
- The history of the first name Maggy
- The etymology of the first name Maggy

We grew up with her. Today, Alizée has put aside her singing career in favor of that of a dancer. Married since 2016 to Grégoire Lyonnet, the professional dancer with whom she won the show Dancing with the Stars, the young woman is now the head of the A&G Lyonnet dance studio in Ajaccio and mother of two daughters: Annily, 16 years old, born from her union with the musician Jérémy Chatelain, and Maggy, 2 years old. She tells us the story of these two choices of first names.

The history of the first name Annily

"Jérémy Châtelain's mother (editor's note: Annily's dad, from whom Alizée divorced in 2011) died two years before Annily was born. Her name was Annie. She was ill for a long time, for years. When our daughter was born, Jérémy wanted to pay tribute to his mother without giving her the same first name. Her death was still recent, and we did not want the family to make a "transfer" on the baby. Compound name Anny-Lee, which existed in the United States, but we didn't want an American name. So we invented Annily. And my oldest daughter really likes her first name!

The etymology of the first name Annily (Annie-Lee)

The first name Annie means Grace in Hebrew. It is the diminutive of Anne. As for the first name Lee, it has several meanings: clearing in English, poetic in Irish and strength, cutting edge, standing in Chinese. Lee is also a very common Chinese surname. Variant: Li. Characterology: sense of duty, method, reliability, commitment, tenacity.

The history of the first name Maggy

We struggled to find a name that we don't hear everywhere. We have a lot of girls in our dance school and therefore we hear a lot of Corsican first names. Even though I am very attached to my roots, I find it complicated to have a Corsican first name and to travel to the continent. I realize that when we bring the children to the competition and we have to call them at the microphone at the airport, some have (a little) unpronounceable names. We were therefore looking for a first name that was easy to wear, but unusual, which was not in the French top.

The logo of our dance studio consists of our initials A and G (for Alizée and Grégoire). Our first idea was to find a first name that begins with a G so that Grégoire and our daughter have the first letter of their first name in common, as is the case with Annily and me. But for a little girl, it is not easy and we could not find a first name in G!

I had bought a book of names that I looked up and down for days until I came to the first name Maggy. I was already 8 months pregnant. I found Maggy to be a soft name, neither long nor compound, whatever I was looking for. I like soft names for girls, I like old nameslike Louise, Mathilde... But I have the impression that they are coming back too fashionable. And this first name contains the two consecutive letters A and G, our two initials. We therefore started with this first name, without having others in comparison. When I offered it to Grégoire and Annily, they liked it straight away. Grégoire, who is still struggling to decide, said to himself "Ok, we keep this first name for the moment and we will see at birth when she will be there". And when he saw Maggy for the first time, he thought that name suited her very well. I didn't want Grégoire to accept my ideas of first names to please me, I wanted it to remain a real choice as a couple.

For the spelling, we put a Y at the end, because the surname of Grégoire (Lyonnet) contains one, as does my maiden name Jacotey. These are little winks that people are not necessarily aware of. And this first name suits him pretty well!

We also chose second and third names for girls, those of grandmothers. Annily therefore has Annie, the first name of her paternal grandmother, and Michèle which is the first name of my mother. My grandfather who was called Paul died 5 years ago, I didn't want to call Maggy Paule, because it's always complicated to give the first name of a person who recently left to a child. So, I gave her a second name. Maggy also has the first name of Grégoire's grandmother, who is called Régine.

The etymology of the first name Maggy

The first name Maggy means Pearl (Greek). According to L'Officiel des Prénoms 2022 (First editions), it can be estimated that less than 30 children will be named as such in 2022. Variants: Maggie, Magguy. Characterology: vitality, strategy, ardor, achievement, achievement.

Maggy:
mAGgy = Alizée & Grégoire
maggY = jacoteY & lYonnet
