Eight walked out of the Forest to a road. She smelled Food on the other side of the road; so she started across. A truck slammed on it's breaks ! "Are you crazy ? Do you want to get killed ! the Trucker shouted at her. He took off. Eight walked into the all night grocery. She went to the frozen food; but there was only a picture of eggos and no packages ! She went up to the counter. Eggos she said ! I think we're out of them. we got a truck coming in Monday, we should have some then.
Eight laid her head on the Counter and began to Cry ! Don't do that, Henry the clerk said; Let me make you a Chili-Dog ! I don't want to eat no Dog, said Eight ! It's not really a Dog, we just call it that ! He fixed her a Hot Dog with Bun and Chili and Relish and Cheese on top. She started to eat it; and Henry told her Don't eat the paper, that's just to hold the bun ! He fixed her a large drink ! What's the Eight on your Top, he said ? Is that a band ? Eight is my name; said Eight ! How do you spell that, said Henry ? I don't spell, said Eight ? Can I have another Chili-Dog ? OK, said Henry and he fixed it. Do you have any Money ? I don't know what money is said Eight ! She finished the Chili-Dog and then said I am tired, I will go to sleep. Wait a minute said Henry, you can't sleep there in front of the counter ! Let me take you into the back and you can lie down on our cot !
He took her back there laid her down and covered her up ! Eight said I like you, You nice to me ! She licked his hand and rolled over and went to sleep. He went back out to the counter. A State Policeman came in. Have you seen a girl with an eight on her top ? She escaped from the institute, she may be dangerous, we are to retrieve her by any means ! Henry didn't want to get her hurt; so he said, No, I haven't seen a girl like that ! The state policeman gave him a photo of eight with Eight on her top and his card. If you see her, call my number, there may be a reward. He left.
Henry decided he would take the girl home to protect her as soon as she woke up. He got her a sweater top they sold for girls with a horse on it. when Juan, the guy for the 2nd shift came in; Henry went back and woke the girl and took her top off and put it in a bag, he put the horse t-shirt on her; then Henry took her out to his car and buckled her into the passenger seat. He took off for his house. She squealed out the window as they drove along. Faster she said ! I'm doing the speed limit ! They got home, he showed he where the bathroom was and the guest room with a bed. You can sleep there, he said.
All of a sudden, Emily ( his girlfriend ) was there And who is this Girl ? she said. It's just a girl i am taking in for a while ( she is homeless and penniless ) A likely story, said Emily ! I am going to slug you ! You have to take me to the store, she demanded ! Ok said Henry, he showed Eight how to work the TV and got her some Cartoons. He told Eight to stay here, I'll be right back ! Emily told him, If you are two-timing me, I'm going to Clobber You ! No, Henry told her It's just like I said she is homeless and penniless, I'm just taking her in for a while ! I hate you, said Emily , for lying to me ! He took her to the store; he said I have to get back soon, because I think the girl is a foreignor and doesn't know the states ! he drove Emily home; She slammed his car door and was mad at him. So he drove back home.
Back Home his mother was there ! And who is this Girl ? she said. Henry said she's just a girl I am letting stay here for a while as she is homeless. Her mother had cleaned the place up and gave eight a Bubble-bath and washed her hair. Eight said, my hair is wet ! She needs some clothes; I'll be right back with them ; his mother said ! She is nice lady, eight said, she gave me a bath ! said Eight in one of his robes. I see said Henry !
His mother returned in a short time with some clothes and what is her name ? Her name is Jane, Henry said ! My name is Eight , Eight said ! Are you going to start lying to your mother ? , the boss said ? She took eight upstairs and dressed her in undergarments and a dress. Then she came back downstairs with her. I don't want to hear of you getting this girl pregnant, unless you are married, his mother said ( in an aside ). I'm not getting her pregnant, he said I ;m just taking her in for a while ! Eight said Want to see my Bra and want to see my panties I got ? Henry told her a girl doesn't usually show her Bras and Panties to a guy ! Why not , said Eight ? It's just not done, Henry said. remember what I said, said his mother ! don't take advantage of this girl, she seems real nice ! I won't mother Henry said And you own me $20 for everything, his mother said ! I'll have to pay you Friday, when I get paid, Henry told her !
