Especially the nearly-exhaustive quotes you've assembled there! Reading those, it occurs to me that's why people find Edie Sedgwick so fascinating. My impression is that she had a brilliant mind, but was never taught to be independent. That's what made her a child of her time. That's what made her emblematic.
Way back in '83, I had a female friend who idolized Edie. I didn't get it then. But I do now. For intelligent, artistic young women, Edie's life stands up like a lightning rod. Part cautionary tale, part incandescent beacon. All American. Yes it's sad. But at the same time, I'm going to argue that she was such a survivor, that what killed her was her belief that nothing could kill her.
Ruroshen, I beg to differ, I think all those photos there were beautiful. Even the one with short-haired, spaced-out, emaciated Edie, although that may be my least favorite.
