I don't think it's an accurate claim that a baseball rivalry between two teams in the same country is greater than a soccer rivalry in a soccer continent between two countries or club teams. If baseball was our continent's sport then I could see it, but it is a mixing pot of sports over here...everywhere else soccer is almost the only sport that matters.

Yank's vs Sox is a very big rivalry but generally you gotta have two competitive teams for it to be a true rivalry. Sox didn't win for generations, but the unique history between the two teams makes up for alot of that.

In soccer rivalries you see hundreds of hoodlums get in massive brawls in and outside of stadiums, in addition to all the other petty criminal stuff fans of most sports do. I think there are more of them that take things to an extreme than in American rivalries.
