Default Hang on.

Why are some of you learning French,

while Alizee herself is busy learning English as we speak?

Aren't you afraid that if you meet her you'll be like "bonjour mes ami" and she'll be like "huh what?" and I'll be like "hello " and she'll be like "Oh hi let's go to lunch right now!" and you'll be like "Damn those french lessons!"

Huh? Have you ever thought of THAT?

Even if she's learning English, I doubt that she's forgetting French while she's at it.

I took four years of french in high school as did my husband. He's in college now and one of the courses he's taking is french. We are planning a trip to Paris in the next couple of years. Although I've heard most of them speak english, some of them appreciate the fact that you are trying to learn their language.

I'm going to be going to Germany it visit a very good German friend for three weeks in the southwest of Germany, practically on teh French border and we intend to visit Paris and camp in France. Last week I asked her between now and me going to visit which language I should spend more time learning, French or German. She thought abuot it a sec and then firmly decided on French. Reason? Essentially she said that most people in Germany know enough English for one to get by... and they don't mind too much if you try to use English with them. However, in France (and she's been to France many a time given that the house she grew up in was 10 miles walking from the border) she says if you don't at least attempt French first, you won't get very far even if the person you're talking to can speak a bit of English.

That is so true, the French can be so patient, not always but can be, if you are making an honest effort to speak and learn French, but if you just show up and don't even attempt it most will probably just keep to themselves. Sometimes it is simply because they know very little English and feel that they would be of no help anyway unless you know some French. Sometimes even Spanish can be useful because some French are familiar with it, sometimes more than English.
But if you want to learn French try these links for Rosetta Stone before they get deleted, it has about 400 hours of lessons in total according to their web page:

PS: It says demo, but it isn't.
