Bad News!
Ok - I'm bustin' COD4 the other night with a couple of my co-workers.
All of a sudden, my monitor goes blank, and my on/off switch starts blinking. Every once in a while, the fans come on - but that is the only life in my 'puter...........  My wife won't let me HAVE hers..... she's SOOOO selfish!   Anyway - just wanted to vent a bit...... Geek Squad is going to tell me how bad it is..... Ed

Ed, I seriously recommend avoiding Geek Squad at all costs (and they'll charge you all costs possible, believe you me).
Find a little ma-and-pa computer store, and take your computer in to them. Never mind the fact that they could sell you a new computer for how much Geek Squad is going to charge you, they'll fix up your current computer for a fraction of the price.

My brother is former geek squad and his girlfriend is current geek squad, so I can only reiterate what espire said. When I had laptop problems a few weeks ago, going through them would have run me about $500, compared to $125 or so with finding somebody that could actually fix the problem. Of course, I'm under warranty (and I'm assuming you're not) so it didn't matter, but just to prove a point.

I know someone who works for Geek Squad. I got a 200 dollar repair done for 0 because he is a close friend.

Thanks guys - appreciate the information - I'll check into whats availiable around here, and see if there is anyone else that can do the repairs - Geek squad already has my tower.....
It may just be that I need to get a new one....... Which will be another whole issue!  Whatever - thanks for the input! Ed

Yeah, usually just the charge for the estimate is like almost as much as the computer. You can get old refurb computers for like $150 from surpluscomputers.com or geeks.com, if money's tight. (Or check out the Goodwill, or maybe Cornell has a surplus outlet...)

Hmm, sounds like an overheating problem somewhere in there. Playing a graphics intense game without proper cooling in the system can literally cook it, and it will shut itself down completely to prevent meltdown.
That, or possibly a power supply issue, though if the fans are running, that seems unlikely. Best of luck, whatever it is!
