A deluxe edition of an essential visualretrospective and discography...

Supports at her effigy are multiplying all over the world, from limited editions collectors to disc certification, promotional support and international support.

I like this! A lot! I love reading, and an Alizée book would be an excellent addition. Once I get a bit of extra money, I will definitely be ordering it! Thanks, zefox!

Wait so does the book show the worth or rareness of each disc or poster?

Smile CAVEAT EMPTOR (Let the buyer beware)

Without regard to any particular product, I would always be extremely cautious how I BOUGHT anything supposedly authorized by Alizée or another artist I wanted to support.

Not only is it too easy to illicitly copy proprietary art to avoid paying for it, it is also all too easy to aggregate it for free, add genuine editorial value, and then sell the result without compensating the owners of the source material in any way.

If someone wants to sell me something in which Alizée and her collaborators have proprietary rights, they have to sell it through a retailer I trust to respect those rights.

This includes big stores like Virgin and Amazon and a small store like http://institubes.myshopify.com/ the retailing arm of Institubes, Alizée's current musical home. But I would NOT trust another source lacking both an intimate relationship with Alizée and a multimillion-dollar weekly business reputation to preserve.

So if someone wants to sell me something like ALIZEE L'UNIQUE REFERENTIEL, they should get the Institubes store to carry inventory.

I think the same too. I would buy something like this if it is from an official store, something that helps Alizee.

If this is a "... book, Alizée has approved and validated for a sale.", is there an official Alizée link stating her approval?

I noticed that on the book's Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gi...2076952&ref=ts , I don't recognize any of Alizée's known officiel or private identities listed as a 'follower' (or friend').

I can't comment on Alizée's personal approval of this book or not, but can vouch for it being legitimate and not a "bootleg" or anything like that. There's talk of the Referentiel appearing in regular bookstores or sites like Amazon in the future. Renaud has gotten the rights for everything used, which is why it's all merchandise scans and not other photos (those would be too expensive). True, Alizée probably sees little to no direct profit from this, but it's meant to be a guide for collectors, which I think can only be a good thing for her. Much like how this site helps Alizée without actually being official too.

Plus, the author's involved French fans in the creation since the beginning, with it actually starting out as a fan-site. There's been some comparison to the Wikipedia book on amazon which is also technically "authorized" since it uses free content, but I think the difference is that's a cheap cash-in while this is something made with care and attention by fans, for fans. Not to sound like I'm plugging it too much or encouraging anyone uncomfortable to buy it (that's totally understandable!), but I actually think it's pretty cool!

Let me raise a related issue, without meaning to offend any person of good will. If you use online "price engines" to compare online retail offers of the IDENTICAL (same UPC) physical product by various firms, you will observe they do not always charge the same price.

Someone will always ask, how can this be? Is it simply because people are ignorant of all the alternatives, including the low-price champion? Doesn't it always make sense to award the sale to the lowest bidder?

No, it does not! What about shipping and handling? Is this a sales contract or a delivery contract, i.e. who bears the risk and delay of mishap? What are the charges for delivery? What is the return policy and tenure? Is there a re-stocking fee? Can you bundle the purchase of the item in question with other things you want or need now, and maybe save on billing and shipping costs? Will the item need upkeep like replacement parts, or even repairs, and what sort of help might a retailer or maker warranty provide? And yes, also, what is the chance that the item is a forgery, perhaps with security (e.g. malware), safety or medical fallout for the end-user which the genuine item does not present?

One could also raise my original posting question about whether fraud or theft was involved in creating the physical item one receives. Not only can one copy and reproduce digital files illicitly, one can also record them on media held in a forged proprietary container which supposedly authenticates the legitimacy of the contents. Which retailer does a more scrupulous job of acquiring inventory? (Yes, I know, obviously some consumers simply do not care.)

Alizée is taking part in the sale of UEdS stuff through multiple channels. The deluxe package was handled by Opendisc®. Institubes is selling a limited-edition picture vinyl disk. Giant retailers like Virgin and Amazon sell pedestrian disks and file downloads.

An interesting Gedanken experiment is this: What if one or more of these well-known purveyors ALSO agreed to sell the Fan-Made Alizée Reference Book at issue? How much more (if anything) could they charge for this item? Would some charge less because their order fulfillment process is so much more professional and efficient than the manufacturer's retailing arm? Indeed, a manufacturer often does better by outsourcing at least some part of the selling-chain process, because it lets him concentrates on his "core competency."

I suppose this is all just hypothetical, because the sales volume likely at issue falls far short of what it takes to justify creation of a new SKU.

All I know is that I can swear by STASS (Scruffy's Trans-Atlantic Signature Service.)
