Oh boy....
Dude, I've read "Lolita" many, many, many, (did I mention many?) many times.
In the sense of literature... This is one of the best books I've ever read. The words that Nabokov uses and how he illustrates thoughts and ideas that you nor I would never think... it's incredible. I don't know you that well personally, thus I don't know how mature you are. I honestly don't think you have to be "mature" to read this book (the most obscene mention of Humbert Humbert having sex with Lolita is a single sentence of "that morning I had made love to her three times") as you have to be old enough to understand pedophilia and to understand that this novel is not pornographic. If I may ask, what grade are you in? At my old school I was friends with a few English and Literature Studies teachers and they were all very impressed with me even attempting to read Lolita and even more so with my understanding of it (I wrote a large essay on it, got an A+)... so school wise this is a great book to read and life-wise this is a very important novel (in my mind) that any intelligent person should read and be familiar with. * You and I are of similar ages. I know what "modern age" teenagers think of 'scholarly pursuits' (Lolita) and I know their lack of understanding of subjects such as pedophilia. This is a great book, but I wouldn't recommend you showing off to your friends that you are reading Lolita (unless of course, you hang out with very intelligent friends). -- As for the films, I have not seen the original '62 Kubrick film of Lolita but as I've heard from a few highly film-savvy friends and such that in comparison to the '99 remake that the '62 isn't very good (not to say that you shouldn't watch it, I'm saying I probably won't). I believe that the actor's portrayal of their characters are much more true/accurate to the novel (I felt Langella's calm and cool interpretation of Quilty was much truer than I implore you to read the novel first before watching the film(s). Even though I find the '99 Lolita (I hold it in the same regard in cinema as I do Lolita in literature) an outstanding film, it still deviates from the novel it's based on (as does any book-based movie).
