What's with Mylene?
Okay, I have to say... Alizee's making me impatient, so I've looked into Mylene. She's got a nice voice, and four amazing songs I like.
I like (in order of quality to me): C'est une belle journée Desenchantée Sans Contrefaçon Crier La Vie and even Fu*k Them All (but not the title) The thing is, I can't help feeling that I'm favoring a really bad role model. lol. I mean, it looks like all mylene wants to do is undress in every video, and curse around like she owns the place, and she seems way freaky, although it may be kinda cute in the process. So tell me.. Is she generally a bad person? lol Does she treat her fans nice and generally the people around which she's inhabited? Just can't figure this girl out!!! |

Amelie would be the one to truly know, but I think I have some understanding of it. Mylène Farmer's success and popularity are based on a number of things:
1) Mylène's songwriting and singing 2) Laurent Boutonnat's composing 3) Mylène's image of being dark and mysterious There's something very tempting about a person with the kind of image and aura that Mylène has, and she plays on it extremely well. Her experience with such a thing is the main reason that Moi Lolita was such a success.

I have to agree 100%. Thoughts are my favorite things about her. Gorgeous voice but her singing and song wringing just top it all off in my mind.

There's one other factor behind Mylène's success, and it's there for Alizée as well. It's not so easily defined, but it's crucial. I'm talking about the kind of rapport with a crowd that lets her build incredible levels of excitement.
Her style is very different from Alizée's, more remote, less approachable, less friendly, but it still works. It works incredibly well. She has the magic touch. Here's a pretty good example, the performance of Désenchantée from the Millennium Tour.

That is pretty nice in my book. There is still a handfull of songs by her that I have not heard yet, I'm slowly discovering her, but the songs you listed are also my favorites. C'est une belle journee is amazing. |

Of course there's also the pure spectacle of her concerts, like the intro to the Mylenium Tour:

And if you think that's good, try being there. The video I took from my perspective: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...24541056246335) Anyway MesGourmandises, it seems your hung up over certain things about Mylene that you really shouldn't be. Yeah she's pretty free with her body for instance, but it's always for the sake of art, not vulgarity. And that's not all there is to her. There isn't a drop of nudity in any of the clips for the songs you mentioned, for example. She's a complex woman. Type cast her with certain aspects and you miss the big picture. |

Trumped! TRUMPED I SAY! I've NEVER seen a performance. Anything else that I've seen has been all shrink wrapped, disposable twaddle. THAT just BLEW ME AWAY. I don't have one bloody disc of Mylene's but its obvious that i'm going to have to. Is she still producing her own music? Is she still doing concerts? Both the entrance and exit were ATAVISTIC!! PRIMAL!! Maybe I'm reacting to the "mob" feeling, but I have a feeling that the "images" that this "ARTIST" are tapping are very well thought out! They go RIGHT to the hind brain, and almost no stopping along the way..... During the entrance, when the 6 guys walked (SLOW MARCH) up to the tube, I felt goose bumps. When they raised it up and slow marched across the bridge.... wow......... Exit - That was sublime......... no other word for it. And you were there? I salute you sir! Ed

I went through a similar "process" when I first discovered Mylene... like I've said before, it was all a coincidence (through Alizee's music!). But I was totally hooked when I watched the AQLO opening!!!
I agree with everything you said... the whole idea/concept behind the concert is just awesome... from another world!! It shows that a lot of thought and work went into it.... it's like nothing I've seen, before or after...... |
