1) The woman in that article was Italian. Only her husband is French.

2) American women are the same way. It's not peculiar to the French.

Carla Bruni is indeed the Italian wife of the president of France, but she was raised in France and since the article says "Female sexual emancipation has been a hot topic in France ever since President Nicolas Sarkozy met Carla Bruni, the Italian model and singer," her inclusion in the article is timely and more relevant than not, having at least grown up with French culture. Got it. It's kind of a personal revelation about Sarkozy that he could go for such a strong-minded babe. I think I like him a little better for that.

Still not so sure about his politics, of course. Not that it matters, I can't vote in French elections anyway.

Eh, OK. But in all seriousness, human sexual feelings are pretty much biologically hardwired and all that culture manages to do is marginally shift them, and sometimes to conceal. Women have always found ways to let men they wanted know they wanted them. I really don't think this is anything new, except maybe that it's more out in the open now than it once was.

That makes sense and I can totally agree with that. I just wasn't going to use any personal examples is all.

Regardless, there are huge cultural differences between Europe and the US regarding sexuality, regardless of the statistics.

I think that's a lot less true than it once was, and to the extent it's still true it's because the U.S. has more evangelical Christians than Europe does, and it's a difference confined mainly to that subculture. I have certainly not found American women to be sexually passive.
