With Corsica being an Island and having a relatively small population of 320K residents it wouldn't be that hard to kick the Mafia off the Island.
The problem is the authorities don't have the intestinal fortitude to come down as hard as they can on organized crime. They are scared of retaliations on their families so they look the other way and act like they doing something with lip service.
If the French Government brought in a 1,000 person task force from the main land made up of 150 man heavily armed assault force similar to the FBI's own HRT unit, and 850 forensic accountants they would have the Island cleaned up of the Mafia in three to five years. Just do an audit of the finances of every business on the Island and the finances of any French resident that has bought property on the Island worth over 100,000€ in the last ten years.
Remember the Chicago mobster Al Capone was taken down for not paying income taxes, never for the murders he or people around him carried out. You really think the cover businesses the Corsican mob owns that are being used to launder money through are really paying all the French taxes they owe?
The separatists are a much larger problem and are not going to be easily over come.
