In any case, clothing or not, Alizée has always seemed very different from Mylène and yes, I think to a large degree that is simply due to her actual difference of personality, though also the difference in her voice meant that she couldn't sound like Mylène. I wish Alizée had been able to pull off management and success like Mylène did, but I am also glad that she didn't just become like Mylène.
I guess liking or not liking the striptease video is entirely down to personal opinion (I don't like it, but others clearly do). And yes, Appelle Mon Numéro is a brilliant recent example of her being sexy without removing any clothes at all (). One thing's for sure, Alizée has a completely different personality to Mylène, so I don't think there's any danger of her becoming another Mylène. However, I don't think we'd be able to say the same if the split between the two never happened, so that's one of the main reasons why I'm glad it did. It allowed Alizée to be her own person and not always be controlled by/associated with Mylène (and not be branded as a 'mini-Mylène').

Not afraid to back down?
I can see where you're coming from there, but I think it's very specific aspects of Mylène. The album UEDS and the music video for Les Collines both have a sort of Mylène-esque feel to them as a result of the grim subject matter, adult connotations and the atmospheric, almost haunting music video. However, I think that's just a coincidence that resulted from the material Alizée's working with at the moment, not because she's becoming like Mylène. And yes, Alizée can sing some pretty high notes (bits of Les Collines, ACF and that duet with Alain Chamfort) but Mylène on the whole sings much higher and doesn't often venture into low notes, while Alizée does this quite frequently (Mes Fantômes). While we're on the subject, the recent live single Paradis Inanimé is sung very low for Mylène and stands out from the rest of the album because of it. I also like the rock.

But anyway, even if aspects of Alizée's recent artistic outputs resemble aspects of Mylène's, sounding and looking like somebody is very different from becoming somebody (artistically). So I think that after the split, there's no risk that Alizée's evolving into another Mylène, she's just being herself, and if that's slightly Mylène-ish at times, then fine by me.

Edit:

Wow I didn't realise how long and rambling that had become until I posted it! Kudos to anyone who reads it all.
